Chapter 37 Stranded on an Isolated Island

They had only been paddling for a short while when Feng Ye looked at A-Can with a puzzled expression: "Did you hear anything?"

"A sound? No." Ah-Can shook his head.

"I think I just heard someone scream for help?"

Feng Ye frowned, stopped rowing, and listened carefully.

"Brother Ye, are you sure you didn't mishear me? How come I..."

Before Ah-Can could finish his sentence, Feng Ye suddenly said, "No, someone is really calling for help."

As he spoke, he turned his head to look in the direction of the sound, his eyes carefully searching the sea surface.

He was certain he had just heard cries for help, but the voice was so faint that it was almost imperceptible and easy to miss if one wasn't listening carefully.

"real?"

Ah-Can was shocked and followed Feng Ye's gaze, listening intently.

Sure enough, a faint cry for help could be heard amidst the sound of the waves.

"They're not on the sea, so where could they be?"

Ah-chan scratched his head.

The sea was completely visible, and as far as the eye could see, there wasn't a single piece of wood to be seen except for the seawater.

"That isolated island just now!"

A flash of insight struck Feng Ye, and his gaze turned to the distant, isolated island.

“There it is.”

Ah-chan was the first to notice, pointing with his finger.

Upon hearing this, Feng Ye immediately focused his gaze on the spot the man was pointing to.

Sure enough, there was a figure on the cliff top of the isolated island, waving something white in their direction and shouting for help.

Fortunately, the weather was nice today, and the waves were small, which allowed the sound to travel so far.

How did he get up there?

Ah-Can was a little dumbfounded.

"Never mind that for now, let's go over and take a look first, and help if we can."

Without hesitation, Feng Ye turned the boat around again and rowed towards the isolated island.

The small wooden boat swayed and moved forward, the cries for help grew clearer, and gradually it became clear that what was being waved was a white garment.

As the boat drew nearer, Feng Ye recognized the man on the cliff top as Chen Fusheng. One of the three boats that had gone to sea a couple of days ago and had not returned was Chen Fusheng's.

Chen Fusheng's fishing boat was operated by a husband-and-wife team. Two days ago, the couple went out to sea and disappeared without a trace. Everyone agreed that the boat had been destroyed and they had all perished. Their family had accepted this cruel reality and was already making funeral preparations.

To my utter surprise, I saw him again on this deserted island. I have to say I was incredibly lucky.

Although Chen Fusheng was unshaven and looked haggard and tired, he was still alive.

But why is he the only one here? Where is his wife?

"Uncle Fusheng, what are you doing here?"

Feng Ye steered the boat to a distance of more than ten meters from the cliff, looked up and asked loudly.

"Ah Ye, my wife has a fever, please help me, please help me, okay?..."

Chen Fusheng gave irrelevant answers and kept crying and pleading.

"I'll definitely help you, but how am I supposed to get up such a steep slope?"

“You can come up from the east side.”

Chen Fusheng was overjoyed and pointed behind him.

"Wait here, I'll row the boat over right away."

When Feng Ye rowed the boat around the island to the east, he discovered that the island was generally lower in the east and higher in the west. The western side was the cliff they had seen, while the eastern side was made up of reefs of various sizes that stretched all the way into the sea.

They came by boat from the west, and since they didn't go around the island, they could only see the cliff face.

A twelve-meter trawler is stranded on the rocks that protrude from the water.

Clearly, this is Chen Fusheng's fishing boat.

"Here, here..."

Chen Fusheng stood on a rock, waving his hands and shouting.

Feng Ye looked over and saw that it was indeed a very good spot to moor the boat.

The boat was pulled over and moored. A rope was thrown up, and Chen Fusheng caught it and tied it to a protruding rock. Then he said impatiently, "Ah Ye, Ah Can, my wife is unconscious up there. Can you help me carry her down?"

"Where are we? Lead the way."

Upon hearing this, Feng Ye couldn't care less about asking anything else for the time being; the person was the priority.

The two jumped off the boat and followed Chen Fusheng, soon arriving at the top of the isolated island.

Chen Fusheng's wife, Li Xiuying, was lying on a makeshift stretcher, unconscious, occasionally uttering a few words in her sleep.

It's immediately obvious that the stretcher is made from bamboo poles used for boating and ropes woven from fishing nets.

Feng Ye touched his forehead; it was burning hot.

This is a high fever.

"Ah Can, help carry Auntie onto the boat. We need to hurry back to the dock to find a boat to take her to the town hospital."

Ah-Can followed suit and tried it on his forehead: "It's so hot."

"The person is delirious with fever, how could they not be scalded?"

The three carried the stretcher back the way they came.

The rocky area is full of rocks of all sizes, which are very slippery. Even walking alone requires caution, let alone carrying someone.

It took quite a while before we got back on the ship.

After untying the mooring ropes, Feng Ye picked up the oar, braced it against the reef, and pushed the boat back out, then began to row.

Chen Fusheng plopped down on the boat, his face full of gratitude, and said, "Ah Ye, Ah Can, thank you, thank you both."

"Uncle Fusheng, what happened? How did your boat get stranded?"

Ah-Can looked at Chen Fusheng with a curious expression.

Feng Ye was also quite curious. Fishermen who drift on the sea should know the location of isolated islands and reefs in the fishing areas like the back of their hand. Even if the waves are big, they should be able to keep their way. How did they end up stranded on an isolated island?

"I regret it so much. I shouldn't have gone out to sea. How could I have been so greedy and refused to listen to advice? I almost lost my wife and my life..."

Chen Fusheng slapped himself twice in frustration and slowly recounted his ordeal.

It turns out that Mr. and Mrs. Chen Fusheng were also envious. Seeing that they could find such a large catch on the beach, they thought there must be even more in the sea, so they mustered up their courage and set sail.

Although the broadcast warned of abnormal weather and the possibility of another typhoon, he didn't take it seriously at all, thinking it was impossible.

At first, things were fine, and the waves were still within a manageable range. But not long after the trawl net was lowered, Chen Fusheng noticed that the waves were getting bigger and bigger. Only then did he realize that what the broadcast said might be true.

Although it was a pity to have made a wasted trip, he did not try to be brave. He prioritized his own safety, quickly hauled in the trawl net, and set sail back.

However, unforeseen events can happen at any time, and misfortune can strike at any moment.

Halfway through the fishing boat's journey, something terrifying happened to Chen Fusheng.

The machine suddenly broke down, and the fishing boat lost power, leaving it adrift with the current.

With such strong winds and waves, the consequences are predictable.

But there was nothing he could do. Even if he did know how to repair machines, he wouldn't be able to do it under such violent shaking.

The couple could only hold each other and pray in the driver's seat, or rather, wait to die.

Fortunately, the fishing boat was not capsized by the waves, but was instead pushed to an isolated island.

Fearing that the fishing boat would be swept back into the sea by the waves, the couple quickly jumped off the boat when the waves reversed and ran to the top of the island.

She stayed there for two days. During that time, Li Xiuying caught a cold from being caught in the rain. Because she had no medicine, her condition worsened and she eventually fell into a coma.
