Chapter 388 Fortune Telling

Song Guomin took a holiday two days before Lunar New Year's Eve.

He prepared for the New Year well in advance this year, planning to return to Heping Lane on New Year's Eve.

Liu Aimei hasn't come back since that day. The two children asked him what their mother came to do at their house that day.

Song Guomin thought it was a matter between adults and told the two children not to get involved.

In the year or two since his surgery, Song Guomin has been consistently getting check-ups and taking his medication on time every day. His health has improved a lot, and he looks even better than when he first came to this town.

On the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, Song Guomin took his two children back to their house in the city.

Yan Yan and Lele were both dressed in new clothes, and the house was clean and tidy.

After Liu Aimei's story was discussed, the neighbors felt sorry for the two children. They had lost their mother at such a young age. When Yan Yan and Lele were playing downstairs, the neighbors gave the siblings a lot of food.

On New Year's Eve.

In the morning, Song Guomin carried New Year's goods, and Yan Yan held her younger brother's hand. The three of them went to Heping Lane together.

Peace Lane was filled with joy and festive decorations.

Couplets and the character "福" (fortune/blessing) were pasted on the outside of the Song family's door.

Grandpa Song's booming voice came from under the door, "Big Dog, stew the ribs a little longer!"

Grandma Song and Qian Yu'an were making dumplings in the main room. The twins had already learned to walk. Song Muchuan started talking earlier than Song Zhiyin. The older brother could accurately call out "Grandpa," "Grandma," "Dad," and "Mom," while the younger sister would babble and use sign language. Only Qian Yu'an could understand her.

It was bustling with activity inside.

Song Guomin's hands felt like they weighed a ton, and he couldn't lift them. Yan Yan asked him, "Dad, shall we go in?"

With a bitter expression, Song Guomin put down the New Year's goods and turned to leave with his two children.

When Chen Zhou came out of her house, she saw the backs of Song Guomin and the other two. She didn't recognize them, but she did see gift boxes of fruit outside the Song family's house.

Chen Zhou knocked on the Song family's door.

Xu Guiying opened the door, saw Chen Zhou, and invited her in to sit down.

Chen Zhou smiled and said, "Happy New Year, Grandpa and Grandma, Uncle Song and Aunt Xu, Second Brother and Second Sister-in-law, Rongrong!"

Happy New Year! Happy New Year!

Everyone looked out with smiles on their faces.

Chen Zhou pointed to the door, "Aunt Xu, someone dropped this off here. I just saw someone leading two children out, I don't know if they were the ones who dropped it off."

Xu Guiying stared at the things on the ground, then suddenly smiled, "Hey, maybe so. Come in, have lunch at home."

Chen Zhou touched his nose, his eyes darting around, "I have something to do later."

Xu Guiying didn't expose her.

Just then, Song Rongrong came out, glanced at the New Year's goods on the ground, picked them up and looked at them.

She poked her head out and glanced around the alley.

There wasn't a soul in sight.

Song Rongrong carried the New Year's goods inside, exchanged a glance with her grandparents, father, and second brother, shrugged, and put the things in the corner.

Song Guomin's arrival did not seem to cause any waves in the Song family.

Xu Guiying continued to direct the dumpling-making, and no one mentioned anything else. She asked Song Yangmin to invite Song Yun's family over to eat dumplings later.

"Okay."

After leaving the Song family, Chen Zhou went to find Song Jianmin.

Only Song Jianmin was at home; Song Anmin had gone out early in the morning.

Chen Zhou recounted his encounter with his older brother, and before he could finish speaking, Song Jianmin frowned deeply. "You mean the things are right by the door?"

Same as last year?

Chen Zhou nodded: "Anyway, Uncle Song and Aunt Xu don't know about this."

Song Jianmin wanted to say something but didn't know how to start. "Let's not talk about him anymore. Let's go out and buy some things."

Song Jianmin and Chen Zhou plan to get married after graduating from university this year. They still need to buy furniture to furnish the house, so they can buy a little bit each month to reduce the financial burden.

As the two passed by the Song family's house, Song Yangmin happened to open the door and come out.

Song Yangmin exclaimed, "Isn't this the fifth brother!"

Chen Zhou quickly looked into the Song family's house.

Xu Guiying and the others were smiling at her.

Chen Zhou pretended to be nonchalant and teased Song Zhiyin, who was being led by Song Yangmin.

Song Zhiyin recognized Song Jianmin, "Five, five, five crispy!"

Song Jianmin picked up his little niece and gave her a little tumble, saying, "Fifth Uncle will buy you candy later."

Song Zhiyin didn't understand, and just chuckled.

"Second brother, where are you going?"

"Third Aunt's house." Song Yangmin looked the fifth son up and down. "Where are you going?"

"Buy some New Year's goods."

Song Jianmin pulled Chen Zhou outside, and Chen Zhou couldn't help but ask curiously, "Is your older brother really not coming home?"

According to Chen Zhou's observation, the relationship between the Song brothers, Song Anmin and Song Jianmin, and their family has improved considerably. They can go home once every three or four months, but they don't have much of a chance to eat there; they just stay for a while and then leave.

Song Jianmin shook his head: "I don't know either, but the chances of him going home are much lower than for me and my third brother."

It was still snowing outside. The two of them went to the market hand in hand and bought couplets, door gods and other things. They also went to the furniture market on the way.

Chen Zhou saved a lot of money this year, mainly from the scholarships from the school and the money he had saved from part-time jobs. In total, he had more than a thousand yuan.

Chen Zhou thought that if he was going to buy large pieces of furniture, he should buy high-quality ones that were durable, good-looking, and long-lasting. However, they were all expensive. After asking about the prices, Chen Zhou decided to come back later.

The two returned home before noon and had a simple lunch at Chen Zhou's house.

This year is different from last year. Song Anmin is bringing Wang Ya back tonight. If nothing unexpected happens, Uncle will still go to the Song family for dinner tonight, so the four of them will eat together.

Wang Ya didn't go to work today; Song Anmin dragged her ice skating early in the morning. No one at home gave her a friendly look, and Wang Ya didn't care. She didn't want to go home; she'd rather stay at the police station on duty or be with Song Anmin.
