Xia Xi thought she was hallucinating and fluttered her eyelashes to make sure she was seeing things. She exited the interface for editing the notes, and a small window popped up - Save this edit?
Of course, choose not to save.
She wanted to retract her previous comment. Xu Yanfeng wasn't heartless at all. He would ask if she had gotten home. After thinking about it, she felt a little unwilling and changed the note to call him "a person who says one thing and means another."
Xia Xi smiled at the words and replied, "I got off the high-speed train and am on my way home. I'll be there soon. How about you? Have you finished your exams?"
The person who says one thing and means another: “Yeah.”
The light turned green and the car started slowly. Xia Yue didn't ignore the sudden curl of the corners of the passenger seat's mouth and jokingly said, "Are you chatting with that boy you didn't get?"
Xia Xi typed while answering her sister's question: "Don't mention that I didn't catch him." She looked at her sister's profile and said seriously, "I am very satisfied with my current situation. Moreover, I believe that it won't be long before I can achieve my wish."
Xia Yue nodded and said "hmm". This was the Xia Xi she knew: "Your happiness is the most important thing. If you are not happy, there is no need to continue." She trusted Xia Xi's judgment, so she did not interfere too much in her private affairs.
After arriving home, Xia Xi greeted Su Jinru and her grandmother warmly. The next step was to go into the kitchen to see what delicious food was for lunch.
Su Jinru cooked a sumptuous meal herself, the staple food being the shepherd's purse dumplings that Xia Xi had mentioned several times on the phone.
Xia Xi took a photo of the uneaten dish and shared it with Xu Yanfeng: "It's time to eat! I'll treat you to a quick meal first, and then I'll treat you to the real thing after school starts."
After sending the message, she put down her phone and didn't wait for Xu Yanfeng's reply. She picked up a dumpling, dipped it in vinegar, and put it in her mouth, eating with a look of satisfaction: "This is the taste. I missed it so much that I couldn't sleep at school."
Grandma smiled and pushed the plate in front of her: "Then eat more."
Xia Xi's mouth was occupied and he couldn't speak, so he nodded several times.
"Why isn't Dad here?" Xia Xi was so busy eating that he realized belatedly that someone was missing.
Su Jinru added a few more chopsticks of food to her bowl and said, "I've been partnering with someone to set up a food processing factory lately, so I'm busy all day and can't go home. Don't worry about him. Just eat your food. He won't be back at noon."
"Open a factory? Is it reliable?" Xia Xi asked casually while picking out fish bones.
Su Jinru: "An old friend of his used to do this. He knows the ropes, so it should be possible."
Xia Xi didn't ask any more questions. After dinner, she carried her suitcase upstairs, returned to her room, took a shower, and rolled around on the bed. Her nostrils were filled with the fresh and clean smell of detergent and the fragrance of clothes dried in the sun.
She held up her cell phone to chat with Xu Yanfeng. Even if he didn't reply, she would send him more than ten messages in a row, telling him about her life in detail, so that he wouldn't lose his feelings for her after not seeing her for a long time.
Victory is just around the corner, she has to keep working hard.
*
In the first week after returning to Ganlin, Xia Xi attended a few gatherings with former high school classmates and spent the rest of the time helping out at her family's restaurant.
As the New Year approaches, the streets and alleys are decorated with lights and filled with festive joy.
With nothing to do on the weekend, Xia Xi invited Zhou Du and Liang Yuan to dinner in a small group of three. She had promised to treat them to a feast for a month, but she hadn't fulfilled her promise yet, which made her seem stingy.
Zhou Du and Liang Yuan, each one more idle than the other, readily agreed and made an appointment to meet at a hot pot restaurant.
At around five o'clock in the afternoon, Xia Xi packed up and drove the family car there. Snowflakes started falling on the way.
At first, it rained like grains of salt, hitting the windshield with a crackling sound, bouncing up and quickly melting into water. Gradually, it fell like willow catkins blown by the wind, piece by piece, cluster by cluster, leaving a thin layer of white.
After a while, the snow fell faster and faster, and a rustling sound could be heard.
Xia Xi looked around, found a place to pull over, and rolled down the car window. The north wind wrapped in ice and snow instantly hit her face. She squinted her eyes, took out her cell phone without fear of the cold, turned the screen sideways, and took a video of the wind and snow.
The camera is facing several emerald green osmanthus trees, and the white snowflakes falling on the leaves are particularly conspicuous.
After filming for nearly three minutes, Xia Xi pressed pause, rolled up the car window, rubbed his cold hands, blew on his palms, turned up the air conditioner in the car by two degrees, and then sent the video he had just taken to Xu Yanfeng.
She was a little excited, and the words were tinged with her emotions.
Wei Ai XYF: "It's snowing here! Is it snowing in South City?"
Xu Yanfeng was probably checking his phone, as he replied faster than ever, though his response was as concise as ever: "No."
Wei Ai XYF: "That's perfect, let me show you the snow in the dry forest."
The duplicity: "I see."
Wei Ai XFY: "What did you see?"
A person who says one thing and means another: “?”
Snow, what else could it be? Oh, and trees.
Wei Ai XYF: "Look more carefully, do you see that every snowflake says 'I love you'."
Xu Yanfeng didn't reply. Another message popped up first. It was from Zhou Du, asking her where she was.
Xia Xi was stunned for a moment, then slapped her forehead. She had actually been chatting with Xu Yanfeng in the car, forgetting that Zhou Du and Liang Yuan were still waiting for her at the hot pot restaurant. She hurriedly sent Xu Yanfeng a "bye" and drove out.
*
The decades-old hot pot restaurant was crowded and noisy. Liang Yuan pushed the menu to Xia Xi: "We've already ordered. See if there are any dishes you want to add."
Xia Xi glanced at the dishes on the menu that were checked. The three of them often ate together and knew each other's tastes very well. Two-thirds of the dishes that were checked were her favorites.
