Chapter 135 Wrong Number

Xia Xi and Liang Yuan came out of the bathroom one after the other and walked towards the dining table. Xia Xi shook the water stains on her hands and turned to Liang Yuan and said, "I have to tell the front desk about this when we check out later. The floor in that bathroom was too slippery. I almost fell."

Liang Yuan nodded vigorously: "Damn! I thought I was the only one who almost fell!"

"Yeah, that floor is really unreasonable." Xia Xi stood beside the booth, opened her bag, took out a pack of tissues with two fingers, took out one and handed it to Liang Yuan, and took one to wipe her hands.

Zhou Du raised his chin, pointed at the phone on the table, and said to Xia Xi: "Someone just called you. You were not here, so I answered it for you."

"What did you say?" Xia Xi didn't stop wiping his hands, subconsciously thinking that it was someone from his family calling.

Zhou Du shrugged, looking puzzled. "Before I could even ask him what he wanted, he hung up the phone."

"A sales call?"

"No, it's a WeChat voice call. The note is 'a person who says one thing but means another.'" Zhou Du said the name and couldn't help but laugh. "From the sound of his voice, it's a boy. Is he your college classmate?"

Xia Xi was stunned, twisted his neck stiffly, and asked in disbelief: "Who are you talking about?"

Zhou Du didn't know why she reacted so strongly. He was stunned for a moment and repeated what he had just said, "Didn't I tell you? This is a voice call from someone who says one thing and means another." He muttered, "How could someone come up with such a stupid nickname?"

Xia Xi felt like an arrow hit his chest.

This was the note she made for Xu Yanfeng, which she made before dinner.

Wait, Xu Yanfeng called her? !

Xia Xi crumpled up the tissue she had used to wipe her hands and threw it on the table. She picked up her phone and looked through the chat history. Zhou Du had not lied to her. Xu Yanfeng had indeed called her a few minutes ago, and the call lasted only a little over a minute.

"I must remember to bring my cell phone next time I go to the bathroom!" Xia Xi said as she called back, feeling very regretful. This was the first time Xu Yanfeng took the initiative to call her, but she missed it.

She deserves to die.

However, the ringing continued for a long time and no one answered the phone.

It was just a few minutes difference, was he busy?

Xia Xi didn't believe it and continued to dial.

The result was the same, no one answered.

Zhou Du saw Xia Xi with a frown on his face, biting his fingernails, looking worried and frustrated. He was really confused. "Who is this person?"

"Stupid as a pig." Liang Yuan pointed at him from a distance. "Do you even need to ask? Of course he's our Xixi's sweetheart. You can't even tell that. Tell me, do you have a pig's brain?"

"You're so brave, try to curse again."

"You're just an idiot. Am I wrong?" Liang Yuan tilted his head, a provocative expression on his face. "Who is it? I got a 34 on my high school math test, and then I secretly used a red pen to change it to an 84."

Zhou Du got so angry that he picked up the watermelon peel on the table and threw it at her.

Liang Yuan pulled Xia Xi over and hid behind her shoulder.

After some laughter and banter, the three of them left the hot pot restaurant. Zhou Du drove back. The road was covered in a thick layer of snow, and the wheels creaked as they rolled over it, leaving behind two deep ruts.

Xia Xi had called Xu Yanfeng several times, but no one answered.

Seeing her persistence, Liang Yuan patted her shoulder and said comfortingly, "Maybe he's busy with something else and his phone is not with him. He will call you back when he sees it."

Xia Xi felt something was wrong. She looked at the driver and asked, "Zhou Du, tell me again what he said at that time."

Zhou Du thought she was making a fuss out of nothing. Was it necessary to be so nervous just because she didn't answer the phone?

Even though he thought so, he still honestly replayed the scene for her: "I answered the phone very politely and asked, 'Hello, who are you?' He asked if Xia Xi wasn't here. I said, 'You went to the bathroom, tell me if you have anything,' and then he hung up. I swear, that's all he said, nothing else."

*

Xia Xi watched two episodes of variety shows. As time approached midnight, she turned off her tablet, picked up the phone beside her pillow, and hid in the quilt to send a message to Xu Yanfeng.

The cold wind was howling outside the window, and a dim desk lamp was on in the room. Xia Xi pressed her face against the pillow, glancing at her phone from time to time, still waiting for Xu Yanfeng's reply, as if she would not go to bed if he didn't reply to her message today.

What time is it now? It’s impossible that he hasn’t looked at his phone since dinner time, right?

Xia Xi clutched her phone tightly in her fingers. Slowly, sleepiness set in, her eyelids half-closed, as if she would fall asleep in the next second. She used a strong will to keep her eyes closed for a moment, then suddenly opened them again.

Just when she was about to give up, her cell phone vibrated.

She opened her eyes wide and hurriedly checked the message, but was greatly disappointed. It was not a reply from Xu Yanfeng, but an irrelevant news pushed by the browser, that a certain celebrity had announced his relationship.

It has nothing to do with her.

She only cared about when her relationship with Xu Yanfeng would begin.

Xia Xi herself didn't know what time she finally fell asleep. She had forgotten to turn off the desk lamp, which had been on all night. The next morning at eight o'clock, Xia Xi woke up and the first thing she did was check her phone.

Apart from the few messages she sent, the chat interface did not show the reply she expected.

Xia Xi leaned against the head of the bed, pulled the quilt up to cover her chest, and called Xu Yanfeng.

She secretly swore that if he didn't answer her call again, she would buy a ticket and go to South City!

She didn't know if her curse had worked, but at the moment when the voice in her heart fell, the phone was answered, and an unreal voice came from the receiver, hoarse and low, as if it had been walking alone in the snow for a long time.
