Chapter 146 The Kiss Failed

The good dinner party was disrupted and several people were not full. Chen Mian, who has always been the leader of the lively atmosphere group, took a step forward and suggested finding a place to start the party again.

After saying that, he waited for Xu Yanfeng to express his opinion.

Xia Xi suddenly turned around and glared at Chen Mian. Couldn't he think about food later? She was discussing "life events" with Xu Yanfeng.

Chen Mian received a glare and scratched his head in confusion, not knowing how he had offended this schoolmate.

Xu Yanfeng nodded and accepted Chen Mian's proposal.

He came by car, but there wasn't enough space for so many people. Chen Mian was in charge of the arrangements: "Ladies first, let them take your car, and we men can just take a taxi."

Xu Yanfeng drove the car out.

Zhao Lei and the others were not familiar with him, so they didn't dare to act on their own and looked at Xia Xi.

"It's okay, get in the car, it's still early." Xia Xi calmly opened the passenger door.

The rest of the people stopped being shy and sat in the back seat one after another.

Wu Qinglu felt something on the seat and muttered subconsciously, "What is this?"

She held it up to her eyes and examined it carefully under the streetlight outside the car window, but for a long time she couldn't make out what it was. Zhao Lei took a look and laughed at her stupidity: "Isn't this just dried rose petals? Flowers turn this color after being left for a long time."

Upon hearing this, Xia Xi instinctively turned his head back and stared at the thing at Wu Qinglu's fingertips for a while. Then, his gaze shifted to Xu Yanfeng's face and said in words that only the two of them could understand, "Didn't you say you left it at the club? How did it end up in the car?"

Xu Yanfeng was speechless, as if he had not expected such a mistake to happen.

On New Year's Eve, he did put the flowers in the back seat of his car and took it back home. He didn't use the back seat for more than ten days, so he didn't notice the left rose petals.

There was a hint of heat on his face. Xu Yanfeng calmly lowered the car window a little. The cool breeze blew in from the narrow gap, which was only a finger's width, dispelling the heat on his face.

The car stopped at a red light. He put one hand on the steering wheel and raised the other hand, with his elbow resting on the window sill, his chin supported by his well-proportioned fingers, and his head slightly tilted to look at the street scene outside the window.

Xia Xi looked at the boy who was holding the back of his head towards her, raised her eyebrows, and smiled with a bit of pride. He really lived up to the WeChat note she changed for him: a person who said one thing and meant another.

Ten minutes later, they arrived at the restaurant and Xu Yanfeng booked a private room.

The people from the two dormitories had met each other before, but they were not very familiar with each other. After a meal, they became much closer.

Xia Xi never found an opportunity to chat with Xu Yanfeng alone. After dinner, Xu Yanfeng sent them back to school. The car drove into the campus and slowly stopped outside the fence gate of the girls' dormitory.

Zhao Lei and the others were very sensible. They pushed each other and got off the car first.

In an instant, Xu Yanfeng and Xia Xi were the only ones left in the car.

After waiting for a while and not seeing Xia Xi move, Xu Yanfeng finally lowered his deliberately evasive gaze to Xia Xi's face. She was smiling and at ease. He said calmly, "You're not getting out of the car?"

Xia Xi: "It's been a holiday since we last met. I want to see you more."

Sweet words come easily to him.

Xu Yanfeng was stunned for a moment and corrected her: "Not a single holiday."

"Oh, you still remember we met on New Year's Eve? I thought you had forgotten it long ago." Xia Xi brought up the past, "You still owe me two questions. One is that I think you like me, but you didn't tell me how I feel, right? And the other one is, you clearly took the roses, why did you lie to me? You made me sad."

"Are you sad?" Xu Yanfeng asked back.

"What's wrong? Is it strange that I'm sad? I'm a human being too, okay? It's common for people not to feel sad."

"As a human being, you should know that not every problem in the world has an answer."

“…”

Xia Xi couldn't win over him when it came to big ideas; he was a master of sophistry. She stared at his distinct jawline, an impulse running through her mind. She unbuckled the seatbelt that bound her body with one hand and leaned over.

She wanted to steal a kiss on his cheek, but Xu Yanfeng reacted quickly, reaching out and pushing her face away, veins throbbing on his forehead: "What are you doing?"

The sneak attack failed, Xia Xi sat back in frustration, opened the car door and got out, thought for a moment, then opened the door again, bent over and shouted at the people inside: "Let's compete in patience, I have plenty, humph!"

She slammed the door again, hooked her bag with her fingers, and walked into the gate with her head held high.

Xu Yanfeng's straight back relaxed as he leaned back in the chair. The moment she leaned in, a sweet fragrance that didn't belong in the car reached his nose. It was faint, but enough to overwhelm the other scents, easily bringing back a dream he didn't want to recall.

Xu Yanfeng rubbed his eyebrows, turned the car around and drove out of the school gate.

He was not staying on campus tonight, as he was sure that Chen Mian and the others would cause a commotion and question him. He was annoyed just thinking about it, so he simply drove to an off-campus apartment and stayed there.

The row of brightly lit female dormitories was left behind the car, getting farther and farther away.

Xia Xi's footsteps echoed in the stairwell. Soon, she returned to the dormitory. Before she could put down her bag, she was surrounded by three people. They asked her to tell the truth about what she and Xu Yanfeng had done in the car.

Finding pajamas from the closet, Xia Xi shrugged and summed it up in four words: "The stolen kiss failed."

Zhao Lei's eyes widened: "Who kissed who secretly?"

Xia Xi pursed her lips and smiled dryly. Isn't the answer to this question obvious?

Wang Qiuyu: "Stupid, of course Xixi failed in her attempt to kiss Senior."

Xia Xi didn't want to talk, so he gave her a thumbs up to show that she was right, and then went to the bathroom to take a shower.

*

March 25th is Xia Xi’s birthday, and she will be 21 years old after that.

Several days in advance, Liang Yuan and Zhou Du asked her how she wanted to spend the day.

It was Wednesday, and there were so many professional classes that Xia Xi decided to just have a meal to celebrate, nothing else.
