Chapter 205 Don’t You Miss Me?

Xia Xi had just bitten the second candy she had peeled into her teeth when she heard the words. She froze for a moment, following Zhou Du's gaze and twisting her neck to look back. Like Zhou Du, she initially suspected she was seeing things, then blinked a few times before finally confirming it was Xu Yanfeng.

The setting sun faded at this moment, as if someone had flipped a switch, and the sky suddenly darkened. Xu Yanfeng's face was lost in the dim light, and could not be seen clearly.

Zhou Du took a hand out of his pocket, touched the tip of his nose with the knuckles of his index finger, and said to Xia Xi, "Looks like we don't have time tonight. We'll get together again next time. Let's go."

He waved his hand, raised his eyebrows, and finally looked at Xu Yanfeng. He slowly walked away from another road, in the opposite direction of Xu Yanfeng.

After the initial surprise, Xia Xi recovered and walked across the stone path to Xu Yanfeng. Her eyes were filled with surprise. She took his hand, which felt slightly cool. "Aren't you very busy? How do you have time to come here?"

They spoke on the phone last night, and she hadn't told him her travel information yet. During the conversation, he mentioned that he would be meeting a partner from Switzerland this afternoon and might have some social engagements in the evening, so he couldn't say when he would be busy.

When he asked her which high-speed train she took, and whether he could spare the time to pick her up, she told him to focus on his own affairs and not to worry about her. She had traveled back and forth between Nancheng and Ganlin many times and could get to school smoothly with her eyes closed.

Xu Yanfeng tightened his fingers and held her hand. His dark eyes drooped, and he was a little depressed. Even his voice was as deep as a sponge soaked in water: "My dad will take care of the social activities."

Xu Guanshan’s personal appearance was sincere enough. It didn’t matter whether he was there or not, so he found an excuse, turned down the dinner, and came to the school to find her.

He seldom walked on this path, for it was lined with fir trees, whose branches grew in all directions, making the path narrower and narrower. When he walked through it, the sharp, thorn-like branches would brush against his body.

Perhaps it was destined that he took this road today and ran into Xia Xi and Zhou Du.

Zhou Du touched her hair so intimately that it made him jealous.

After not seeing each other for a holiday, Xia Xi missed him very much. Her longing was about to burst out from her heart, which was reflected in the star-like light in her eyes and the corners of her lips raised high. The hand that was held by him soon began to sweat, and the other hand grabbed his clothes at the waist, waiting for him to hold her in his arms.

But he seemed very calm and subdued.

Xia Xi looked up at him for a long time, and couldn't help but wonder: "Is work not going well?"

She didn't think of jealousy at all. Subconsciously, she felt it wasn't necessary because she had previously explained their relationship. Xu Yanfeng was too perceptive and rational not to understand. More importantly, for someone as aloof and unworldly as him, being jealous once was a rare occurrence; he wouldn't be jealous of the same person over and over again.

She doesn't understand that no matter how powerful a person is, once he is trapped in the vortex of destined love, he will not have much rationality left.

Xu Yanfeng's lips moved slightly, and his voice was low: "No."

Xia Xi pulled out her hand, which was sweating from being held by him, and put both hands on his shoulders, then around the back of his neck. She tiptoed forward and took a step forward, touching the tip of his shoe, with her body pressed tightly against his.

Despite the cold weather, her cheeks flushed with heat: "Don't you miss me?"

School starts today, so no one will come here. The tall fir trees act as a natural barrier, hiding the two figures inside, forming a world of their own. In this world, there are only the two of them, and it is so quiet.

Xu Yanfeng slowly exhaled his depressed breath, his voice still a little low, and he seemed to be lacking energy: "Why do you ask?"

"You don't even hug me." Xia Xi said softly, "You don't even kiss me."

Xu Yanfeng raised a hand and placed it on her lower back: "Is there anything else? Let me take you to dinner."

He was really good at changing the subject. Xia Xi was dissatisfied with his reaction, her brows furrowed slightly, and she kissed him on the lips without saying anything. She had said it so bluntly, could he not follow the reference answer and hug her tightly first, then kiss her.

He was just fine. He just said lightly that he would take her out for dinner and that was it.

The entanglement of lips and tongues brought back long-lost thoughts. Xu Yanfeng briefly forgot everything. His palm moved along her slender back, touched the back of her neck, lifted it up slightly, and tilted his head to regain the initiative.

Xia Xi was satisfied, his brows relaxed and the corners of his lips curled up.

She gave him a half-eaten piece of toffee.

Xu Yanfeng frowned and was forced to swallow the sweet chocolate.

Xia Xi smiled wickedly, panting as she leaned against his chest. She loved hearing his strong heartbeat, every "thump" seemed to be saying "I love you".

The sky was getting darker and darker, the wind started to blow, the shadows of the trees swayed, and her eyes were soaked in the water light and sparkled, so dazzling even in the shadows.

*

Xu Yanfeng took Xia Xi to a private restaurant, asked for a small private room, and ordered a few of her favorite dishes.

Xia Xi recognized it the first time she took a bite: "Is this the place you ordered takeout from last time?"

Xu Yanfeng nodded, picked up a piece of braised goose for her, and scooped a bowl of matsutake chicken soup and placed it next to her.

Xia Xi praised the dishes endlessly, her chopsticks barely stopping. Meanwhile, Xu Yanfeng only moved his chopsticks a few times, mostly to pick up food for her. She propped up half her cheek, swallowed the food, and poked his rolled-up forearm with her finger. "You have a poor appetite?"

Xu Yanfeng put down his chopsticks and wiped his mouth with a napkin: "I'm not very hungry."

"Really? I thought you were in a bad mood." Bad mood can affect appetite.

"How come?"

Xia Xi narrowed her eyes, trying to examine him. He looked away and picked up the teapot to pour a cup. He had ordered Da Hong Pao, and the fragrance of the tea was not overshadowed by the aroma of the dishes on the table. He lifted the teacup to his lips and took a sip. Xia Xi took a spoon to drink the soup. Seeing that he had drunk a cup of tea and was about to pour a second cup, she said, "Aren't you afraid that you won't be able to sleep after drinking so much tea at night?"
