Chapter 26 No Need to Be Gentle

At four o'clock in the afternoon, Xia Xi took Huang Shiyu from the company to Penglai Hotel.

The driver was Huang Shiyu. She got her driver's license during her undergraduate years and rarely drove, but she had good reaction abilities and drove halfway without any problems.

Xia Xi felt relieved and stopped staring ahead. She took out her cell phone and sent a message to Su Jinru, saying that she had some work to do tonight and might be home late, so she didn't need to wait for her to eat.

Su Jinru replied that she had received the reply.

Xia Xi asked about her grandmother's illness again.

The old lady has poor immunity and recovers slowly. A minor cold lasted for several days and I heard her coughing yesterday.

Su Jinru: "I took her to the hospital for a checkup this afternoon. There's nothing serious. Don't worry."

Xia Xi felt relieved, put away her phone, and turned to look at the girl in the driver's seat. She wasn't much younger than she was, probably fresh out of the workforce, still retaining the youthful energy she'd had back in school. Unlike her, who had already been through the grind of the workplace, she was now more sophisticated and worldly-wise, no longer as carefree and carefree as before.

"Why are you looking for a job in September? Shouldn't the campus recruitment be a few months ago? Your resume is very good, so it shouldn't be difficult for you to find a good job." Xia Xi wanted to get closer to his assistant and picked a random topic to chat.

Unfortunately, she didn't understand the situation beforehand and seemed to have touched upon someone's sad past.

Huang Shiyu was silent for a moment, his lively face now a little broken. "My father is sick with cancer, and there's no one at home to take care of him. I had no choice but to give up looking for a job, and I started working a few months later than my fellow graduates."

"Is that so? Is your father feeling better?"

"He has passed away. Last month, I attended his funeral in my hometown before returning to South City."

Xia Xi's expression froze for a moment, her palms sweating. Without hesitation, she immediately apologized to her: "I'm sorry."

Huang Shiyu glanced at her and tried to curl his lips: "It's okay, you don't know. Everyone has their own destiny. It's all in the past. I will live my own life well."

Half an hour later, they arrived at Penglai Hotel, and Xia Xi and Huang Shiyu got off the car one after another.

Due to the nature of his profession, Xia Xi is accustomed to observing the exterior structure and decoration style of buildings. This place is a quiet place in the bustling city, covering an area of over 1,000 square meters. It is divided into a front hall, a middle courtyard, a back room, and a backyard. The front hall is the reception area responsible for receiving customers, while the middle courtyard is decorated with pavilions, waterside terraces, rockery and flowing water. Every scene is ingeniously designed.

The north, south and west sides are connected by a winding corridor with carved railings. It is adjacent to an artificial lake, where you can enjoy the scenery and feed the fish. There are window holes of different shapes carved on the walls, including diamond, folding fan, vase, longevity peach, etc. Various patterns are made with tiles and bricks in the middle. Behind the wall are boxes of different sizes.

Passing through the moon-shaped gate on the west side, the courtyard behind is a different world with bamboo forests, flower gardens, lotus ponds and suspension bridges, giving a sense of beauty that returns to nature.

The hotel adopts the Su-style garden style as a whole, but also incorporates many modern elements. It can be said to be a combination of simplicity and comfort, and the improvement is just right.

There was still some time left before the time agreed with Mr. Li, so Xia Xi took Huang Shiyu for a walk inside.

Huang Shiyu joked, "Today's WeChat step count is high up the list."

Xia Xi smiled and looked at her watch. There were five minutes left until six o'clock, so she called Mr. Li's assistant.

After the call was connected, Xia Xi introduced herself: "Hello, I'm Xia Xi, the lead designer at Boya Design Company. I've made an appointment with Mr. Li at six o'clock to discuss the teahouse's interior design."

"Miss Xia, please wait a moment. I'll ask for you."

The phone was not hung up, and unclear conversation sounded from the other end. It was probably the assistant covering the receiver and confirming with someone.

After a while, the assistant's voice became clearer, telling her, "Mr. Li hasn't finished his meeting yet. Miss Xia, please go to the Guanlan box and wait for him. He will be here soon."

"Okay." Xia Xi waited for the other party to hang up first, and then said to Huang Shiyu, "Let's go to the box and wait. Mr. Li hasn't arrived yet."

After asking the waiter, I learned that the box named "Guanlan" was at the northernmost end. Walking all the way there, I saw many boxes with interesting names, such as "Qushui", "Fengyan", "Lüfei" and "Fusheng".

The two entered the box and were attracted by the decoration inside. There were several boneless floral paintings hanging on the wall, a harp placed underneath, and behind the four-fold screen was a walnut tea table with a full range of tea sets.

Huang Shiyu stood by the window and pointed outside in amazement: "Here you can see lotus flowers in the pond, and there are even red koi in it. It's amazing."

"Yeah." Xia Xi also noticed that the plane of the box was not an ordinary square, but a polygon. By utilizing the angle relationship, customers in the box can appreciate the scenery outside to the maximum extent.

From the moment I entered the door until now, Penglai Hotel has given me a feeling of tranquility and elegance. It is a very suitable place for leisure and entertainment. I just don’t know how the food here is.

After seeing enough of the scenery, the two sat down and waited.

The customers had not arrived yet and they could not eat yet, so Xia Xi ordered a pot of Biluochun tea and a plate of snacks.

The assistant said, "Mr. Li will be here soon," but who knew we would have to wait for over an hour.

It was getting dark, and the two of them finished the tea and snacks on the table and went to the bathroom twice.

Huang Shiyu couldn't help but complain quietly, "You have absolutely no sense of time. Didn't we say it would be around six o'clock? It's already almost seven-thirty."

Xia Xi held up her chin, her eyes unfocused. "He's a big boss, he must have been delayed by something."

Huang Shiyu: "How about we give them a call and ask? What if they can't come and forget to tell us? Wouldn't we have waited in vain?"
