Chapter 300: There's no need to check in so frequently

Xia Xi answered the phone, glanced out the window, and said in a low voice, "Hello."

"Do you know how I managed to get through these thirteen hours?" Xu Yanfeng said in a dull tone.

Xia Xi: “…”

Is it really that exaggerated?

"You might as well be frank and tell me what you want right now," Xu Yanfeng said, "otherwise, I'll have a sword hanging over my head for the next week, and I might fall before I even see the result."

Xia Xi curled her lips and teased, "Are you also nervous and scared?"

"Yes." Xu Yanfeng answered decisively almost the moment she asked, "Because it's you, I'm not 100% sure."

Xia Xi's eyelids twitched, the smile on his lips disappeared, and his joking intention disappeared.

She pinched the hem of her casual suit, lowered her eyes, and whispered, "I've waited for so many years, can't I wait a week? I don't want to talk on the phone."

"Tsk." Xu Yanfeng was a little depressed, but he couldn't do anything about her, so he finally compromised. "Okay, I'll wait for you. A week, right? I'll fly to London to arrest him a day later."

Xia Xi burst out laughing.

"How can I be sure about work matters? If I say a week, it's about a week. I'm not sure whether it will be around." Xia Xi said softly, "Please be patient."

She stopped talking about this topic and asked the child, "Where's Ziheng?"

"He's asleep. Do you want to see him? We can video call him."

"Need not."

"So you want to see me?"

“…”

Xia Xi was a little overwhelmed by Xu Yanfeng's behavior. She bent down slightly, rested her elbows on her knees, and covered her mouth with her palms, which couldn't stop the upward curve. She didn't say a word for a long time.

Xu Yanfeng was still waiting for her answer, his tone rising: "Hmm?"

Xia Xi coughed lightly and said seriously: "I'm almost at the hotel. I won't talk to you anymore. You should go to bed early."

She finished her words quickly and hung up the phone first. Her heartbeat took a long time to return to normal.

In fact, she was lying, and it would take a long time to get to the hotel.

But she was afraid that she would not be able to hold it back and laugh on the phone.

*

During the few days Xia Xi stayed in London, she never saw a sunny day and always carried an umbrella in her bag in case of sudden rain.

In such gloomy weather, Xia Xi missed Xu Yanfeng especially, his voice, and his warm embrace.

She never thought that one day, the relationship between her and Xu Yanfeng would be reversed. Every time they talked on the phone, Xu Yanfeng would say that he missed her, but she, on the contrary, had several times started a conversation but turned to an irrelevant topic.

What I wanted to say was "I missed you too", but in the end it became "I just had a cookie", "My work progress is going pretty well", "I plan to get a midnight snack later", etc.

It seems that the Xia Xi of seven years ago can never be found again.

After finishing work for the day, Xia Xi refused the car sent by the client. She wanted to go shopping in the mall and buy some things.

She picked out gifts for everyone in her family and carried two full shopping bags. She was feeling a little hungry after shopping and was just looking for a restaurant to eat when a phone call came in.

It was dinner time at this time, and Xia Xi couldn't think of anyone else who would contact her except Xu Yanfeng.

Xia Xi had no hands to answer the phone, so she had to put the shopping bag on the ground and took out her cell phone from her bag. When she looked at the caller ID, it was indeed Xu Yanfeng.

She sat down on the public chair next to her, one hand on the armrest, and heard the person on the other end of the phone ask, "What are you doing?"

Xia Xi said truthfully: "I just finished shopping at the mall and was going to eat."

Xu Yanfeng: "That's fine. Send me a photo later and I'll verify it."

Xia Xi leaned back in her chair and smiled lazily, "Are you really addicted to watching over me?"

Xu Yanfeng didn't refute her. She said whatever she said: "Yeah, addictive."

Xia Xi: “…”

The two of them didn't say much, and Xu Yanfeng urged Xia Xi to eat, as if he was afraid that if he continued chatting with her like this, he would delay her and cause her to starve to death.

Xia Xi put her phone back into her bag, picked up a few shopping bags at her feet, walked out of the mall, and walked into a random restaurant.

She glanced at the menu and, with a good appetite, ordered pasta with meat sauce, a chicken Caesar salad, and a pumpkin soup.

After waiting for a while, the food Xia Xi ordered was served. She didn't start eating. Instead, she took a photo with her mobile phone and sent it to Xu Yanfeng, intending to tell him that she was not lying and she was really eating.

Xu Yanfeng: "Which restaurant is this?"

Xia Xi raised an eyebrow. Could it be that he was interested in the food at this restaurant and planned to check in next time he came? Without thinking too much, she sent him the name of the restaurant and the detailed address.

After calculating the time back home, Xia Xi lowered her eyes and typed on her phone: "It's already one in the morning over there, go to bed quickly."

After sending this message, Xia Xi put down her phone and concentrated on enjoying her dinner.

She was lucky; the restaurant she had chosen blindly was a hit, and the dishes she ordered were all to her taste. Xia Xi ate them all and felt a little full, so she didn't rush to leave, wanting to take a break.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, the already dim sky became even darker, and where the street lights were on, fluffy filaments were floating down.

Xia Xi sat by the window, put her face close to the glass and looked outside. It turned out that it was raining.

In the blink of an eye, the fine raindrops grew larger, making a pattering sound as they fell on the ground, and the ground quickly turned dark.

Xia Xi was afraid that if he waited any longer the rain would get heavier and it would be difficult to get a taxi, so he paid the bill, picked up his things and walked towards the door.

A waiter helped to open the glass door. Xia Xi thanked him and walked out. A cool breeze blew over her. She squinted her eyes and her mind flew away.
