There was no sound on the phone.
Xia Xi muttered, "Is the signal bad?"
She took the phone off her ear and the screen showed that she was on a call and the call had not been disconnected.
"Xu Yanfeng?" Xia Xi raised the phone to her ear again, "Can you hear me?"
"able."
Along with the man's smiling voice, a particularly obvious whistle sounded.
Xia Xi was stunned for a moment, making sure that she had heard correctly, and was a little surprised: "Where are you? You haven't come home yet so late?"
Xu Yanfeng said with a double meaning: "Almost there."
Xia Xi thought of the doubt just now: "You haven't told me yet, how did you know it was raining in London."
Xu Yanfeng refused to tell the truth and kept her in suspense: "Guess."
"I'm guessing you're a bitch." Xia Xi said unhappily, "If you have nothing else, just hang up. I need to take a taxi back to the hotel. It's going to rain hard soon and it'll be hard to get a taxi."
"OK."
"Are you sure you're okay? Why do I feel like you're acting weird?" Xia Xi frowned, trying to guess why he was acting so strangely tonight. "Did you drink too much?"
“…”
At this moment, Xu Yanfeng's silence became Xia Xi's tacit agreement. She was both angry and amused. "Don't you know how bad your alcohol tolerance is? If you can't drink, don't drink. If you get drunk, you'll be the one who suffers."
If someone sitting in Xu Yanfeng's position really didn't want to drink, how many people would have the courage to persuade him?
"Are you concerned about me?" Xu Yanfeng chuckled, unable to hide his joy.
Xia Xi curled her lips: "I'm worried that you can't take good care of Ziheng."
The two chatted for a while, and Xia Xi thought he couldn't waste any more time, so he hung up the phone.
Xia Xi put her phone back into her bag. Suddenly, she heard the sound of a car approaching her.
The ground was already wet, and the tires of the car kicked up water that splashed to both sides.
Xia Xi was afraid of being splashed, so she subconsciously took a step back, but she saw that the black car was parked just two meters away from her, and the turned-on headlights illuminated the raindrops clearly.
The rain fell so fast and so heavily.
The car windows were covered with film, so people outside couldn't see inside. Xia Xi just thought that there were customers sitting in the car who came to the restaurant for dinner. Just as she was about to look away, the back door slid open and she inadvertently caught a glimpse of the man's profile, which looked so familiar.
This man had just spoken to her on the phone.
Xia Xi was stunned. After two seconds, she raised her hand and slapped her face. She didn't drink any alcohol, so there was no such thing as hallucination due to being drunk.
The scene that I had imagined countless times gradually overlapped with the scene before my eyes. A man held up a black umbrella, got out of the car, and walked into the rain. The raindrops hit the umbrella with a crackling sound.
Xia Xi blinked hard, but the scene in front of her did not disappear. The man had already walked in front of her, holding the umbrella handle with his bony fingers, leaning towards her, and taking everything in her hand with his other hand.
"Are you stupid?" Xu Yanfeng's eyes curved into crescents. "Get in the car."
He put his arm around her shoulders, pulled her into his arms, and protected her as they walked forward.
Xia Xi was like a puppet, completely without self-awareness, and was led by him into the overwhelming rain. The noisy rain continued for a short while, and when she got into the car, it instantly became much quieter.
Then, Xu Yanfeng sat next to her, folded his umbrella, and the car door closed automatically.
Completely isolated from wind and rain.
"Are you cold?" Xu Yanfeng put away the dripping umbrella, turned sideways and held her hand.
Her hand was very cold, so he did not let go, but held her other hand tightly.
It was this force that brought Xia Xi back to her senses. She also leaned slightly to the side and looked at him in disbelief, her eyes widening. "Why are you here?"
"Why can't I come?" Xu Yanfeng smiled, and his dark eyes became so bright at this moment.
"Are you here to see me?" Xia Xi's tone was uncertain, "Or is it because of work?"
At this point, lying was meaningless. Xu Yanfeng said, "The former."
Xia Xi was a bit slow to react. The former? Oh, so he was looking for her.
But, he... why did he come here?
"I'll be back in three or four days," Xia Xi said. "It's not even been a week yet, and you're already here in London to arrest someone."
Ever since he met her, the smile on Xu Yanfeng's face has never faded. When he heard her ask this, he laughed so hard that his chest trembled: "Is it not possible?"
Xia Xi didn't say no. She was actually quite surprised to see him, as if it made up for a regret in the past. He came to her on such a rainy day and held an umbrella for her.
The word "surprise" seems too weak to describe this feeling.
She suddenly fell silent. Xu Yanfeng felt uneasy. He leaned close to her face and whispered, "Are you angry that I came here without telling you?"
The car was driving towards the hotel. The neon lights along the road were blurred by the rain. Xia Xi looked up at him with a faint smile on her lips: "Why should I be angry? No."
Xu Yanfeng immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Xia Xi: "I'm just a little surprised."
He held both of her hands, and her cold hands were already stained with the same temperature as his.
Xu Yanfeng said, "I arrived in the evening and waited for you at the hotel. You didn't come back, so I saw it was raining, so I came to look for you."
Xia Xi murmured, no wonder he'd asked her which restaurant she'd eaten at. And, a few days earlier, he'd also asked her which hotel she was staying in. Everything was clear. He'd probably been planning to come to Dunlun to see her for a long time, not just on a whim.
*
When they arrived at the hotel, the waiter came to greet them. Xu Yanfeng only asked him to help take the things out of the car, and he personally took on the task of escorting Xia Xi with an umbrella.
