After thinking for a long time, Zhong Yinghong slowly moved aside.
Xia Xi followed Xu Guanshan into the study, where the decor was simple and elegant, the air thick with the scent of ink and tea. A variety of antique ornaments, presumably all genuine, were placed on the dark walnut display case. Bookshelves in the same color scheme were filled with books, organized into categories. The top shelf required a ladder to reach. A large window on the side faced a small bamboo forest. The blinds were half-open, letting sunlight stream in, creating a pattern of light and dark stripes on the floor. On the wall behind the desk hung an ancient painting, a wash painting, likely an authentic work by a renowned artist.
"Sit down." Xu Guanshan pointed to the chair.
Xia Xi didn't sit down, always feeling that her momentum would be less if she sat down - she didn't have the experience and momentum of Xu Guanshan, so she had to rely on some appearances to strengthen herself.
Xu Guanshan ignored her and sat down on the armchair behind the desk, giving Xia Xi a chance to speak: "Nothing to say to me?"
Xia Xi said nothing.
Outside the door, Xu Junmo tilted his ear to listen, but heard nothing. The study's soundproofing was top-notch. He gave up, and just then, he heard the phone in his pocket ring.
Xu Yanfeng sent a message: "Please help me look after your brother and sister-in-law."
Xu Junmo really wanted to reply with the words "powerless".
A moment later, Xu Junmo knocked on the door of the study. Without waiting for the response from the person inside, he walked in rashly, holding a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice in his hand, and took notice of the two people in the study.
The atmosphere was a bit strange, but it wasn't tense, so it was okay.
Xu Guanshan looked at his eldest son who had broken in without permission, his eyebrows twitching and a hint of anger rising on his face.
Xu Junmo said stubbornly, "Mom was worried that Xia Xi wouldn't be used to your tea, so she asked me to bring in a drink."
He found a suitable excuse for his behavior, put down the cup, and without daring to stay a moment longer, slipped out and closed the door.
Xia Xi was thirsty, so she took a sip. It had the natural sweetness of an orange, just the right level of sweetness. She glanced at the bookshelf. There were many books on architecture, some of which were out of print.
Suddenly I remembered that Xu Yanfeng also studied architecture in college, so it’s not surprising.
Xu Guanshan looked at her relaxed and contented expression and said coldly, "I remember you promised me last time that even if we were to cooperate with the Xu Corporation, you would only discuss work with Xu Yanfeng and not any personal affairs. I chose to believe you, but you teased me. Xia Xi, do you think I wouldn't dare to touch you just because Xu Yanfeng is there to protect you?"
