Chapter 11: Should I go with the army?

No one can understand what it feels like to wait for someone to grow up.

In fact, even Yan Junting himself didn't understand, but what was certain was that over the years, only that little girl could make him unable to forget her.

Perhaps this is what they call love at first sight, or perhaps this is fate.

He turned around and saw that Yun Duoduo behind him was a little flustered. He thought that Yun Duoduo was still struggling with the matter of the bride price. He reached out and took Yun Duoduo's hand and said with a smile, "Don't worry, my wife Yan Junting will not be wronged. I gave the dowry to my mother-in-law last night. As for the bride price, whatever you want, or whatever your family lacks, we will go and buy it now."

"You gave my mother a gift of money this morning?" This surprised Yun Duoduo, as she thought Yan Junting hadn't even considered this matter.

“Of course, how can you get a wife without giving a bride price?” After saying that, Yan Junting smiled and winked at Yun Duoduo, “But my mother doesn’t know, which is why Qiu Ting and Yun Xiaoqin’s situation happened.”

Yun Duoduo raised an eyebrow and smiled. It wasn't the money she was after that mattered; it was Yan Junting's respect for her and his ability to distinguish between filial piety and blind obedience. That was enough for her.

In a large family, it's very rare to find a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law without any conflicts. But the husband's attitude is the most important factor. If the husband protects his wife, the mother-in-law can't do anything about it.

For example, Yan Junting resolved the marriage matter without making things difficult for her, which she was very satisfied with.

After a pause, Yan Junting suddenly remembered something and said to Yun Duoduo, "If you don't like Yun Xiaoqin as your sister-in-law, then she can't enter the Yan family. Don't worry."

“I…” Yun Duoduo didn’t know what to say. Actually, if Yun Xiaoqin hadn’t been so arrogant, she wouldn’t have minded whether or not she would marry into the Yan family.

Or, if Yan Qiuting really liked Yun Xiaoqin, she wouldn't make things difficult for the two of them.

However, being pampered like this made her feel sweet inside. It was a little regrettable that this pampering seemed to be for the original owner of the body, not for her.

But this is something that can't be agonized over. The original owner is gone, and she can't tell Yan Junting her identity, at least not at this stage.

So, let's leave it at that for now.

Yun Duoduo shook her head at Yan Junting, "The bride price isn't important, and it doesn't matter if there's no dowry. I just didn't like Yun Xiaoqin being so smug in front of me."

Yun Duoduo was certain that no matter how much dowry Yan Junting gave, her family would just give it to her; their only hope was that she would be happy.

"My wife is so good." Yan Junting smiled at Yun Duoduo.

As they talked, the two pushed their bicycles out of the township government and into the town. The town's supply and marketing cooperative was not far away.

At this time, although business restrictions had gradually eased, the number of self-employed individuals in many places had begun to increase.

However, the town's supply and marketing cooperative remains the main place for locals to buy things, but Yun Duoduo also noticed that some people were selling things they produced themselves by the roadside, carrying baskets.

Yun Duoduo looked around, wondering if there was a black market or anything like that nearby; she had to go check it out.

Once I get here, I definitely can't write novels anymore, and I can't just coast along; I have to make money.

Seeing that Yun Duoduo was staring at the people selling things, Yan Junting asked her softly, "So now we're going to buy something, what do you want to get?"

Yun Duoduo shook her head, thinking to herself, if she really wanted to start a business, what should she sell, food or household items?

Seeing that Yun Duoduo didn't answer, Yan Junting continued, "Just buy what we need for the next few days. We'll stay at home for a few days and then go back to Kyoto soon. Once we get back to the military compound, you can slowly decorate our yard."

"I want to go back to Kyoto with you?" Yun Duoduo was stunned. Did this mean she had to go with the army?

She had originally planned that after getting married, once Yan Junting went to the army, she would stay at her parents' home and gradually develop her career.

In recent years, policies have been relaxed, but many people still dare not try to do business and make money. This is the best time to do business.

Unexpectedly, Yan Junting nodded as if it were a matter of course, "Of course, you are my wife, so wherever I am, you will be there too."

After a pause, Yan Junting added with a smile, "Moreover, after I get married, I'll be allocated a spacious courtyard in the military. That'll be our home, and you can decide how to decorate it."

When Yun Duoduo heard this, her eyes lit up. That would work too!

At worst, they can develop their careers in Kyoto. Besides, it's just the two of them; they can do whatever they want.

Instantly, she felt hopeful about joining the army.

She nodded to Yan Junting, "Then let's not buy anything for now. My family has everything we need."

Yan Junting nodded in agreement. "We'll go back and discuss the bride price with our parents first, and see what your family needs so we can provide it."

After the two discussed it, Yan Junting rode his bicycle and took Yun Duoduo back to the Yan family home.

The Yan family's courtyard was much worse than the Yun family's.

From the outside, the bottom meter is made of red bricks, the middle is made of mud bricks, and at the top, several layers of blue bricks are used. This is to save on red and blue bricks, which means that when the house was built, the economy was not good.

Because you can make your own mud bricks without spending money, while you have to buy red and blue bricks.

It's also clear that Ding Meixiang isn't very good at managing a household in the Yan family.

Logically speaking, their family has a fair number of able-bodied members, and more importantly, Yan Junting works away from home. Even if he only sends back ten yuan a month, their family would be living a much better life than most.

But even building a house was a struggle for them. No wonder Yun Duoduo heard from the villagers that the matriarch of the Yan family was not good at managing the household.

Besides, judging from the tone of Yan Junting's voice when he argued with his mother, he must have been sending back a lot of money every month.

But life was still not as good as others, and it seems the villagers were right after all.

Yun Duoduo looked around outside the courtyard before Yan Junting pulled her inside.

The courtyard was fairly clean and looked quite cozy.

As soon as they entered, the once quiet courtyard became noisy, and a man and a woman came out from the backyard.

The man was in his fifties, with a gentle and kind appearance. The girl beside him looked to be about fifteen or sixteen years old, and she also had a smile on her face.

Yan Junting smiled and introduced Yun Duoduo, "This is my father, and this is my sister Yan Honglan. You can just call her Honglan."

"Father," Yun Duoduo called out to Yun Gusheng.

Aside from being somewhat timid due to Ding Meixiang's suppression, Yun Gusheng is actually a very kind person who loves his family's children very much.

There was a commotion at home last night about Yun Duoduo and Yan Junting. Although Ding Meixiang disagreed, he had no objection. He was happy as long as his son liked it.
