Chapter 12 The wife he'd waited over ten years for, how could he not get enough of her?

Moreover, seeing Yun Duoduo's smile, he instinctively felt that she was a good child.

He smiled and nodded at Yun Duoduo, "Okay, okay, you've just come to our house. If there's anything you're not familiar with, just ask Honglan."

Immediately, Yan Honglan, who was standing next to him, came over with a smile, put her arm around Yun Duoduo's arm and said, "Sister-in-law, it's me, Honglan. I've tidied up your and my brother's room. Come and take a look and see how it's done. If there's anything you don't like, I'll fix it again."

Yan Honglan is only sixteen years old this year. She was originally in junior high school, but because her grades were not good, she dropped out of school in the second year and stayed at home.

However, she has a talent for making clothes and is now learning from a tailor, intending to master a skill.

Yan Honglan is very beautiful, of medium height, with fair skin. She looks somewhat like Ding Meixiang, but she lacks Ding Meixiang's strong aura, making her very pleasant to look at.

Yun Duoduo followed Yan Honglan to Yan Junting's house. The house was not big, with a wooden table, a wooden cabinet, and a kang (a heated brick bed). The kang was wide and very tidy.

The room was covered with fabrics of the same color scheme—the tables, cabinets, even the blankets and sheets were all the same emerald green, which brought a touch of life to the room and made it feel comfortable.

Without a doubt, Ding Meixiang dislikes her so much that she wouldn't prepare anything.

Yan Junting, a grown man, wouldn't like such bright colors; this must have been arranged by Yan Honglan.

Yun Duoduo reached out and patted Honglan's head, smiling, "Honglan, thank you, sister-in-law. I like this color the most."

Honglan was overjoyed to see that Yun Duoduo genuinely liked it. She shook her head and smiled, "No need to thank me, it's what I should do."

After saying that, she glanced at the clock on the wall. It was almost noon, and she had to make lunch. She asked Yun Duoduo, "Sister-in-law, what do you like to eat? I'll make you something delicious for lunch."

Before Yun Duoduo could answer, Yan Honglan pointed to a small pile of potatoes in the corner of the yard and asked, "Do you like potatoes? I'll make some steamed pork with potato starch, okay?"

Since Yun Duoduo had just arrived, she couldn't make any demands, so she immediately nodded, "Anything is fine..."

No sooner had Yun Duoduo finished speaking than Ding Meixiang's displeased voice came from outside, "Why are you making steamed pork with rice flour? There's so little meat left. We were thinking of waiting for the guests to come, but why are you making meat?"

After Ding Meixiang entered the house, she deliberately kicked a stool, making a crackling sound in the yard, to express her dissatisfaction.

Seeing this, Yan Junting glanced at her, then took out ten yuan from his pocket and handed it to Honglan, deliberately calling out, "Honglan, how much meat is left at home? Steam it all for me."

"Here's ten yuan. Go to the shop at the east end of the village and buy some food. Buy whatever you see. Make me four dishes and a soup for dinner tonight. Today is your sister-in-law's first time eating at my house, so we have to take it seriously."

In the confrontation between Ding Meixiang and Yan Junting, Yan Honglan sided with Yan Junting. She immediately took the money from Yan Junting's hand, smiled and nodded, "Okay, big brother, I'll go right away."

Yan Honglan took the money and ran towards the east end of the village.

Watching Yan Honglan run away, Ding Meixiang gritted her teeth in anger. Ten yuan was almost half a month's food expenses for her family. Did she have to waste it like that?

Yan Junting greeted Yan Gusheng in the courtyard, then went into his room and closed the door, ignoring Ding Meixiang.

Seeing this, Ding Meixiang started making a scene in the yard, "Have a son, have a son, what's the use of having a son? I haven't even married a wife yet, and he's already treating me like this. After my wife comes into the house, where will I stand in this house?"

Yan Gusheng, who was repairing farm tools in the yard, saw Ding Meixiang's expression and thought she was deliberately causing trouble, so he lowered his voice and said, "Stop it. Don't always think about your own little schemes. Your son's happiness is more important than anything else."

"Besides, what's wrong with Duoduo? She's pretty, comes from a good family, and everyone in her family is educated. They're much better off than us. What are you dissatisfied with?"

Ding Meixiang snorted and said unwillingly, "I... I like Yun Xiaoqin. That child is honest."

“It’s not like you’re getting married. What good is it if you like her? It’s up to your son to like her.” Yan Gusheng spoke frankly. “Besides, only you think Yun Xiaoqin is honest. With parents like her, what kind of honest child can she raise?”

These words silenced Ding Meixiang.

That's exactly right. Yun Xiaoqin's parents were notorious in the village for being greedy, mean, and lazy.

Seeing that she remained silent, Yan Gusheng shook his head and spoke the truth, "I think you're just resentful that your son doesn't listen to you, aren't you?"

Ding Meixiang remained silent, but that was indeed what she was thinking.

Yan Gusheng sighed and advised her, "Our son has grown up and has his own ideas. Isn't that a good thing? He likes his own wife, so they can have a good life together in the future."

"Are you really determined to make your son and daughter-in-law go back to the army and never see us again? Let's see who suffers in the end."

That was the key point. Ding Meixiang certainly didn't dare to make a scene like that, but she couldn't save face, so she yelled at Yan Gusheng, "You old geezer, whose side are you on?"

"I'm going to work. Think about it yourself." After saying that, Yan Gusheng picked up his hoe and hurried out the door, otherwise he would be the one to get scolded later.

Ding Meixiang sat in the courtyard for a while, thinking about what Yan Gusheng had said earlier, and she felt a little more at ease.

Yun Duo's family is well-off and has connections in both the brigade and the township government. This means they have relatives who are cadres, which will make things much easier for them in the future.

Thinking about it that way, I wasn't so angry anymore.

But it's impossible for her to bow her head and admit her mistakes.

She thought for a moment, then took a hoe from the yard and went to work in the fields.

Inside the house, only Yan Junting and Yun Duoduo were present.

Yun Duoduo sat at the table, while Yan Junting sat on the bed, staring at her intently, as if he couldn't get enough of her, which made Yun Duoduo feel a little awkward.

She blushed slightly and glared at Yan Junting playfully, "What are you looking at? You've been looking all day, haven't you had enough?"

"I've waited over ten years for my wife, how can I not see her enough?" Yan Junting chuckled softly, reached out and pulled Yun Duoduo to his side, and with a gentle pull, Yun Duoduo sat on his lap.

Yun Duoduo blushed slightly; she and Yan Junting weren't actually that close...

However, they are already husband and wife, so it's hard to say they're not familiar with each other.

Despite feeling uncomfortable, she let Yan Junting hold her and looked up at him.

Yan Junting looked down at her, his deep eyes gazing at her for a long time. His hand around her waist kneaded her gently and sometimes firmly, which inexplicably reminded Yun Duoduo of what they hadn't finished doing in the little house by the fishpond yesterday.
