Chapter 198 Library

It was still early outside the apartment, and a hazy mist hung over the streets of Viña City. Cyber-style neon lights appeared and disappeared, and a large screen could be vaguely seen in the distance with several large blue characters lit up on it, which seemed to be a sign.

Suddenly a gust of wind blew, slightly dispersing the fog, and Yin Zhu finally saw the true face of the city.

Not far away, a jungle of steel and concrete rises from the ground, with countless skyscrapers soaring into the sky. Aircraft with dazzling light streaks weave between the buildings or land on parking lots in mid-air. Countless neon signs hang on the outer high-rises, while further in, there are steel buildings of various shapes and designs.

All of this fits Yin Zhu's impression of cyberpunk in literary and artistic works.

It would be even better if, after the wind stops, the thick fog didn't gradually fill the surrounding environment and obscure the view, making the buildings in the distance appear hazy.

Yin Zhu was starting to miss her mask; after all, the fog was so thick it was visible to the naked eye, and the amount of inhalable particulate matter was probably already exceeding the limit.

Considering that Hirano Sane was still waiting for her at the apartment, Yin Zhu decided to first find a place where she could obtain more information.

If this were an ancient text, Yin Zhu would go to a teahouse; if this were a modern text, Yin Zhu would go to an internet cafe. However, the world today is a cyberpunk world, and the knowledge that can be shared online is probably monopolized by capital. So where can people obtain information with the lowest possible threshold?

A few minutes later, Yin Zhu stood at the bar entrance, smiling as she declined the bodyguard's invitation: "No need, thank you, I'm not interested in men."

“Sometimes there are also female senior citizens.”

"No, my family will blame me if they find out, and I can't afford to offend the higher-ups."

The bodyguard looked somewhat regretful and did not insist on keeping him.

As she turned around, Yin Zhu's smile vanished without a trace, and her eyes turned cold.

This bar has a fee requirement: ordinary men need to pay 5 Vena coins to enter, but three types of people don't need to pay: high-class citizens, women, and very good-looking men.

Yin Zhu pondered the similarities and differences between the three and instantly understood.

Ordinary customers are ordinary consumers, high-class citizens are big spenders, and the remaining two are resources provided to big spenders.

In places where people are treated as resources, safety is inherently compromised. Furthermore, such places are often chaotic and unpredictable; if someone is discovered to lack even basic knowledge, they are easily identified. Judging from the worms' reactions, there are many illegal immigrants in Vina City. Obtaining legal citizenship requires assistance, and being discovered by the natives would likely pose a significant problem.

After all, there are no family rules like in "The Green House" here; the natives of Viña City and she are not a loving family.

Yin Zhu wandered aimlessly through the streets for a while before finally finding a park she could enter for free. She found a bench and sat down. The plants in the park were all fake replicas, and there were no birdsong or fragrant flowers, only a faint smell of plastic in the air.

Most adults are busy with work and rarely have time to come to the park to rest. However, there was a man who looked like a kindergarten teacher leading a group of strangely shaped children to play here.

They are described as strange because some of the children have exhibited non-human characteristics, such as feathers on their heads, hairy hands, and beards on their faces.

After the children had finished playing, the man gathered them around him and began to tell them stories about the city of Vena: "Long, long ago, there were legends about gods that circulated on the planet One Star. Do you know what One Star is?"

"I know! It's the planet we live on! We are the only life forms in the entire universe favored by the gods!"

The children answered in unison.

Yin Zhu pricked up her ears; her sixth sense told her that there could be a lot of information here.

“You all do a great job, thumbs up!” The man patted the heads of the nearby children. “Back then, no one had ever seen a god, only winged people who flew down from the sky as messengers of the gods. We called those people angels.”

"I know angels!" One of the children, with feathers on her head, jumped up and raised her hand excitedly, as if afraid that others wouldn't see her. "I have a neighbor who is an angel. He has two wings on his back! And his parents can move in the air without a flying machine!"

"Wow! That's great!" The other children looked on with envy, which made the hairy-headed child even more proud, and he stood up straight.

"Later, disaster struck One Planet. The gods could have turned a blind eye, but they still gave up their beautiful paradise for humanity and returned to One Planet to drive away the disaster. But once they came down, they could never go back. To thank them for their sacrifice, humanity built the city of Vena for them. And our One Planet, along with the gods, returned to the human world. Technology advanced by leaps and bounds, freeing us from our original labor. We can now work with machines, which is why you can live in such a wonderful place."

Yin Zhu didn't know how many gods he had glorified with his words, but just by looking at the reactions of the group of children, he knew that their eyes were full of light and they were willing to do anything for the gods.

Before Yin Zhu could think much of it, the man led the children over and said, "Hello, it's been a long time since I've seen a lady who isn't working. I noticed you've been looking at us. Do you have any opinions on my lecture?"

lecture?

Yin Zhu subconsciously glanced at the man's clothes. They were indeed better than those of many ordinary office workers she encountered on the street. He seemed to be a high-class citizen.
