Just as Cheng Zhu was about to head to the dormitory with Ya, someone suddenly tapped him on the shoulder: "Hey classmate?"
She whirled around and saw that the person behind her was the female classmate she had noticed during the exam. At that moment, this person was smiling at Cheng Zhu: "You seemed to have glanced at me a few times during the exam?"
This person has a very high level of insight...
Now that he'd been caught red-handed, Chengzhu stopped pretending and laid his cards on the table: "Yes, are you also a suburban immigrant?"
"No, I'm from the city." The other person seemed to have anticipated Cheng Zhu's question and smiled brightly. "You also wrote very carefully during the exam, so you must have very good study habits, right? How about we exchange contact information?"
So she has high hopes for her own potential?
Chengzhu understood the other person's meaning almost instantly—she had only started paying attention to Chengzhu because he wrote fluently during the exam.
This may be the reason why good students are attracted to each other.
Cheng Zhu didn't refuse the invitation and quickly obtained the other person's information. For some reason, this classmate didn't hide much personal information from Cheng Zhu, so they showed him a whole bunch of things.
[Name: Alice Smith De Sweeney]
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Occupation: Student
Hobbies: Sociology, music, games
[Introduction: May the world be at peace and all people be equal.]
[Social Evaluation: The sixth-generation head of the Sweeney family and first in line to inherit the family business; the first person to propose a personalized recommendation mechanism; he has made significant contributions to minimizing social conflicts and promoting social harmony in the smart city.]
family?
The fact that the other person had such a long name was enough to prove that she was highly experienced, which made Cheng Zhu look at her with more respect.
Such suffixes are often the surnames of ancestors, and the longer the name, the greater the lineage.
"Don't look at me like that. Many of my achievements are not necessarily my own." Alice waved her hand with a smile. "Elders always want to leave as much wealth as possible to their descendants, and there is a lot of exaggeration in my long list of social evaluations."
Cheng Zhu wouldn't listen to the other woman's modesty; he always felt that this woman was unfathomable.
However, having a friend of considerable status wasn't a bad thing for Chengzhu; it might even provide her with many conveniences. Thinking this way, Chengzhu proactively brought up the topic: "Did you grow up in Smart City? What was it like here before?"
“The smart city of the past…” Alice drawled, giving herself time to think, “wasn’t as mature as it is now. Suburban immigrants often clashed with city residents. But then the personalized recommendation system came along, and there weren’t so many disputes in the city. Before the personalized recommendation system, people often complained, ‘I really don’t want to see you.’ Now the system blocks people they can’t talk to. Isn’t that great?”
Cheng Zhu found it difficult to comment: "I just felt a little scared. There were clearly many people, but I couldn't see their presence."
“You get used to this. Sometimes, seeing the truth is even more terrifying. Isn’t it better to live in a utopia?” Alice smiled and looked at Cheng Zhu, but Cheng Zhu felt that she was observing him.
"Not everyone willingly allows themselves to be deceived, right? There are always brave souls who dare to face reality."
Cheng Zhu and Alice had arrived at the entrance of the dormitory building. Looking up, they took in the entire dormitory building, which looked rather extravagant: "Wow... no wonder it's in the city..."
"Is this the first time Christine has seen the dormitory buildings of Slote High School?"
Ya, who hadn't dared to disturb Alice and Chengzhu's conversation along the way, finally found an opportunity and excitedly jumped out to introduce to Chengzhu: "This teaching building is the work of the famous architect Ludwig Stewart. He himself advocated that buildings should also be able to breathe, not be straight iron plates. He was keen on designing buildings in a streamlined way and proposed the concept of flowing space."
Then came a long string of architectural terms that Cheng Zhu had never heard of before. He only understood the praise, such as "the building gives people a feeling that it can move with the wind," "makes the building look softer," and "elegance and practicality coexist."
Looking at the building before him, Cheng Zhu could only nod in awe, though he didn't quite understand.
The dormitory building of Slote High School is like a huge white world tree, with the trunk stretching out gracefully in the middle. On the branches are small, round, fruit-like rooms. The huge floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to shine into the rooms clearly, while the curtains can be drawn to block all prying eyes.
It really looks great. Whether it's practical or not is another matter, but its aesthetic appeal is off the charts.
Cheng Zhu interrupted Ya's continued explanation: "How do we get up there?"
“You’ll find out once you go in.” Alice seemed unable to see Aya’s presence and assumed she was being spoken to, so she immediately gave her reply.
The two arrived at the entrance to the tree trunk. After scanning the smooth wall, it slowly dissolved to reveal a gap, like an open door inviting the two new students inside. The previous new students had also entered through this same spot; no one needed to specifically teach them, Cheng Zhu had simply learned it from seeing it.
The dormitory manager on the first floor was a pristine white robot. After a quick scan of Chengzhu and Alice, he registered their information in the database.
The robot took Alice's hand, lowered its head and gently kissed it, and as a courtesy, spoke in a somewhat mechanical voice: "Alice Smith de Sweeney, Class of 2014, Room 401."
Then, in the exact same manner, he kissed Cheng Zhu: "Christine, freshman class of 2014, dormitory number 402."
Cheng Zhu then realized that the place the robot kissed seemed to be the location where the smart chip was embedded in the back of his hand. With technology having advanced to this point, robots should be able to implant information remotely, yet they insisted on kissing him. Cheng Zhu couldn't help but be speechless at the designer's perverse sense of humor.
