Chapter 280 Night Storm

Jiang Ran didn't pick up the bowl on the table. He wasn't so careless as to trust someone he'd only known for less than a minute—oh right, she wasn't even human.

The girl was used to this, and simply served herself a bowl, taking a slow sip.

"It's just a warming herbal soup," the girl explained. "It's just that there aren't any normal plants around here, so I could only find some non-toxic ones to boil. As for the color... it might be a little strange."

"My name is Alice." Alice's gaze fell on the oddly shaped old-fashioned clock in the room. "The time is almost up."

"What time?"

“The time of the night storm.” Alice turned her head. “At this time, all living things outside will be wiped out in the night storm. Unfortunately, others never listen to me and always leave after one night. But where here is there a second house for them to avoid the night storm the next day?”

“If you’re a smart person,” Alice looked at Jiang Ran, a smile appearing on her face for the first time, “then stay and keep me company. Hey, the three of us won’t be bored, will we?”

Jiang Ran didn't answer, but Alice smiled gently, as if it were commonplace. "For you, is moving forward necessarily more important than life?"

"No, my principle has always been to put life first, but moving forward does not necessarily mean losing one's life."

“Big brother, your overconfidence will one day cause you to fall from the mountaintop.” Alice walked back to the large pot and stirred the black liquid. “This is not a curse, just a kind reminder.”

Seeing that Alice was no longer talking to him, Jiang Ran also withdrew his thoughts and began to extract the talents of this world.

Among the three SSS-level talents, Jiang Ran immediately took a liking to the one that was somewhat peculiar.

[SSS-Rank Talent: Return from Death]

[Effect: After you die, you will be resurrected at a special save point timeline (uncontrollable). The number of resurrections is random but will never be less than five. After time is reset, all states of that world will return to that timeline.]

If I gave you multiple chances, could you achieve a perfect ending?

It may seem like just a life-saving ability, but the ability to rewind time can turn around many situations. Theoretically, it can rewrite many wrong paths. However, this talent also has a drawback: if the rewind time is too long, it will cause you to fall behind in solo dungeons.

However, just like Jiang Ran didn't use up all his talent chances in the previous dungeon, when one's own strength is sufficient, there is no need to use up all the talent chances to clear the dungeon. In most cases, talents are just a guarantee. After all, in the world above S-level, if you have no talents at all, you will be doomed if you make a mistake once.

Then there's the A-rank talent refreshed by the Holy Cross.

[A-Rank Talent - Fate's Coin]

[Effect: Once per world count, when you make a decision, flip a coin. Heads or tails will indicate the risk of that decision.]

When in doubt, try asking a coin.

Alice put the lid on the pot, extinguished the firewood, closed all the windows, and then extinguished the oil lamp on the table, plunging the entire room into darkness.

"From now until tomorrow morning, there should be no light or sound in the room, otherwise it will attract bad things." Alice huddled in the corner of the room, pulled a small quilt over herself, and whispered to the two of them, "You should get some rest too, goodnight."

Everything fell silent.

Gwen was a little unhappy. She had wanted to hear Jiang Ran tell a story, but Alice told them to be quiet, and she certainly couldn't throw a tantrum at this moment.

Jiang Ran stroked Gwen's hair, and Gwen leaned into Jiang Ran's arms, adjusted to a comfortable position, closed her eyes, and dozed off.

Although the strange creature doesn't need to sleep to restore its energy, it seems that she has nothing else to do besides sleep right now.

Thump thump thump—

Some time later, a knock on the door startled Gwen awake.

Jiang Ran patted Gwen on the back, signaling her to keep quiet for the time being.

[Rule Two: If you are inside a room and someone knocks on the door at night, do not open it. If the knocking stops after a while, act as if nothing happened. If the knocking continues, do not disturb anything in front of the door, and escape through the window.]

Jiang Ran only managed to drift into a light sleep and rest briefly. The night was fraught with danger, and he had to ensure he could stay awake at any moment.

Will Alice open the door for the guy in front of it? After all, she didn't seem to think much before opening the door for herself, so there's no guarantee she won't open it again.

However, Alice did not move. It is unknown whether she had fallen asleep or noticed something was wrong.

She had previously stated that during the "Night Storm," all living things in the outside world would be wiped out, and it is worth pondering what exactly would emerge under such circumstances.

There was no answer. The knocking stopped for a few seconds, then resumed, this time with more force and frequency!

Should I escape through the window? But it's the time of the "night storm" outside. Even if I escape from the room, can I survive outside?

Thump thump thump—

Alice remained motionless. Jiang Ran didn't quite believe she was fast asleep. This proved that this wasn't the first time she had encountered something like this. Would the things outside the door just leave on their own if she didn't make a sound or do anything?

Thump—

With one last pounding, the knocking finally stopped.

The night returned to calm until the next morning.

Alice opened the window, and sunlight streamed into the small house, which woke Gwen up groggily.

"It seems you didn't get a good rest yesterday."

Alice turned to Jiang Ran and said.

"Thank you for your concern," Jiang Ran replied, "but I'm used to it."

"By the way, do you know what that thing that was knocking on the door last night was?"

"I don't know." Alice shook her head. "If I knew, I probably wouldn't be alive now. So, it's better not to know certain things that we shouldn't know."

Jiang Ran looked at Alice, a seemingly defenseless little girl who had lived alone in such an environment all this time. Was she really just an ordinary person?

"Big brother, have you decided to leave?" Alice sighed softly. "If you're lucky enough, you might be able to find the legendary 'Lost City,' but of course, it's highly unlikely."

"I suggest you stay here, well, you probably won't take my words seriously."
