Chapter Twenty-Five: Nie Yan is a Foodie
The Heng Prince lineage originally owned a Duke's mansion in the capital. After Qin Lan was granted the title of Heng Prince, most of the residence went to his cousin, the Earl of Tongyuan, Qin Xiaoren, leaving only a separate courtyard as Heng Prince's residence in the capital. However, a year after Qin Lan's death, this cousin had not been heard from in a single day. Qin Mo, having come to the capital this time, simply stayed in the military camp, out of sight, out of mind.
The night in Fengtai was quiet; apart from the sentries on night duty, no one moved about in the various camps. All regulations were in accordance with wartime rules. If it weren't for the palpable sense of impending doom, one might mistake this for a desolate, deserted wilderness.
Qin Mo cultivated silently within his large tent. Since its rebirth, Nirvana Flame had mostly retreated into the mark on Qin Mo's chest, only occasionally venturing out to scatter specks of black light to strengthen and transform Qin Mo's body. After several observations, Qin Mo finally discovered that while strengthening its body with black light, this creature would also draw wisps of black flame from its own flesh to devour.
She possessed the Nirvana Flame Body, which inexplicably generated black flames within her body. These black flames, after being absorbed by the Phoenix Mark, would transform into newly born crimson-black Nirvana Flame. The crimson-black Nirvana Flame, however, fed on the original black flames. So, the black light strengthening Qin Mo's body was actually paid for by the Nirvana Flame!
Regardless, since Nirvana's rebirth, Qin Mo's dantian has begun to retain drops of primordial fluid, gradually revitalizing the long-parched dantian. Qin Mo controls the primordial fluid in his dantian to form a vortex. As the vortex slowly rotates, the primordial energy of the earth is drawn in, seeping into his body through his mouth, nose, and skin, and being absorbed, thrown away, and integrated by the vortex.
The primordial energy between heaven and earth is not all gentle; most of it is extremely volatile. After being absorbed into the body, Qin Mo needs to use the "Returning Heart Sutra" to get rid of the volatile and difficult-to-integrate primordial energy and only absorb the gentle and mild part for her own use.
This is the profound mystery of the *Return to the Heart Sutra*. It can perfectly separate and decompose gentle primordial energy, while expelling violent and harmful primordial energy from the body. Although its advancement speed is not as rapid as the *Breaking the Technique*, it is balanced and peaceful, with a solid foundation. As long as one cultivates step by step, one will eventually reach the Profound Realm. The Great Xia royal family has cultivated a large number of high-level cultivators by relying on the strength of their bloodline and the reliability of the *Return to the Heart Sutra*.
But today was destined to be an unusual day. For many days, Qin Mo had been on the road, cultivating for at most an hour. Now, in his own camp, he felt at ease and had cultivated for a while longer. The turbulent energy accumulated in his body was much stronger than usual. Qin Mo's body was already so strong that it was almost inhuman, completely able to resist the invasion of the turbulent energy. Therefore, he simplified the steps to get rid of the turbulent energy, planning to cultivate for several more weeks before doing so.
But Nie Yan, who was sleeping soundly in the mark on his chest, poked out half of his body, with two long, thin horns sticking out of his head, constantly probing the dense, violent energy, just like an infant seeing an unknown, interesting thing.
Qin Mo was greatly alarmed. The Nirvana Flame never appeared during his cultivation; he had never encountered such a situation before. He quickly slowed the rotation of the Yuan Liquid vortex in his cultivation field, about to stop. Just then, a strange change occurred.
Nie Yan seemed to have tasted the primordial energy and found it very palatable. It immediately plunged into the dense and turbulent primordial energy and began to devour it greedily. After only circling around Qin Mo's lungs and internal organs twice, it cleared away all the turbulent primordial energy. Then, still feeling unsatisfied, it began to circle around the vortex of primordial liquid in Qin Mo's dantian, as if looking for an easy spot to feast on.
"Stop, stop, stop... Oh my god, they're a family... If you keep eating, I'll be stuck in the Profound Realm forever!" Qin Mo couldn't help but curse. What was this glutton doing? Could it be that the Yuan Qi and Nie Yan had formed an unparalleled feud after nearly twenty years of fighting?
Perhaps realizing that Qin Mo's emotions had fluctuated greatly, Nie Yan, like a child being scolded by an adult, was briefly stunned before reluctantly retreating back into the phoenix mark on his chest and snoring.
After Qin Mo stopped cultivating, he realized that he was soaked in sweat. He was really afraid that the Yuan Liquid he had painstakingly cultivated would be swallowed by Nie Yan.
He wiped the sweat off his body, changed his clothes, lay on the bed and breathed a sigh of relief. Then he couldn't help but daydream: if Nirvana Flame could be controlled by him in the future and only consume the violent primordial energy that the Returning Heart Sutra could not refine, would he be able to cultivate faster?
The Central Military Command of the Great Xia Empire, located in the southwest corner of the Imperial Palace in the Great Xia capital, is subordinate to the Ministry of War, one of the six ministries of the Great Xia court. It is responsible for the recruitment, training, garrisoning, and defense of the Great Xia army. While the Ministry of War is responsible for formulating policies and strategies, the Central Military Command controls the deployment of troops. Although they are subordinate to each other, they also maintain a system of checks and balances.
Today was the deadline specified in the conscription order, and Qin Mo and Wu Shengze arrived at the Central Military Mansion early to wait. As the sun rose higher, groups of nobles gathered in twos and threes in front of the mansion; they were all nobles conscripted to guard the northern border. Wu Shengze carefully explained to Qin Mo those he recognized, this one being the heir apparent of the Prince of Anyang, that one the heir apparent of the Marquis of Huibo—mostly heir apparents or eldest sons, rarely the head of the family himself.
"Hahaha, Mozi, you've gotten even more beautiful in three years!" A strange laugh reached Qin Mo's ears and attracted the attention of the crowd on the sidelines. Qin Mo's appearance was truly unique, and Wu Shengze's position clearly indicated that he was a retainer, suggesting that Qin Mo was the leader. Everyone wondered, whose son was this? How could such a frail body withstand the wind and frost of the north?
Qin Mo looked at the pitying and regretful gazes directed at him, his teeth grinding together. He hadn't absorbed many memory fragments, and this strange-voiced fellow was one of the few important figures in Qin Mo's memories.
