Chapter 4 Conflict (1/3)

There was deathly silence under the eaves, with only the rustling sound of falling snow being audible.

The maids and servants standing nearby held their breath and dared not make a sound, but they looked at Ren Yaoqi and Ren Yaohua with some nervousness in their eyes.

Ren Yaohua stared at Ren Yaoqi with a cold gaze. Seeing that after being slapped, she just covered her cheek and pursed her lips and looked at her without saying a word, without rushing over to slap her back. Although she felt a little strange, the grievances she had suffered in these days made the hatred in her heart prevail, and she raised her hand without saying a word to slap her again.

At this time, the door curtain of the main room moved again, and a tall and slender nanny in her forties with slightly gray hair came out.

Her face changed when she saw the confrontation between the two people in the corridor. Seeing that Ren Yaohua was about to take action, she quickly dodged and hugged Ren Yaoqi in her arms to protect her. She said to Ren Yaohua with a serious face: "Third sister, we just returned home today. What are you doing? Don't forget that the madam is still sick." At the same time, she secretly winked at Ren Yaohua.

Ren Yaohua saw the anxiety and worry in the nanny's eyes, and thinking that her mother was still sick, she gritted her teeth and put her hand down, but her eyes were still cold when she looked at Ren Yaoqi.

Ren Yaoqi saw the interaction between the two of them. On the surface, Nanny Zhou seemed to be protecting her from being beaten by Ren Yaohua, but when she hugged her arms tightly, she was actually holding her arms as well, preventing her from moving. This was to prevent her from rushing to seek revenge on Ren Yaohua.

"Fifth sister, please stop making a fuss. The Madam is sick. Please go in and see her." Nanny Zhou said to Ren Yaoqi with a stern face.

Ren Yaoqi nodded and signaled Nanny Zhou to let her go.

Nanny Zhou originally thought that she would have to spend some time to persuade Ren Yaoqi, but she didn't expect that Ren Yaoqi seemed to easily admit his loss. She couldn't help but be stunned, and then she looked at Ren Yaoqi's expression carefully.

Ren Yaoqi covered his face with his hands and lowered his eyes slightly, without showing much emotion on his face.

Nanny Zhou tried to slowly let go of her hand, and as expected, Ren Yaoqi did not make any other moves. She just walked around Ren Yaohua, lifted the curtain, and entered the main room.

The overall layout of Ziwei Courtyard is short in width and long in depth, so although it can be considered a large courtyard with three entrances, there are only three main rooms. Fortunately, the rooms are very spacious.

The central main room was the main hall, the eastern side room was used for receiving guests, and by the window, a large kang (kang bed) with a kang table was used for daily meals. The western side room was the bedroom, and further in was a toilet with a door facing north, allowing for hot water to be brought in from the backyard in the third courtyard.

Ren Yaoqi walked straight to the west side room. There was a spacious bed with intricate carvings next to the north wall. The newly replaced red silk curtains were hung on the copper hooks on the bedposts. A woman in her thirties was lying on the bed.

The woman had an oval face, thick hair, and a very beautiful face, but her complexion was a sickly pale color and her lips were pale. Perhaps because she liked to frown habitually, there were some faint "chuan"-shaped wrinkles between her eyebrows, which made her originally young face look older.

"Mother..." Ren Yaoqi walked gently to the bedside, looked at the woman who showed her sorrow even with her eyes closed, and called out softly with sobs.

Her voice was quiet, but the woman on the bed seemed to sense something, twitched her eyelashes, and opened her eyes. She had a pair of charming almond-shaped eyes, and Ren Yaohua's eyes were exactly like hers.

She seemed very sleepy, but when she saw Ren Yaoqi clearly, she smiled gently, waved at her and called out, "Qi'er? Come here and let mother see if you've grown taller."

Ren Yaoqi walked quickly forward, knelt down on the corridor outside the bed in the open hall, buried his face in Li's chest and cried.
