Chapter 40 Test
Wen Weizhu forced a smile and stood up.
Using the excuse that he was full, he left first.
She had only eaten a few bites, but if she stayed any longer, she worried that she wouldn't be able to control her emotions and that Meng Lingge would notice something was wrong, thus alerting Meng Lingge. So she had no choice but to leave in a huff.
Her leaving early was against the rules, but now no one was pointing out her mistake. Everyone had their own agenda and was afraid of not behaving naturally enough.
After finally finishing breakfast, Princess Anshun looked at Wen Zhiming and said softly, "Mo'er, didn't you used to enjoy going to the military camp with Kehao? There's riding and archery practice today, why don't you go and have some fun?"
Like Prince Anshun, Wen Kehao was skilled in both literature and martial arts. He preferred the military camp and, despite being only fourteen years old, was already a centurion, enjoying great popularity in the army.
Before he got married, Wen Zhiming often went to the military camp with Wen Kehao. He didn't know much, but he was happy to watch the army practice. He never missed the archery practice, because his sword often hit the bullseye, which drew praise from the soldiers.
Upon hearing about the archery and horseback riding practice, his eyes lit up instantly, but when he thought of Meng Lingge, he immediately shook his head, "I'm not going, I want to stay home with my wife."
While he was at home, his wife was almost kidnapped.
Wouldn't it be more dangerous if he left?
Princess Anshun was filled with mixed feelings when she saw how dependent he was on Meng Lingge. She patiently advised, "Mo'er, be good. What kind of man clings to his wife every day? It's been several days now. You've been by Lingge's side every day. She doesn't have time to go shopping for jewelry or to go shopping with her girlfriends."
Upon hearing the words "shopping," Wen Zhiming became even more displeased.
"Wherever my wife wants to go, I will accompany her. I will not go anywhere else, I will just stay with my wife."
“You child…” Princess Anshun sighed, “You can’t be so willful. You are the heir of the Anshun Prince’s Mansion, and your mother cannot let you act recklessly.”
Since Wen Zhimo fell ill, Princess Anshun had no demands on him and only wanted him to live happily. Now, in order to find an excuse to send him away, she had to bring up these meaningless words against her will.
Thinking about it makes me feel sad.
Seeing that Wen Zhiming remained unmoved, he could only turn to Meng Lingge for help.
Meng Lingge didn't know why Princess Anshun insisted on sending Wen Zhiming to the military camp, but she didn't doubt Princess Anshun's maternal love for Wen Zhiming. She turned to Wen Zhiming and said, "Husband, the military camp is a place for men to strengthen their bodies and learn skills. If you practice well there, you will be able to protect me. I will wait for you to come back from the manor."
Wen Zhiming's expression softened, but he was still worried. "Then my wife will come with me. We'll practice together and come back together."
"Nonsense! This is a military camp, how could a woman like Lingge go there? Kehao brought you along only because of your status." Princess Anshun's tone was already impatient.
Mo'er is so inseparable from Meng Lingge. If Meng Lingge remains loyal to him, it's not a bad thing. But what if Meng Lingge has other intentions...?
Her Mo'er is so pitiful.
Being a mother is not easy, and Mo'er's situation is more complicated than that of other children.
Now she only hopes that she hasn't misjudged Meng Lingge and that Meng Lingge isn't as bad as Wen Weizhu described.
Otherwise, no matter how heartbroken Mo'er was, she would never allow others to bully her child like that.
Wen Zhiming remained stubborn, "If I can go somewhere, why can't my wife go? If my wife can't go, then I won't go either."
Meng Lingge stood up and squatted down next to Wen Zhiming.
"My husband, I also want to go and see the military camp. You should go to the military camp first and train well. When you have the skills and status, you can naturally take me in."
Seeing the anticipation and longing in Meng Lingge's eyes, Wen Zhiming couldn't bear to disappoint her, so he nodded and said, "Then my wife, be a good girl and wait for me at home. I'll go to the military camp now. Once I'm more capable than my third brother and my father, I can take you to the military camp."
After saying that, he turned to Princess Anshun and said, "Mother, please take good care of my wife for me."
"Alright, Mo'er, don't worry, your mother will definitely take good care of you." Princess Anshun nodded in agreement, thinking to herself that if Meng Lingge was sensible, she would definitely treat her like a daughter; but if she treated Mo'er like a fool, then she wouldn't blame her for being ruthless.
Only after receiving her promise did Wen Zhiming feel relieved enough to leave with Wen Kehao.
As soon as they left, Princess Anshun took Meng Lingge's hand and said, "Lingge, you haven't had a proper shopping trip these past few days because Mo'er has been following you around. Today, you can go wherever you want and buy whatever you want. The money will be withdrawn directly from the account."
Meng Lingge obediently replied, "Thank you, Mother."
Wen Zhiming had just instructed Princess Anshun to take care of her, but as soon as Wen Zhiming left, Princess Anshun was in a hurry to send her away, which clearly had a deeper meaning.
Although she didn't know what Princess Anshun was up to, Meng Lingge had a feeling that it was a test for her.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Meng Lingge returned to her courtyard. Qiu Lan closed the door and whispered in her ear, "There was an argument in the dining hall this morning. Before you arrived, the servants outside heard arguing inside, but they couldn't make out the details. The servants inside are all the personal maids of the various masters, and they didn't reveal a word about it. It must have been instructed by the Princess."
Meng Lingge nodded, not surprised by the result.
"Was that the carriage that followed me this morning Wen Weizhu?"
Qiu Lan said, "It is indeed her. There is another matter. I just received a message from Zhang Luo that the Yun Shen Pavilion courtyard has been secretly surrounded. Judging from their attire, they should be people from the Prince's Mansion."
Zhang Luo was a guard in the Meng family. Before Meng Lingge's marriage, Zhang Luo obeyed her every command. Now that Meng Lingge had married into the royal family, she simply had Zhang Luo gather intelligence and run errands for her.
Seeing Meng Lingge frown and remain silent, Qiu Lan couldn't help but remind her, "Our courtyard doesn't seem to have anything unusual, but I suspect that someone is secretly monitoring us."
Meng Lingge smiled slightly and stood up.
"Tell someone to prepare a carriage. Dongqing and I will go out again."
Qiu Lan grabbed her.
“Miss, in my opinion, it’s probably Wen Weizhu who complained about you to the Princess. They’re probably just waiting for you to make a mistake. You should stay in the manor and not go anywhere for safety.”
Meng Lingge: "They've already prepared the internet, and so many people are waiting. If I don't go out, wouldn't I be wasting all their hard work?"
Qiu Lan wanted to persuade her again, but Meng Lingge patted her hand and said, "Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
She wasn't sure before, but now that she heard the guards had surrounded Yun Shen Pavilion, how could she not understand?
She was indeed safe hiding inside the mansion, but Su Leyan would be under constant surveillance.
Moreover, once the seeds of doubt are sown, if they cannot find out the results, there will be no more trust.
