Chapter 41 Disparity
Princess Anshun was restless ever since Meng Lingge left.
The two concubines stayed in her room to drink tea, ostensibly to keep her company and chat, but actually to wait for Meng Lingge's movements, afraid of missing this lively event.
Wen Weizhu kept her head held high, constantly watching the outside movements. Even the slightest rustle would make her extremely tense.
In truth, Wen Weizhu still felt that this method was not fair enough.
She had already witnessed Meng Lingge keeping a lover, but the princess was still unwilling to arrest and punish Meng Lingge directly. Instead, she insisted on listening to her third brother, that cold-blooded blockhead. What if Meng Lingge stopped looking for a lover for the time being? Were they just supposed to keep waiting like this?
This is too torturous.
At this moment, Granny Chu walked in from outside and said softly, "Your Highness, the Crown Princess has gone out."
Granny Chu looked anxious and said uneasily, "I think the Crown Princess is just going out for a normal stroll. Your Highness, please don't overthink it."
Although the Crown Prince and Crown Princess had only been married for a few days, Granny Chu still felt that the Crown Princess was not a fickle woman, and that the Third Miss must have misunderstood.
It is not easy for the prince to get married, and she does not want his marriage to be affected by the suspicions of others.
Wen Weizhu snorted coldly, "She's only been a disciple for a few days, yet she's already bribed even Granny Chu. She's really got some skills. Tell me, did she only take one maid with her when she went out? Did she head towards East Street?"
"How do you know?" After saying that, Granny Chu guessed what Wen Weizhu was thinking and argued, "Of course the Princess Consort takes a maid with her when she goes out, and this place is closest to East Street, so it doesn't mean there's a problem."
Granny Chu was an old servant of Princess Anshun and highly regarded in the household. However, she did not disregard etiquette because of her status; this was the first time she had ever argued with a young lady in the household.
Wen Weizhu knew the importance of Granny Chu in the household, and since she was in a good mood at the moment, she didn't bother to argue with Granny Chu anymore.
Wen Weizhu raised her hand and said smugly.
"Whether there's a problem or not, it's not up to you, Granny Chu. Your Highness, your sister-in-law is definitely going to the man she's keeping now. You'll see it with your own eyes later, so you can't let her get away with it."
Princess Anshun's face turned ashen. She didn't even glance at Wen Weizhu before turning around and leading her people out.
She was both anxious and angry. Although she had asked Meng Lingge to go out for a walk, Meng Lingge had already rushed out in such a hurry after only the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.
It was as if someone outside was really waiting for her.
The moment she stepped out the door, Princess Anshun had already made up her mind that if Meng Lingge really did something shameful, she would immediately have Mo'er divorce Meng Lingge.
Whether Mo'er likes it or not.
Therefore, Wen Weizhu's words were completely unnecessary. If she had witnessed such a disgraceful situation firsthand, let alone showing favoritism, she probably wouldn't have been able to control her anger and would have rushed up to teach Meng Lingge a lesson herself.
When the two concubines learned that Princess Anshun had gone to catch her in adultery, they immediately rushed to follow her.
Wen Weizhu, like a victorious general, walked at the back with her head held high and chest out.
A large group of people, worried about being discovered by Meng Lingge, deliberately took another route.
When they arrived at their destination, Wen Weizhu found a guard hiding in the shadows and asked in a low voice, "When did the Crown Princess arrive?"
The guard replied, "We just arrived. After arriving, we went into the room with the young master in the courtyard."
"What?" Consort Jiang exclaimed in shock. "This is outrageous! In broad daylight, how can she be so shameless? If this happened in an ordinary family, she would be drowned! Your Highness, Weizhu is only thinking of the Crown Prince, and you still beat her. How should we deal with the Crown Prince's wife who has made such a disgraceful spectacle?"
Wen Weizhu said aggrievedly, "It doesn't matter if I get hit, but I can't let the princess and my elder brother be deceived by my sister-in-law. You should go in and check on them. I won't go in..."
She was an unmarried young woman.
The images inside are too disturbing to contemplate; it's best not to offend her eyes.
Princess Anshun was speechless. She turned around angrily and led a group of people toward the gate of Yun Shen Pavilion.
The courtyard gate wasn't closed, and she pushed it open with her hand. Granny Li, who was guarding the courtyard, came out when she heard the noise and was very puzzled to see a large group of people.
She spends most of her time in this courtyard and doesn't know anyone from the Prince of Anshun's residence.
Who are you?
"Where did this old geezer come from? This is really strange. He even hired someone to keep watch while he's having an affair. Is he going to inform your master? Get out of my way!"
The maidservant beside Consort Jiang wanted to avenge her mistress, so she rushed forward and shoved Granny Li, causing her to stumble.
After no one stopped her, Princess Anshun led her people to the door. Seeing that the door was closed, two strong old women pushed and kicked it open.
The group walked in with righteous expressions, only to be shocked by what they saw inside the room.
There were no adulterers inside, only two women, their clothes neat and their hair perfectly styled, one standing and one sitting, both diligently handling the medicinal herbs in their hands.
The once clean medicinal powder on the table was now a mess because the two old women lost their balance after crashing into the door, with one of them falling onto the table.
Several kinds of medicinal powders were mixed together, and much of it rolled onto the ground.
One of the two women was Meng Lingge, whom they were looking for, while the other was a complete stranger.
"What are you doing? You've spilled the medicine powder that my young lady painstakingly ground..."
With that scream, they realized there was a third woman in the room. She hurried over from the window, looking helpless at the scattered medicinal herbs on the floor.
This woman is Dongqing, Meng Lingge's personal maid.
Everyone was stunned. The situation inside the room was completely different from what they had expected, leaving them at a loss for what to do.
"Mother, Consort Jiang, Consort Chen, what brings you here?"
Meng Lingge put down the medicinal herbs in her hand, her expression calm.
Princess Anshun was both pleased and ashamed. Pointing at Su Leyan, she changed the subject: "Lingge, who is this young lady?"
Meng Lingge pulled Su Leyan to Princess Anshun's side. "Mother, this is Lady Su. She specializes in treating rare and unusual illnesses. Last night, she was bullied, and the Prince and I rescued her. Lady Su is very righteous; upon hearing of the Prince's illness, she worked through the night to prepare medicine. I had some free time today, so I came to help, but unfortunately..."
She paused, then said regretfully, "It's a pity that those two old women, for some reason, rammed the door and ruined all the medicinal herbs they had painstakingly prepared..."
Upon hearing this, the two old women who had been banging on the door turned pale with fright and immediately knelt down to beg for mercy.
They initially thought the Crown Princess was having an affair, so they rushed to break down the door to show their loyalty and to be the first to see the most exciting scene.
This kind of thing doesn't happen every day, and not everyone has the chance to see it.
They got such a good job because of their strength, but now they've become the murderers who ruined the prince's medicinal herbs.
The contrast was too great; they wanted to cry.
