Chapter 4: Grandpa (2/2)

At this moment, Grandpa Jiang wished he could immediately grab a megaphone and shout it out throughout the neighborhood.

His granddaughter came back to visit him again!

Before entering the kitchen, Grandpa Jiang also turned on the air conditioner in the living room.

What seemed like a small gesture deeply touched Jiang Ning.

The older generation is used to being frugal, and even on a 38-degree summer night, they are reluctant to turn on the air conditioner, but they are willing to give the best of everything to their children and grandchildren.

She sat on the sofa, looking around at the layout of the living room.

The small two-bedroom apartment had little furniture, but it was very clean. An orange vest hung on the coat rack by the door; it was Grandpa Jiang's work uniform.

Grandpa Jiang is a man who can't sit still. At 63 years old, he has found a job as a cleaner in the community.

I work from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm every day, with one day off per week, and a monthly salary of 4,000 yuan.

After Jiang Ning got married, in order to save money, Grandpa Jiang rented his room to his coworkers. Fearing that Jiang Ning would have nowhere to stay when she came home, he simply set up a small bed in the living room.

My colleague was hospitalized for a work injury a while ago and is currently recovering in the hospital. Right now, only Grandpa Jiang is staying in the house.

About twenty minutes later, Grandpa Jiang came over with a bowl of fragrant hand-pulled noodles. "Ningning, the noodles are ready."

"Thank you, Grandpa." Jiang Ning took the bowl and began to eat her noodles.

Grandpa Jiang looked at her expectantly, "Ningning, is it delicious?"

"Delicious!" Jiang Ning quickly swallowed the noodles and gave a thumbs up. "My grandfather's hand-pulled noodles are the best in the world."

Grandpa Jiang was instantly satisfied, and smiled with his eyes narrowed, "Then eat more, there's more in the pot."

"Mm." Jiang Ning nodded slightly and continued eating her noodles.

Grandpa Jiang watched his granddaughter eat, his eyes full of heartache. During the year his granddaughter had been in the Cheng family, she must have suffered a lot in order to integrate into high society.

You know, my granddaughter never used to have such good manners when eating.

But now, she even eats so beautifully.

Thinking of his granddaughter's sudden return in the middle of the night, Grandpa Jiang's eyes were full of worry. He carefully considered his words before speaking, "Ningning, did you suffer some injustice at the Cheng family's house?"

Jiang Ning put down her bowl and looked at Grandpa Jiang. "Grandpa, Cheng Zijun and I are divorced."

It was a very simple sentence, but it was like a boulder thrown into a calm lake, creating huge waves and making Grandpa Jiang's eyes widen.

divorce?

Jiang Ning is divorced!

How is that possible?

Grandpa Jiang could hardly believe his own hearing.

After a long while, Grandpa Jiang finally found his voice and asked nervously, "Ningning, did the Cheng family bully you? Ningning, don't be afraid, Grandpa is here. If they dare to bully you, I'll fight them with my life!"

A year ago, Grandpa Jiang objected to his granddaughter marrying Cheng Zijun.

A year later, when Grandpa Jiang learned that his granddaughter had divorced Cheng Zijun, his first reaction was not to think that his granddaughter had brought it upon herself, but to stand up for her.

Jiang Ning looked at Grandpa Jiang and said softly, "Grandpa, don't worry, no one can bully your granddaughter. I was too foolish before, mistaking that scumbag Cheng Zijun for a treasure. Now I've woken up, and naturally I want to stay away from him and live a better life."

Hearing his granddaughter say that she hadn't been bullied, Grandpa Jiang breathed a sigh of relief and then asked, "Then, so you're really divorced?"

Grandpa Jiang still found it unbelievable.

In his view, his granddaughter was absolutely in love with Cheng Zijun. During her hunger strike, she didn't eat or drink anything for two whole days. How could she possibly divorce him just because she loved him so much?

Jiang Ning didn't explain much, but simply took out the divorce agreement from her bag. "Look at this. I think you're right. At my age, I should study hard, get into a good university, pursue my dreams, and live up to my youth and myself."

Nineteen years old.

The best years of one's life.

She should use her talents to realize her dreams, not get married early.

Upon seeing the divorce agreement, Grandpa Jiang realized that his granddaughter had not lied to him, and at that moment, his hands were trembling.

Jiang Ning looked at Grandpa Jiang and said, word by word, "Grandpa, I was ignorant and willful before, which broke your heart. I am sorry for the upbringing you have given me over the years! From now on, I will study hard and make sure you have a good life."
