About a week later, after her PE class, when she was taking the volleyball to the equipment room, she saw Du Shangyao and several girls smoking.
In today's society, it's normal for women to smoke.
But at that time, Shang Yao was only 15 years old.
Smoking is equivalent to being a delinquent girl.
But that has nothing to do with her!
Forget about smoking, even if she smokes 'that', it's none of her business!
She planned to leave before Shang Yao noticed her, but as soon as she turned around, she heard Shang Yao call her name.
Fearing that she would reveal her smoking habit, Shang Yao walked up to her and gave her a special warning.
She thought the matter was over, but to her surprise, the homeroom teacher found out about it and called the parents of the girls who were smoking, including Shang Yao!
Shang Yao believed that she had told the homeroom teacher about this, and after storming out of the office, she dragged her to a secluded place and beat her to vent her anger. She desperately tried to explain that she hadn't told the teacher, but Shang Yao didn't believe her at all.
She curled up on the ground, covering her head as she endured the punches and kicks, tears streaming down her face. Humiliation and anger welled up inside her. She clenched her fists tightly; she wanted to fight back, but thinking of the consequences, she gritted her teeth and endured it...
Shang Yao didn't dare call Shang Shichang, so she called Shang Yan instead.
Although Shang Yan is only 20 years old, he exudes a mature demeanor and a commanding presence that makes people dare not underestimate him.
He went to see the homeroom teacher, and then he saw her!
She assumed that he had believed Shang Yao's words and thought that she was the one who had betrayed him, so he came to settle accounts with her.
So her first words were: "I didn't snitch."
Shang Yan said expressionlessly, "I know you didn't snitch. I came to you to ask you—don't tell your family about this! Also, I apologize for what Shang Yao did for you: I'm sorry!"
Shang Yan's sudden apology left Yu Sheng completely bewildered. Before she could react, Shang Yan had already turned and left. As she watched his retreating figure, her vision began to blur. She touched her eyes and found her hand covered in tears…
Suddenly recalling all of this, Yu Sheng's eyes still felt hot. Afraid that Shang Yan would notice, she lowered her head even further than before and whispered, "Of course I remember!"
Shang Yan flicked his cigarette ash and asked, "Do you know how I taught Yao Yao a lesson?"
"Disciplined?" Yu Sheng looked at Shang Yan in surprise. "Did you discipline her?"
Shang Yan looked at the crimson at the corners of Yu Sheng's eyes, and his broken heart clenched painfully.
He thought that her mentioning of the past reminded her of the grievances she had suffered, which was why her eyes welled up with tears.
Suddenly, I felt very guilty.
I blame myself for bringing this up, and even more so for not teaching Shang Yao well.
Shang Yan tried to suppress his guilt with nicotine. He even brought the cigarette to his lips, but he couldn't smoke it. The scar on his chest was burning... the pain made his hand holding the cigarette tremble...
Seeing that he seemed off, Yu Sheng asked, "Brother, are you alright?"
"fine!"
Shang Yan retorted, stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray, rubbed his face, and continued, "I bought Yao Yao two packs of cigarettes. She was overjoyed that I didn't scold her and even bought her cigarettes. She hugged my neck and said I was the best to her."
Yu Sheng had always known that Shang Yan doted on his younger sister, but she hadn't expected it to be to this extent. She teased, "You really are very good to her!"
Shang Yan chuckled: "She is my only family in this world, so of course I have to treat her well. I told her she can smoke right now."
Yu Sheng asked curiously, "Did she smoke?"
"She said she was embarrassed to smoke in front of me, and I said it was okay, no need to be embarrassed, I'm your brother. After I said that, I not only opened the cigarette for her, but also lit it for her."
Yu Sheng was speechless, unsure of what to say for a moment.
Shang Yan seemed to see through her thoughts and asked, "Aren't you speechless?"
Yu Sheng tucked her hair behind her ear and replied, "A little."
Shang Yan smiled and continued, "When she was enjoying her cigarettes, I told her that as long as she finished both packs in front of me, I would never interfere with her smoking again. But if she didn't finish them, she wouldn't be allowed to touch a single cigarette in the future!"
Yu Sheng initially thought that Shang Yan buying cigarettes for Shang Yao was a genuine way of spoiling her, but she didn't expect it to be a way of disciplining her. Although the outcome was predictable, she still couldn't help but ask, "Has she finished smoking them?"
"When I was halfway through the first pack, I couldn't smoke anymore. I cried and told them I was wrong and that I would never do it again."
Yu Sheng couldn't help but laugh. "If Shang Yao knew you told me about her embarrassing moments, she definitely wouldn't let you off the hook."
Would you betray me?
"Of course not."
Shang Yan didn't say anything more, but instead pressed the lighter intermittently, his eyes fixed on the orange-red flame that shot out.
Yu Sheng didn't know what he was thinking, and felt that he hadn't finished speaking, so she waited quietly.
Just as she expected, a few seconds later he said, "Yu Sheng, do you know why I don't smoke, and why I don't allow Yao Yao to smoke?"
Yu Sheng initially thought that Shang Yan's abstaining from smoking was simply a strict requirement for himself, but hearing his question, she realized there must be another reason. She shook her head and said, "I don't know."
Shang Yan didn't say anything, holding down the lighter with one hand and unbuttoning his shirt with the other.
This action startled Yu Sheng, who lowered her head and asked, "Brother, why are you taking off your clothes?"
