Chapter 189 Childhood Abuse

Shang Yan didn't answer Yu Sheng. After unbuttoning the first button, he unbuttoned the second and third, and then with a 'thud,' he threw the lighter in his hand onto the coffee table.

The loud noise startled Yu Sheng, who instinctively looked up at Shang Yan and saw him tear open one side of his black shirt, exposing his honey-colored chest muscles. Yu Sheng didn't dare to look and quickly lowered her eyes again.

She had barely made the movement when Shang Yan commanded, "Raise your head!"

Yu Sheng said embarrassedly, "Brother, you..."

"I'm telling you to lift your head!!"

Shang Yan's emphasized tone made it impossible for her to resist. After a brief internal struggle, she looked up at him, but dared not look around, only at his face.

Look here!

Shang Yan pointed to his chest with his other finger.

Yu Sheng didn't know what he meant, but she was already feeling extremely uncomfortable.

She glanced in the direction he was pointing and asked, "What are you looking at?"

"Do you see that scar?"

When Yu Sheng heard his question, she looked in the direction he was pointing and found that there was indeed a scar the size of a fingernail!

So... he took off his clothes to show her this scar!

You should have said so earlier! You scared her!

She breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I see, that's how I did it?"

They're talking about smoking. Could that scar be from a cigarette burn?

But the burn from the cigarette butt shouldn't be that big.

As she analyzed the situation to herself, Shang Yan provided the answer: "It was burned by a cigarette butt."

It really was burned by a cigarette butt!

Yu Sheng was surprised, and then looked at the scar again to ask the question that had been bothering her.

Shang Yan said, "It was summer when I was burned, and the wound festered, which is why it's so big!"

Yu Sheng was silent for a moment, then asked in confusion, "How did you get burned by a cigarette butt?"

Shang Yan licked his lips, revealing a cryptic smile, then reached for a cigarette. Just as his hand was about to touch the cigarette pack, he paused and turned to the lighter beside him.

He picked up the lighter and, as before, pressed it a few times absentmindedly before giving a somewhat eerie yet heartbreaking smile: "My mom... got burned!"

Yu Sheng couldn't believe what she was hearing and carefully confirmed with him, "Your mom... is it hot?"

Shang Yan turned his eyes, which had been fixed on the lighter, to Yu Sheng. His eyes, whether reddened by the flame or for some other reason, were almost bleeding. He nodded with a smile that tugged at the heartstrings: "Yes, she burned me when I was six..."

Yu Sheng looked utterly astonished!

Although Yu Jing would sometimes hit or scold her when she was little, she never went too far. Isn't this child abuse by her mother? Does her mother have mental problems? Otherwise, how could she do such a thing?

Yu Sheng didn't know much about Shang Yan's mother either, only that Yu Jing had mentioned that her name was Liu Yun and that she was a painter.

After giving birth to two children for Shang Shichang, Liu Yun was unwilling to be a housewife, so she filed for divorce and went abroad to pursue art, and never returned.

When Liu Yun divorced Shang Shichang, Shang Yao had just been born. In other words, Shang Yao was raised by Shang Yan, which is similar to how she and Xiao Cheng were raised together.

Therefore, she could understand when Shang Shichang said that Shang Yan wanted to wait for Shang Yao to return before holding the banquet!

However, what she didn't expect was that the man she saw as as high and mighty as the moon in the sky had been abused by his own mother during his childhood!

Yu Sheng suddenly felt a pang of unease. She hesitated for a moment before asking, "Why?"

"Because...I discovered she was...cheating..."

Shang Yan was still smiling when he said this, but his scarlet eyes were churning with a torrent of tears.

Looking at him, Yu Sheng suddenly felt that she wasn't looking at 28-year-old Shang Yan, but 6-year-old Shang Yan. She suddenly wanted to hug him. Perhaps because her own childhood was unhappy, she could empathize with others who also had unhappy childhoods.

At this moment, her mind was free of the comfort of their sibling relationship and all sorts of chaotic thoughts. She got up and sat down beside him, pulled him into her arms, and patted his back gently to comfort him.

Shang Yan has never exposed his childhood trauma to anyone, not even Shang Yao. All along, he has armed himself with cold steel armor, making himself impervious to swords and spears, but he is just too tired, too tired!

He hadn't planned to tell Yu Sheng these things, but he couldn't help wanting to confide in her, to ask for her care. Perhaps, if he didn't say something, he would break down...

Under Yu Sheng's comforting words, Shang Yan finally let down his sleeve and shed tears he had held back for 22 years.

Even now, his last shred of dignity was still at play, and he forced himself not to let Yu Sheng find out.

After calming down a bit, he continued, "Back then, Yaoyao had just been born. One night, I was woken up by her crying. Although she slept with my mother, I was afraid something might have happened to her, so I ran to my mother's room. I pushed open the door and saw..."

Seeing this, Yu Sheng knew without Shang Yan needing to say more. Her voice choked with emotion: "Don't force yourself. If it's too painful, don't say anything!"

It's really painful!

Every time I recall that scene, it feels like my flesh is being cut out and my heart is being ripped out!

But he has to tell the truth today, because that secret has been hidden in his heart for 22 years and has long since rotted and stinked!

He closed his eyes, forcibly suppressing the surging emotions in his heart, and continued, "When I saw my mother and our driver in bed, I was only six years old at the time, but I vaguely knew what they were doing."

I was terrified. I turned around and ran back home, hiding under the covers. A little while later, my mother came in. She warned me that I was not allowed to tell anyone what I had just seen, or she would never forgive me. I nodded fearfully.
