Chapter 141 Mermaids and Dolphins

"We still need to go check out the puddle."

Ming Dahai was unwilling to give up. Having caught big yellow croakers before, he was not willing to pick up these scraps.

"This one is good."

Ming Dahai walked ahead and found a puddle surrounded by rocks, but the water didn't seem deep; he could vaguely see the rocks in the water.

"Wait a minute, Dad, let me see."

Mingjing used the net to scoop up the puddle, but didn't catch anything. She scooped again, but still nothing.

It cannot be ruled out that something may have gotten into the cracks in the rocks.

Mingjing grabbed a handful of chicken intestines and threw them into the puddle. He picked up a thick tree branch from the ground and stuck it into the soil next to it, preparing to come and inspect it tomorrow.

"Alright, it's getting late. Let's eat first. We still have time this afternoon."

Mingjing walked to a flat area and sat on a rock, taking out the food that Sun Yunmei had prepared: flatbread and cold dishes.

There's braised pig's head, cold jellyfish salad, red sausage, and spicy kelp. The meat patties are soft, chewy, and sweet, and topped with the soybean paste from the bag—Sun Yunmei's exclusive recipe.

Although many locals eat soybean paste, Sun Yunmei's is especially delicious.

The group sat together, and Mingjing gazed at the sea, a glint of light flashing in his eyes.

A graceful arc leaped across the sea surface, its golden tail slapping the water before it jumped up again a moment later.

Mingjing frowned. How dare the mermaid follow her? Wasn't she afraid of being discovered by humans?

A great white shark also leaped out of the water along with the mermaid.

"Holy crap, that...that's a mermaid?" Mingliang pointed at the sea, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets, and he dropped the pancake in his hand in fright.

He pointed excitedly at the sea, "Mermaids! There really are mermaids!"

Yes! Yes!

Ming Dahai stared intently at the sea for a moment, his lips turning purple. "Sea Goddess!"

After saying this, he excitedly knelt down facing the sea.

He had long heard from the old man that there were mermaids in the sea, beautiful in appearance and kind-hearted, who often helped fishermen and were living goddesses of the sea.

But those were just legends. Seeing it with my own eyes today, who wouldn't be excited?

"Mingjing, is this the Sea Goddess who protects you?" Mingliang shouted excitedly, wanting to get closer and see more clearly.

"Um."

Mingjing remained calm, but inwardly worried. They had been discovered after all. If more people found out, even the Sea Goddess would be taken in for research.

"Dad, this matter cannot be told to outsiders."

"I know, I know," Ming Dahai kowtowed, then looked towards the sea.

The mermaid leaped and swam quickly in the sea, followed by a shark, and a flock of seagulls followed in the sky.

"There are sharks chasing the Sea Goddess!" Mingliang excitedly walked forward a little further, wishing he could go up and make fish food to attract attention.

"More than one."

Mingjing vaguely saw a group of sharks chasing after the mermaid.

Last time, the shark was clearly afraid of the mermaid, so what's wrong with it today?

Suddenly, a beautiful song came from the sea, and the shark stopped moving.

The mermaid circled the shark, her melodious song echoing across the sea. The shark seemed to be performing some kind of ritual, forming a circle before scattering in all directions.

"Dad, do you think this is a gift from the Sea Goddess?"

Mingliang thought it must be the Sea Goddess holding a meeting with the sharks, instructing them to drive the fish into the traps and trawls.

“It must be,” Ming Dahai said, his eyes filled with anticipation.

Suddenly, he became worried again.

There are hooks over there. What if the Sea Goddess accidentally gets caught on one of the hooks? Not only will the entire hook be destroyed, but you'll also offend the Sea Goddess.

Mingjing was momentarily distracted by the sight of the mermaid leaping on the sea surface.

She was also afraid that the hook might accidentally trap the mermaid.

Could it be that today's luck is about catching a mermaid?

Mingjing dared not even think of throwing down the bucket of fish in her hand.

"Dad, the Goddess of the Sea is calling me. I'll go see her and come back in a bit."

Before Ming Dahai could react, Ming Jing plunged into the sea and swam towards the deeper water.

She had just swum into the deep water when she was so frightened by what she saw that she dared not breathe.

A group of great white sharks are attacking a mother and calf dolphin, while a mermaid sings nearby to distract the sharks.

Generally speaking, the natural enemies of great white sharks are killer whales and dolphins, both of which are social animals. So if a shark is left alone, the two will fight to the death.

Great white sharks can grow to over ten meters in length and weigh over ten tons. They are ferocious, and when a dozen or so gather together, even the most powerful creature cannot escape.

The mother and calf dolphins in front of us must have been separated from their pod. Without the protection of their group, they would naturally be bullied by the great white sharks.

Mingjing then realized that the mermaids had been stopping the great white shark from harming the dolphins, and the sharks had been driven away.

But for some reason, these sharks are no longer afraid of the mermaid; instead, they are trying to attack her and gradually surround her.

The dolphins emitted piercing cries, seemingly calling for their companions.

As the great white shark approached, the mermaid stood firmly in front of the dolphin mother and calf, while Mingjing anxiously checked the fishing tackle shop system.

A voice changer caught Mingjing's eye; it was software that could mimic the sounds of fish, similar to a honeybee, and cost 500 points.

Mingjing bought it without hesitation, picked up the little bee, selected the dolphin channel, recorded dolphin sounds, and played them aloud.

Soon, a group of dolphins responded from the little bee.

The great white sharks scattered and fled.

Mingjing breathed a sigh of relief and swam towards the mother and calf dolphins, hanging the little bee around their necks. With it, the great white sharks wouldn't dare to approach easily.

The mermaid gently stroked Mingjing's cheek, then turned and disappeared into the depths of the ocean with the dolphin mother and calf.

Before leaving, Mingjing noticed that the mermaid's stomach seemed to be injured, which was why the sharks weren't afraid of her.

Mingjing returned to shore, and Mingliang curiously pulled her along, "So? What did the Sea Goddess say?"

"I said I'd bless you to be selected as a sailor, and today I'm giving you a big fish." Mingjing came ashore and rubbed the water off the corner of her clothes.

"real?"

Mingliang suddenly realized how lucky he was to be born with talent, and at that moment he felt that he had reached the pinnacle of his life.

"Alright, alright, you guys eat quickly, then get back to work," Ming Dahai said happily, turning his head to look at the sea every now and then.

He didn't even bother to eat, quickly shoveling down a few bites of flatbread before getting up to flip over the stones.

As the tide receded, the area where the bergamot shells had been found last time remained largely empty. Despite searching for a long time, no seafood was discovered.

Ming Dahai gradually became depressed.

"Mingjing, do you think those things are all in the cage?"

"Dad, we've searched this place thoroughly, but there's nothing here. Let's go look around elsewhere."

Mingjing sighed as she gazed at the island that stretched as far as the eye could see.

She couldn't help but wonder if luck was only on one island, as she had had bad luck before when beachcombing, but today's was unusually bad.

Once aboard, Ming Dahai turned the ship around and headed towards another small island. As the ship sailed into the middle of the sea, something seemed amiss.

"Dad, there's a fish!" Mingliang stared at the sea, his attention drawn to the faintly visible figure beside the boat.

The figure on the seabed is enormous, appearing to be at least two meters tall.

"It's not a great white shark, is it?"
