“Alright, let’s call it that. Full Warehouse is fine,” Ming Dahai interjected.
Mingjing didn't say anything. The waves weren't big today, and the Zhifu ship moved forward smoothly, arriving at the island from last time in an hour.
Before the tide had receded, Mingjing saw that new bees had moved into the same beehive as before, and thought she would harvest it again in a few days.
The boat stopped in the deep water, and the group discussed setting fish traps around the island.
There were still a few traps that hadn't been baited yet, so the group decided to put the traps in first, and then throw them in when they were ready to put in the remaining ones.
Minghai slowed down the ship, and Mingjing and Mingliang circled the island, placing a fish trap every hundred meters, with balloons tied to it, just like last time.
After circling the island once, Mingjing left the remaining fish traps unbaited, casually grabbing a handful of entrails and tossing them into the traps before tossing them back into the sea.
"Mingjing, where should we put this big iron cage?"
All the fish traps had been thrown away, leaving only a large iron cage. Mingjing thought for a moment and then told Mingdahai to sail to a more distant place.
As the ship sailed closer to the coast, Mingjing saw a high, protruding rock on the island. Even when the tide rose, it wouldn't submerge the tall rock.
Mingjing hung a string of pig intestines and cow heart and lungs in the iron cage and then gently threw the cage onto the seabed.
She refused to believe that with such a high luck stat, she couldn't get something so valuable. Even if it was a rare species, exchanging it for high points was still a gain.
After abandoning the cage, Ming Dahai drove his boat around the nearby islands. Since the tide had not completely receded, they could only find larger islands to go beachcombing.
"Dad, Mingjing doesn't actually need to be too complicated. We just need to set up a few fixed water pits, and then pump them out every few days. Wouldn't it be great to put in a fish trap?"
Mingjing suddenly thought this idea was good. With her luck, she could find seafood as soon as she went out, which could save a lot of time.
"Hmm, not bad, let's do it this way from now on."
Ming Dahai praised Mingliang for the first time, and felt that his son was getting better.
“Let’s start today, Dad. See which island we can disembark at. We’ll go explore the pools. The pool on that island last time was big and deep. Let’s go there.”
"Yes, I know."
Ming Da steered the boat, his eyes fixed on the sea, searching for a small island.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and bait the hooks." Mingjing nudged the dazed Mingliang and followed his gaze to the sea.
"Strange, I think I just saw a mermaid."
Bright said to himself.
"Don't talk nonsense, hurry up and get it done."
Mingjing recalled the last time she saw a mermaid and caught so many sea catfish. Could this be another gift from the mermaid?
The fishhook is threaded onto the fishing net, and to avoid getting it messy, Mingjing has to stand up to hook it each time.
The fishing hook was quickly prepared, and there was still more than half a bag of entrails left. Mingjing planned to find a puddle later, throw it in, and check back next time to see if there was anything left.
The ship sailed around the sea for half an hour, and then the Minghai ship gradually slowed down.
"Mingjing, this is a good spot. The wind is favorable today, and I think the tide will completely recede in a while. The east side is higher than the west side. If we get off here, we'll definitely have some fish when they come back."
"Alright."
Mingjing didn't understand either, but if Mingdahai said it was okay, then it was okay.
“Mingliang, you steer the boat. Mingjing and I will set the fishing nets. The boat speed must be neither too fast nor too slow.”
Ming Dahai stood up and slowly cast the net into the water. If the boat was too fast, the hook would get caught in the net; if the boat was too slow, the net would become too loose and tangled, making it difficult to maneuver.
Each time the fishing net is set, there is a piece of gauze at the bottom of the net, with a large stone tied to it, to try to make the net sink into the sea.
This kind of fishing net can catch many large or fierce fish. Thinking of the mermaid I just saw, today is the day.
"Dad, when can we collect this?"
"It will take two or three hours. The water here isn't deep, only a few dozen meters. We can just bring the fishing net in later."
Mingjing remembered that in her previous life, when she followed the fishermen to the sea to learn about fish conditions, the fishermen used this kind of thing to catch fish.
It is said that there are upper, middle and lower layers. The plankton in the upper layer is actually not worth much, so fishermen usually put them in the middle or lower layers to catch big fish.
They wove this fishing net by hand, and it's about fifty meters wide. If it touches the bottom, they'll have to bring it all up when they reel it in. If there's nothing there, they'll have to bait it again, which seems like a lot of trouble.
"Dad, the sun is up," Mingjing said, pointing to the sunrise.
The sun slowly rises on the horizon, its golden rays bathing the sea in vibrant light, and everything is full of life.
The fishing net was over two thousand meters long, with a balloon tied to the end. Ming Dahai set out the net, and Ming Jing helped out. They had been working for two hours and were still not finished.
Mingjing straightened his back; it was very sore.
"Mingliang, you take over," Ming Dahai stood up to relieve Mingliang and instructed, "Don't throw it out forcefully, be sure to do it gently and smoothly."
Following Ming Dahai's instructions, Mingliang slowly began to cast his fishing line.
"Dad, how many fish do you think this can hold?"
"I don't know. If the fish are good, I estimate I can catch forty or fifty pounds of fish, and there are all kinds of fish, but sometimes it's not so good."
Ming Dahai believed that Mingjing must have something on this voyage, and he stared at the fishing nets with a smile on his face.
"Forty or fifty pounds?"
Mingjing hadn't expected this; she thought it would be packed.
"Well, that's about it. Fish do have brains, but we've basically got a catch."
Mingjing didn't know how many fishhooks she could get. She made more than five hundred fishhooks. If it didn't work, she would stop making them.
After all, it takes several days to do it once, which is too tiring.
But if she has money in the future, she will buy a ship in the system that can carry such things. She had seen before that it costs 80,000 points, which she does not yet have.
So if it works this time, she doesn't mind working hard.
After setting out the fishing net, the two finally had some free time. Mingjing then began to study the fishing rod, as she had also made a fishing rod-like multi-hook rig.
Similar to an umbrella, it is covered with fishing hooks and lines, and can catch several fish at once simply by being placed in the sea.
Fishing tackle shops also sell these things, but they're generally too advanced for her, so she doesn't dare take them out.
Let's try this thing first.
"Mingjing, shall we go back to that island we visited last time? The one where they make honey, there are several puddles there."
Mingjing nodded, and Minghai's large ship sailed directly in that direction.
I had a good catch when I threw fish traps there last time, so I'm sure I'll have some goodies when I go to the sump this time.
The boat stopped at the shore not far away. Ming Dahai and Ming Liang got off the boat carrying a water pump, while Ming Jing followed behind carrying beachcombing tools.
"Dad, I still have a lot of bait left. Let's find a puddle, throw it in, and check back in a few days to see if there's any fish left."
"Okay, you decide."
Ming Dahai happily carried the water pump to the pond where he had caught tiger crabs last time.
The water pump stopped working within two minutes of being put into use.
Ming Dahai kicked the bag twice in anger, cursing, "You get what you pay for."
"Dad, let's leave this puddle," Mingjing said, grabbing two handfuls of chicken intestines and beef lungs and throwing them in.
There were quite a few things in this pit last time, so let's leave it alone for now and come back to check it in a couple of days.
"Dad, let's go take a look over there."
As the tide recedes, large areas of rocky mudflats are exposed on the island. There's nothing particularly special about the island today; crabs, sea urchins, and starfish are also scarce.
The most expensive item is probably the geoduck clam. These are the easiest to find when beachcombing. They're not very big here, but they can still cost several tens of yuan.
"Damn it, what's on this island?" Mingliang cursed as he picked up Moon Shells from the sand, his back aching from exhaustion.
