Mingjing jumped out of bed excitedly. Last time, when her luck value was a few hundred, she earned more than ten thousand. This time, with a thousand, she was really going to make a fortune.
Without hesitation, she bought five extra-large octagonal cages from the fishing tackle shop, spending all her points.
Carrying six octagonal cages, Mingjing got out of bed and went out.
As soon as she opened the door, an octopus blew directly into her face. Mingjing leaned against the door to keep her balance, then grabbed the octopus off her face and threw it into the washbasin.
She's going to the beach now, and while the wind is strong, she'll throw the traps into the mangroves. Once the typhoon passes, they'll definitely burst open.
"Mingjing, what are you doing standing at the door so late at night?" Ming Dahai came out wearing a coat.
He couldn't sleep because of the noise outside, and the house was leaking, so he thought of checking if the roof had been blown off. He was also worried that the children might be scared.
That's when he got up to check on the situation at home.
"Dad, I want to go to the beach. The weather should be perfect for fishing. Just now in my dream, the Sea Goddess told me to go to the beach to find her."
Mingjing didn't tell Mingdahai about setting up the fish traps, and the six octagonal traps were impossible to explain.
"The Sea Goddess really came looking for you? The waves at the beach are at least twenty meters high, and there's a Force 10 gale. It's too dangerous; you can't go!"
"It's alright, Dad. I went to sea during a torrential downpour last time and I came back safely. Goddess of the Sea, please protect me."
"No, you must tell the Sea Goddess to wait. This weather is too dangerous. What if you go and don't come back..."
Ming Dahai immediately stopped talking and pulled Mingjing back into the house.
With no other option, Mingjing had to obediently go back inside.
When Mingda Customs arrived, they saw the broken tiles scattered all over the ground and worried whether his dilapidated house could withstand the typhoon.
The wind outside grew stronger and stronger, so strong that Ming Dahai was almost blown away. He clung to the door frame and shouted into the house, "Mingjing, Mingliang! Mingyue!"
"Come out quickly!"
The three of them came out immediately upon hearing the sound.
"Mingliang, please bring out the ladder for me. The house is leaking because of the typhoon. Mingjing, please bring over the plastic sheet to keep out the rain!"
"good!"
One of them carried a ladder, and the other carried a tarpaulin.
The ladder wobbled precariously against the eaves. Mingliang held onto it, saying, "Dad, be careful!"
Mingliang was momentarily dazed, then nodded and struggled to climb the ladder with the tarpaulin.
The higher he climbed, the more unstable Ming Dahai's center of gravity became. He held a tarpaulin and gripped the ladder tightly with one hand, the rain blurring his vision.
The roof tiles had been mostly torn off, revealing a few white supporting beams, and tarpaulins were being painstakingly applied to the missing tiles.
"Mingjing, Mingliang, tie the tarpaulin to the ground stake!"
This is an old house, dilapidated over the years, and frequently hit by typhoons. It was Ming Dahai's idea to put four stakes in the corner of the wall, mainly to secure the tarpaulin.
Mingliang and Mingjing each held one end of the tarpaulin hanging down, and with the other hand they used a rope to tie the tarpaulin to the wooden hole in the ground stake.
The stakes are made of wood and are firmly embedded in the floor tiles. For convenience, a hole is usually dug in the stakes for easy attachment.
After getting everything ready, Ming Dahai slowly climbed up the ladder.
"dad……"
Mingjing tried to say "be careful," but the wind filled her mouth and she couldn't open it. Instead, her mouth swelled up and she couldn't close it.
Back inside, Sun Yunmei poured hot water, breathed a sigh of relief, and then placed a basin in the leaky area to catch the water.
“This dilapidated house is like this every year. We’ve asked you to renovate it, but you refuse. Aren’t you afraid it will collapse one day?” Sun Yunmei complained as she served hot tea.
Ming Dahai took the hot water, drank a sip, and wiped the water off his face with a towel. "Repair it, we'll repair it after the typhoon passes."
Speaking of repairing the house, Mingjing wants to tear it down and rebuild it. The house is too dilapidated; it's the oldest house on the entire island.
Even Sun Yang's family is better off than hers.
She doesn't have enough money to build a house yet; she'll wait until she gets something bigger.
The plastic sheeting on the roof rattled loudly, and Mingjing listened to it all night without closing her eyes.
Before dawn, Mingjing got out of bed with dark circles under her eyes, glanced at the wall clock, and looked outside.
It was still pitch black, but a few faint lights could be seen, indicating that someone must have passed by.
Mingjing stretched and went outside. The wind was much calmer than yesterday, and a light rain was falling, which wouldn't stop her from going to the beach.
"Mingjing, you didn't sleep all night either, did you? Why are you up so early?" Minghai got up in the middle of the night and saw Mingjing standing at the door like a wandering ghost.
"Dad, I'm not sleepy. I'm going to the beach. There should be plenty of seafood there. If I go too late, it'll be gone," Mingjing said, yawning.
Ming Dahai said again, "Forget it, don't take the risk. The typhoon hasn't passed yet. Why don't you stay home and help me fix the roof?"
He was suspicious. Mingjing and Mingliang used to be like each other, lazy and ignorant of farming, spending their days eating, drinking and having fun, and never going to the beach.
I've been unusually diligent lately, which is really strange.
"Dad, may the Goddess of the Sea protect me. I stood her up yesterday. I'm afraid she'll be angry. I'll be careful and come back as soon as I see danger. It'll be alright."
Ming Dahai still disagreed, "Mingjing, it's too dangerous. You don't know how dangerous it is since it's your first time encountering a typhoon."
"Dad, please let me go. I promise I can earn 30,000 to 40,000 this time. The roof at home is too old. I'll earn the money to buy you a new house."
With current housing prices of several hundred yuan per square meter, Mingjing can buy a small house in one go if he works hard, or even build a small villa in the village.
When the topic of houses came up, Ming Dahai was somewhat tempted.
Mingjing said again, "Dad, believe me, I've been through the sea, it's just a typhoon. I really can't offend the Goddess of the Sea."
She spent 5,000 points to buy the Lucky Pill, and now she's wasting her time like this. She's going to lose a lot of money.
Ming Dahai hesitated. It was time to move to a new house. Given Ming Jing's past luck, things were really unpredictable during typhoons.
“Let your dad go with you, but he won’t go to sea!” Sun Yunmei originally disagreed, but she couldn’t resist Mingjing’s coaxing and had to agree.
Mingjing couldn't agree, so she turned around and went back, saying, "I'll change my clothes."
She changed into her beachcombing gear, took out six fish traps from her spatial storage, and used the river delicacies she had caught the day before as bait.
"Where did you get the cage?" Ming Dahai asked, puzzled.
"I went to buy it while you were asleep last night. Hurry up and go. Just put it in shallow water later," Mingjing said, afraid of saying too much and making a mistake, and quickly left.
Ming Dahai picked up the earth cage, examined it, slung it over his shoulder, and muttered, "It's quite heavy. How much does Old Wang sell this for?"
“I’ll buy them all for twenty each, it’s sure to be a hit,” Mingjing said with a smile.
"Wait for me!"
Mingliang came running up from behind, fuming, holding beachcombing gear. "Dad, I want to go too! I promise I'll be good from now on."
"Let's go," Ming Dahai said, glancing at his son without saying anything as he walked forward.
He had said the same thing before. Ming Dahai obviously didn't believe Ming Liang's explanation, but since it wasn't a bad thing for him to go, he agreed.
"Mingjing, are you sure you have the goods today?" Mingliang asked suspiciously.
"Maybe. I just want to set up a trap to see if we have any stock."
There was no one on the road. The wind was still quite strong today, and not many innocent people would risk going to the beach, except for the Ming family of three.
Before they even got close to the sea, the Ming family could hear the sound of waves crashing against the rocks.
The mudflats where we used to go beachcombing have long been submerged, and the rocky beach from last time is nowhere to be seen either, with only a few larger rocks still protruding from the water.
Blue waves crashed against the rocks, creating white spray. The waves rose three meters high, as if to swallow the entire island, and the coastline extended all the way to the breakwater.
Mingjing could sense that if the typhoon didn't move away, the coastline would continue to rise, and the blue waves would engulf the sand and gravel on the beach, turning it murky.
All the paths down were now impassable. Mingjing walked along the top of the embankment, remembering that there was a huge rock ahead that could block the wind.
Sure enough, when the three of them walked to the back of the rock, the wind had subsided considerably. This place was also above the dike, at the foot of the mountain, with the ocean below.
"Dad, is it okay to throw it here?" Mingjing asked, pointing to the area below the embankment.
