Chapter 52 Finding a bargain on the beach

"The waves are too big, and there's nothing below; there's probably no cargo." Ming Dahai guessed that since there was nothing below and no support, it was simply impossible.

Mingjing thought about it and agreed. He changed his position and continued walking forward to the rocky beach from before.

The rocky beach had been submerged and no trace of rocks could be seen. They could only stand on high ground and look down, thinking about what the rocky beach used to look like and hoping it would work out.

The sea breeze was much stronger than at home, and the sound of the waves swept everything away, so Mingjing had to shout at the top of her lungs.

"Dad, the rocky beach will do, let's go with this."

Ming Dahai shook his head. "Forget it. With the waves crashing around here, there's nowhere to land. How could there possibly be any fish?"

"How could that be? I remember this side is rocky. As long as we throw it on the back of the rock, it will definitely work! Let's do it this way!"

Mingjing made up her mind, took out a few freshwater fish from the bucket, and then took out the yellowfin tuna that she hadn't finished eating last time and threw it into the octagonal cage.

You can't catch a wolf without risking your cub.

With a forceful throw, the octagonal cage gradually submerged the water. Mingjing held the line of the octagonal cage; fortunately, the fishing line was long enough, with one end tied to the wooden railing.

Ming Dahai sighed helplessly. Some things children can only understand through personal experience, and no amount of explanation from him would help.

Mingjing threw five of them away, and placed the remaining one in the woods not far ahead, where swimming crabs, coconut crabs, eels, and snails usually gather.

The mangroves were already submerged, so she could only rely on her memory to place the mangroves where there were clusters of rocks and coconut trees.

She thought that the tide would be low tomorrow and there would definitely be a harvest.

Ming Dahai sighed and walked forward, because the mountain at the corner blocked most of the sea breeze and the waves were not so big.

But he still couldn't hear what she was saying. Mingjing tied the last cage to a coconut tree in the mangrove forest with a tight knot, then turned to find Mingdahai.

"Dad, where is he!" Mingliang pointed to the figure on the shallow beach in the distance. "Is Dad trapped in the mud? It sounds like he's calling us."

Ming Dahai waved to them without saying a word.

"Let's go take a look!"

Mingjing and Mingliang ran quickly to the shallows, where the wind was not strong and there were many rocks and puddles left by the previous mudslide, making it easier to walk than other places.

"Mingjing, come quick! Look how many sea urchins there are here!" Ming Dahai exclaimed excitedly, bending down to place the sea urchins into the wooden bucket.

"Such a big sea urchin? And a purple one at that!" Mingjing exclaimed in surprise.

The purple sea urchin has a dark green shell with a well-developed, convex back and tapering ends. Its bark is purplish-black, and its mouth has patterns. It is an omnivorous animal that loves to eat algae.

However, for humans, it is a rare delicacy, and the price of purple sea urchin on the market is no less than that of variegated abalone.

"When did you start knowing about different types of sea urchins?" Ming Dahai couldn't suppress the corners of his mouth turning up in a smile.

"I heard it from someone, brother, hurry up and pick it up!" Mingjing changed the subject and squatted down to help.

Sea urchins are scattered in the crevices of the rocks; you can find two or three every time you look up, and Mingjing's hands are sore from picking them up.

She discovered that the sea urchins here were twice the size of ordinary ones, with each one weighing at least a pound.

Did her lucky charm work?

"Dad, what's the price of sea urchins now? We're sure to make money this time!" Mingjing said, head down, picking them up.

Ming Dahai said smugly, "I estimate it will cost thirty yuan per jin."

After he finished speaking, he looked at Mingjing, whose body seemed to be emitting a red light. Could it be that the Goddess of the Sea was protecting Mingjing?

He was secretly relieved; Mingjing was a lucky star. He was fortunate to have listened to her and come today, otherwise he would have missed out on this fortune.

If he could make more money this time, he would definitely be able to afford a small villa to live in. The more Ming Dahai thought about it, the happier he became, and his hands moved much faster.

"Dad, what's that?" Mingliang asked curiously, pointing to something lying not far away.

Mingjing looked up at the rock and saw a blue crab lying on the edge of the rock, trying to hide itself in the mud.

"Blue crab!"

Mingjing stepped forward and dug it out; it was a palm-sized blue crab, which thrilled Ming Dahai.

"Wow, such a big blue crab! We're rich! Let's see if there are any more!" Ming Dahai bent down to pick up the sea urchins, grinning from ear to ear.

This blue crab weighs at least eight ounces; if we brought more, we definitely wouldn't be able to fit it in a bucket.

“Mingliang, go back and get a snakeskin bag, no, get several. I don’t think it will be enough to hold them all. Be careful not to let anyone see you when you get back.”

Ming Dahai gave him instructions, and Mingliang nodded and ran back.

"Wow, this is a blessing from God! This typhoon is just in time!" Ming Dahai laughed, his shoulders shaking.

"Dad, I caught another blue crab! It's a male!" Mingjing said excitedly, holding up a blue crab.

"Quick, look around, there's plenty of stuff here." Ming Dahai, head down, clutching a sea urchin, looked up and saw a giant wave approaching in the distance. "Mingjing, watch out!"

A giant wave rose three meters high and crashed towards Mingjing.

Mingjing turned around and walked back with the bucket, but she couldn't keep up with the speed of the waves. A wave swept her up and onto the shore, soaking her to the bone.

She hurriedly got up and staggered a little further away.

"Are you alright?" Ming Dahai dropped the sea urchin he was holding and ran over to check. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found out that everything was fine. "Let's see if there's any cargo on the shore."

Mingjing nodded and wrung out the seawater from her body.

She could have gone into the sea today and definitely picked up more than she could have done on the shore, but she was afraid that Ming Dahai would worry, so she could only watch from the beach.

Thinking of the seafood in the water, Mingjing was reluctant to leave.

"There are some on the shore too. The typhoon swept seafood everywhere. Quick, pick them up!" Ming Dahai caught a red crab not far away and held it up to show off.

"Look! Mingjing, the red crabs are so big. It's hard to find them before. It would be great if we had more."

Ming Dahai stood not far away, his mouth opening and closing. The wind was too strong, and Ming Jing couldn't hear what he was saying, so she could only stand aside and laugh foolishly.

Soon, Mingliang came over with three snakeskin bags and shouted to the shore, "Dad, I'm here!"

Mingliang ran forward with the snakeskin bag in his hand.

"Hey! What are you doing? Come up here! You can't go into the sea during a typhoon!" Song Laosan lived on the embankment and could see the sea view clearly from his apartment.

Yesterday, Song Laosan's house was leaking, so he went to stay at Widow Li's house. He didn't return until early this morning. As soon as he got to his door, he saw several figures below the embankment.

Out of kindness, he approached because he was afraid the three of them couldn't hear him. He was shocked when he saw the sea urchin bucket in Ming Dahai's hand, "So big?"

He reached out to touch it, but Ming Dahai dodged him. "Third brother, you come and pick some too. There's a lot of this stuff. This time you should be able to marry Widow Li."

Old Song is a big mouth. If we let him go, he'll definitely gossip everywhere. What will they be able to find when the people come?

"Okay, okay."

Song Laosan didn't bring any tools, so he could only pick up one and throw it onto the shore. It was too far from the shore, and he got tired after throwing it a few times.

"Mingjing, give me a snakeskin bag, I'll return it to you later."

"Oh," Mingjing said unhappily, handing her the snakeskin bag.

Seeing so much seafood in Mingjing's hands, Song Laosan was itching to try it himself and teased, "You've been picking up seafood here for a long time, haven't you? Wouldn't I have become rich if I hadn't come to your house?"
