Chapter 53 Song Laosan's Envy

Ming Dahai chuckled awkwardly and remained silent.

Even if it's not in the water, there are plenty of good things on the shore, such as octopuses, crabs, snails, moon shells, and clams.

Ming Dahai also picked up several thumb-thick conger eels and sea bream, as well as a number of large conch and snails.

The buckets couldn't hold everything, so apart from the eels and fish that needed water, everything else was thrown into snakeskin bags.

Mingjing got tired of searching and sat down on a rock to rest. He opened the fishing tackle shop page, and the progress bar for the Lucky Pill was only halfway done, indicating that there were still seafood in this area.

A bright future lies ahead!

Mingjing was instantly energized and bent down again to pick up the bucket.

Seeing the three men scooping up a large amount of food, their snakeskin bags quickly bulged, while Song Laosan's snakeskin bag remained untouched for a long time, making him very envious.

But there was nothing he could do. He was a bachelor, and his lover, Widow Li, was someone he couldn't keep secret. So he had to pick up the pieces himself.

However, he was puzzled. There were clearly many goods on the shore, and the three of them had picked them up, so why couldn't he see any?

I searched for ages, crouching low, but found very little of it.

Mingjing's hands moved even faster, afraid that Song Laosan would pick up something good, picking up two or three at a time.

It was almost noon when Mingliang rubbed his stomach and said, "Dad, I'm hungry."

Ming Dahai glanced at him and said irritably, "Doing any kind of work is either tiring or makes you hungry. Look at your sister!"

A son is not as capable as a daughter.

"Mingjing, did you bring your cell phone? Call your mom and ask her to make some meat pies and bring them over, along with a pot of hot water."

Ming Dahai was reluctant to leave this auspicious place, otherwise it would all benefit Song Laosan.

"oh."

Mingjing opened her clothes, took out the mobile phone hanging around her neck, untied the plastic bag, and called home.

"Mom, get us some meat patties, a pot of water, and a few bowls. We're on the shallows to the east. Be careful on the way, don't let anyone see us."

Oh, right, bring three more burlap sacks; we have too much stuff here.

Mingjing shouted at the top of her lungs, but she couldn't hear what Sun Yunmei was saying on the other end of the line, so she hung up the phone.

“Mingjing, your phone must have been expensive, right? It was a gift from your godfather. Everyone in our village is talking about it. Your godfather is rich, and you've really risen to a high position.”

Song Laosan looked on with envy and continued, "Mingjing, I heard you've made a lot of money lately, so you probably don't need that phone. Why don't you sell it to me cheaply?"

"Song Laosan, what are you dreaming about!" Ming Dahai said decisively. "Mingjing, put your phone away, don't let it get wet."

“I know,” Mingjing said, putting her phone in a plastic bag and stuffing it into her clothes. “Uncle Song, I’m young, not stupid.”

A mobile phone costs tens of thousands of yuan, and even after decades, its collectible value will not be low. Would someone be a fool to sell it to her cheaply?

Mingjing was quick; he took everything, dead or alive, and soon filled a bag.

"Dad, this sea cucumber is huge!" Mingliang said, picking up a dark, large sea cucumber and showing it off.

Looking at it through the mirror, it was indeed huge, probably weighing about two pounds, and it was still spitting out water.

"Really, that's great! This sea cucumber can sell for over ten yuan!" Ming Dahai exclaimed with delight.

"Stop dawdling, hurry up and pick them up, Uncle Song has already picked up quite a few."

Mingjing stood behind, urging them on.

Hearing this, Song Laosan felt even worse. He had only picked up cheap, damaged goods that Mingjing didn't want, and he hadn't even filled a small bag in half a day.

He couldn't say he didn't find anything, since others had collected a whole sackful; saying that would only make people think he was incompetent.

Oh well, I'll just have to bear it. It's better than nothing.

That little rascal Mingjing, she probably knew the price of the abalone was wrong last time, so she's deliberately trying to trip him up.

Now everyone in the village is wary of Mingjing. They know her family is rich and dare not offend her, partly because she is cunning and can kill without shedding blood.

Everyone said that Mingjing was the one who caused trouble for Yu Daniu and Lao Zhao, and that she even publicly did favors for them, making it impossible for anyone to find fault with her.

Some people say that Song Laosan didn't believe it at first, but later Huang Daguang explained that Mingjing was selling seafood in the city and also talked about selling fruit, so he had no choice but to believe it.

He dared not complain to the girl and buried his head in following Mingjing, picking out goods.

Mingjing was too busy picking up the things to guess what Song Laosan was thinking.

Two hours later, Mingliang was so hungry that he felt dizzy and almost lost his balance and fell into the sea.

"Mingjing, why isn't Mom here yet? I'm so hungry I'm dizzy."

"Bright! The sea, a mirror!"

Wearing a raincoat, carrying a wooden basket in one hand and a water bottle in the other, Sun Yunmei hurried towards the embankment.

On the way, she complained that the awful weather made it hard for her to walk steadily, until she saw the large conch shell in Mingjing's hand and her face lit up with joy.

"Wow, this conch shell is beautiful!"

Ming Dahai looked at it and said, "I've heard that quite a few people in the inland areas like this thing. The shell alone is worth a lot of money."

"Mom, come quick, I'm starving!"

Mingliang waded over, took the basket from Sun Yunmei's hand, and went to a sheltered spot to eat the pancake with gusto.

"Leave some for your dad and your sister," Sun Yunmei instructed loudly, then turned to see Song Laosan with a surprised look in her eyes.

What's this guy doing here?

Song Laosan didn't notice Sun Yunmei's expression; his attention was entirely focused on the bright meat pie. He swallowed hard, his eyes filled with envy.

It's so good to have a wife.

Mingliang finished eating and left more than half of the food. He poured out half a bowl of hot water, but the wind at the seaside was so strong that Mingliang could barely hold the bowl, and the hot water cooled down as soon as it reached his mouth.

Mingjing and Mingdahai had no appetite and walked forward carrying a wooden bucket in one hand and a snakeskin bag in the other.

Sun Yunmei stood there looking at the full snakeskin bags, afraid that Song Laosan would steal them and search around.

Walking along the beach, the two soon left the island's boundaries, and the water became increasingly deep.

The seawater was only ankle-deep, but Ming Dahai was afraid that a rip current would suddenly appear, so he picked up the sack and walked back.

"Mingjing, don't go any further, it's not safe!"

Mingjing looked at the sack, which contained tiny sea cucumbers, abalone, and the like. She didn't know if this counted as good luck, but she felt it was a waste of time.

The path ahead is a rocky sloping river, extremely steep. Normally, at low tide, it's manageable to walk carefully, but now the water is too deep, and if you slip down, you'll hit the rocks.

Mingjing dared not go any further. She thought that if she went around to the other side, there might be a big shipment, but she was unwilling to give up.

"Come back! It's easy to slip over there!" Old Man Song waved to them.

Song Laosan had always lived here and was very familiar with the area, so Mingjing had no choice but to believe him.

The two men returned carrying sacks and buckets. Mingliang handed them two bowls of water. "Dad, Mingjing, you two rest here and have something to eat. I'll go take a look over there."

Mingliang took the eel bucket and sack from Mingjing and went in the opposite direction to search.

After he left, Sun Yunmei smiled and said, "My son has really changed. He's now proactive in doing chores and cares about people."

"Hmph, who knows him?" Ming Dahai muttered, taking a sip of tea and sitting on the shore eating a pancake.

After finishing their meal, Mingjing and Mingdahai engaged in battle, heading towards the bright direction.

After working for who knows how long, Sun Yunmei's bag was full, and even Song Laosan had picked up a big bag. Mingjing was so tired that he couldn't straighten his back.

"Dad, let's go back, that's enough."

Mingjing picked up a lot of small items, filling several large bags, and couldn't fit them all back home.

"Let's go back," Ming Dahai said, wiping the sweat from his brow, completely satisfied.

He had just picked up a lot of things, including a whole bag full of crabs. He was afraid the crabs would suffocate if he didn't go back.

"Alright, I'll head back now. Mingjing owes you all a lot today," Song Laosan chuckled.

"Uncle Song, don't just talk the talk, it shouldn't be too hard to give my dad two packs of cigarettes as a token of your appreciation, right?"

“Three guarantees!” Old Song grinned.

Song Laosan wasn't truly heartless; he knew that he had gotten this sack of goods thanks to Mingjing, and he planned to continue collecting seafood using Mingjing in the future.

Maybe I can find a house, but I definitely can't offend anyone.

As they were talking, Mingjing looked up and saw a huge crowd of people suddenly appearing on the shore.
