Chapter 18 Encountering Zombies on the Island

The survival system notification sounded three times before it stopped, and most of the players who heard it started crying out in the chat.

[Zhang X: Holy crap, what's going on?! Why all of a sudden?!]

[?: Stop yelling, let's get the supplies ready, it's almost minus forty degrees Celsius.]

[Lin XX: What should I do? I just washed my mink coat yesterday.]

...

While brushing his teeth, Lin Hu glanced at the chat area and then ignored it. He used the mature cotton to make some warm inner garments with his sewing machine and sent them to Cheng Yuan and Duan Linzhou before listing the extras on the trading market. The price was set at 10 level-3 crystal cores per piece, which was considered expensive for most players.

But it's been so long since the apocalypse, they should have some savings by now. Most people without savings are either incapable or lack the courage to hunt mutated beasts, and such people won't live long and are unlikely to become his long-term partners.

Lin Hu noticed that the pomegranates and oranges outside were almost ripe, so he planned to pick as many as he could, trying to finish them all. He wasn't going to count on the cherries, as they were small and the leaves were dense, and it always took him more than half an hour to pick them all. Moreover, because he had previously spent more time picking cherries than with the pomegranates and oranges, their growing seasons had now become longer.

After Lin Hu finished washing up, Duan Linzhou went to the bathroom.

With plenty of time to spare, Lin Hu took out the leftover pigeon soup from yesterday and warmed it up. It wasn't much, but it was enough for the two of them to have a small bowl each to tide them over.

When Duan Linzhou finished washing up and came out, the pigeon soup was warmed up. The two of them took their bowls and went to the area where the fruit was being attacked to guard and drink it.

Around 7:40, the fruit ripened, and the two had to put down the pigeon soup they hadn't finished and hurry to pick the fruit.

The two of them went to pick pomegranates first, as they were the most useful at the moment. They hadn't used the oranges they had on them much, and now they only had a little over two hundred left.

Fortunately, the pomegranate leaves were small and the fruits were large, so they were picked quickly. Lin Hu then quickly grabbed the scissors to cut the oranges.

The two were in a hurry, and by the time they finished cutting, the countdown had already started with one minute left.

"Quickly go change your shoes and grab your coat." Lin Hu didn't care about anything else and quickly pulled Duan Linzhou into the house. Fortunately, he had already put on his shoes and had his coat and scarf in hand.

A white light enveloped the two of them. Before Lin Hu could grab Duan Linzhou, he felt dizzy and found himself standing on the roof of a building with more than 30 floors.

Lin Hu cleared his dazed mind and looked around. There were two other men on the roof of his building, both around thirty years old, who seemed to have been teleported here as well.

"What's going on? This is... a city?!"

The taller of the two spoke first, his tone full of surprise.

“Wasn’t the city already submerged?” the slightly shorter man asked. He wore frameless glasses and had thinning hair, giving him the air of an elite.

After saying that, the bespectacled man muttered "I need to go home and check on things," and turned to walk towards the exit from the rooftop to the ground floor.

Lin Hu withdrew his gaze, quickly put on his coat, and didn't intend to talk to the two of them. He opened his friends list, intending to contact Duan Linzhou first.

[Lin Hu: How are things on your end?]

[Duan Linzhou: How are things on your end?]

The two messages were sent and received almost simultaneously. Lin Hu smiled and quickly replied.

[Lin Hu: I'm currently in a high-rise building in a residential complex, but my exact location is still unclear.]

[Duan Linzhou: Coordinates are at the bottom of my personal homepage.]

I had really forgotten about Lin Hu. I immediately opened his profile and saw an inconspicuous number 130 and 1195 in the lower left corner of the screen.

"ah--!"

After Lin Hu sent the coordinates to Duan Linzhou, he was about to ask about the situation when a scream drew his attention away.

Lin Hu looked toward the source of the sound and saw the bespectacled man fall to the ground in fright, staring in terror at the open iron gate.

Lin Hu walked over and discovered a highly decomposed corpse lying at the bottom of the stairs inside the door. The body was so badly eaten by insects that it could only be identified as a girl by her clothes and hair.

Before they got too close to Linhu, they heard hurried footsteps and shouts coming from the bottom of the stairs in front of them. The sound gradually became clearer, the footsteps got closer and closer, and they could even clearly feel the ground shaking.

A thought flashed through Lin Hu's mind: This is a city. After the acid rain, there aren't as many plants and animals, but there are many people. So the only source of these sounds now is—zombies!

Zombies are different from mutated plants and animals. Although the ones in front of us are weaker than plants and animals, regardless of their level, they all have the ability to infect humans.

Without hesitation, Lin Hu immediately closed the door. But seeing the twisted metal at the lock, which was blocking the bolt, Lin Hu immediately shouted to the person on the ground:

"Hey you on the ground, can you manipulate metal?"

The two of them were also terrified by the approaching sounds from downstairs. Upon hearing Lin Hu's voice, they immediately suppressed their panic and came over to help.

"Restore this piece of sheet metal." Lin Hu pointed to the area that needed to be restored, and took out a few oranges and pomegranates from his backpack.

The sound drew closer, and they heard the zombies were already downstairs. A group of zombies with bluish-gray skin, white eyes, and tattered clothes swarmed to within three meters of the corner. Lin Hu immediately threw a pomegranate, and at that moment, the iron gate was repaired and slammed shut behind it.

"Bang!"

The explosion rang out, and the building shook a few times. The blast wave almost knocked the people off the door. Before they could react, several more explosions rang out, but none as loud as the first one. The people instinctively held the door shut.
