Chapter 114 Madness and Chaos
Having received information that the Ghost King of Hedong would appear, Wei Yanqing was satisfied. "Thank you for your cooperation. You can follow me now, or continue to find a place to hide."
Shi Yulian naturally wanted to follow him. This man could kill ghosts, so why was he hiding in the cabinet? "I'll follow you. I want to go back and see my child."
This was her deliberate act of weakness, but it also revealed her true feelings.
Wei Yanqing nodded. "Okay."
As he spoke, he walked out, and Shi Yulian hurriedly followed.
Wei Yanqing: "How long will this dodgeball game last?"
Shi Yulian glanced at her watch. "At most two hours. It depends on how many people are still alive. In most cases, when there are only three or four people left, the Ghost King of Hedong will appear to finish the game."
"Are you a member of the Resistance League?" Wei Yanqing asked her.
In his view, people who are so clearly aware of the horror of ghosts seem to have joined the resistance alliance. They cannot stay at home and live with family members whose understanding of ghosts is flawed.
Shi Yulian hurriedly shook her head, "No, before I came in, I was just like everyone else, but I recovered here."
Wei Yanqing nodded thoughtfully, "No wonder they don't let people leave alive."
They provided a cabinet for hiding, but had a low-level ghost guard it. Besides the psychological torment, this shows they had no intention of letting anyone leave.
"Do you hold sacrificial ceremonies every day?" Wei Yanqing asked, changing the subject.
"No, it's usually held once a week. It used to be held every day, but our city doesn't have a large population to begin with. After the number of sacrifices decreased sharply, the frequency was changed. Now the program is held once a month. The people who come in are all voluntarily signed up when they were not in a good state of mind. Their behavior after coming in is considered by outsiders to be traitors, so no one wants the people here to live."
Wei Yanqing: "I understand, thank you for your detailed explanation."
The reason why Shi Yulian and the others are so lucid must be related to time and space. This is not a copy world affected by ghosts, so the erroneous perceptions attached to people are naturally dispelled.
Wei Yanqing later saved two more people and dealt with three first-tier ghosts.
He had asked Shi Yulian some questions before letting her follow, but he didn't say anything after that, yet he automatically followed behind her.
·
Due to limited space, Wei Yanqing walked for more than half an hour before encountering Rong Yi.
“I didn’t see the so-called Ghost Lord.” Rong Yi tossed the four ghost crystals in her hand. The ghost crystals tumbled in the air and landed steadily back in her palm. Behind her were two trembling people.
Wei Yanqing looked at Shi Yulian behind him and said, "I asked, and they said that the Ghost King will only appear when a certain number of people remain on the field."
Upon hearing this, the survivors worried that the two would abandon them and reduce their numbers.
Rong Yi pulled out a chair next to him and sat down. "Then let's wait. If we keep this number of people on the field, I don't believe it won't notice."
The group, who had been tense, breathed a slight sigh of relief.
"But how long do we have to wait? We still have to travel tomorrow," Rong Yi complained.
Wei Yanqing: "Let's wait another hour and see."
Rong Yi was a bit irritable. He hadn't eaten dinner since getting off the highway and looking for a place to stay. He was planning to start preparing dinner as soon as he found a room, but he ended up in this awful place.
Wei Yanqing noticed her agitation and said, "Why don't you eat something first to fill your stomach?"
A hint of impatience flashed in Rong Yi's eyes. He put away the ghost crystal, took out the boxed lunch, and began to eat while the survivors stared in disbelief.
Fortunately, the Ghost King of Hedong didn't keep them waiting too long. He noticed that the number of people in the game area remained the same, and there were no subordinates among them, so he knew something was wrong.
Rong Yi finished the last bite with a sour face, and when he put the spoon back in the box, the table began to shake.
"It's the Ghost King of Hedong!" someone shouted.
Five unlucky yet fortunate people hid under a table, fearing the house would collapse and crush them.
Rong Yi loosened the spoon with his thumb and forefinger. Wei Yanqing remained seated, looking around to see where the Ghost King of Hedong would appear from.
A figure dressed in a black robe floated down from a great height, landing on the ground with its back to them.
"It's people like you again. No wonder the game was stuck."
The voice of the Ghost King of Hedong is quite pleasant; if you ignore all other factors, you would think he is a kind and patient schoolteacher.
"Since you're here, let's wrap this up." Rong Yi stood up and began to stretch his shoulders.
The Ghost King of Hedong shook his head. "You have already proven your strength in other cities. You have won this game."
"So cowardly?" Rong Yi asked, puzzled.
The Ghost Lord of Hedong's back stiffened for a moment, then he said coldly, "It won't be so simple when we meet again."
As soon as he finished speaking, everything around him shattered like a broken mirror, exploding into dust moments later. Meanwhile, they were all in their hotel rooms, with the five unlucky guys hiding behind the clothes rack.
"They run really fast," Wei Yanqing commented.
The five people couldn't believe they had actually survived the game. Shi Yulian leaned against the wall next to the landing platform and stood up. "We survived?"
Among the people still squatting, one pinched his own face hard, and the pain felt very real.
"We survived! We made it!"
The five people did not have any further cognitive errors after leaving the alternate dimension. On the contrary, they clearly remembered what had just happened, and judging from their excited appearance, they did not seem willing to sacrifice themselves to the ghost.
·
Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing certainly had no intention of taking in a few unlucky souls. Before Yuan Tianyi left, he gave them his contact information, and Wei Yanqing gave them the number, telling them to contact the Resistance Alliance. There was no other way out.
They were slightly disappointed that they hadn't caught the Demon King, but they still had to keep going.
The next day they got up early, and when they went downstairs, a young woman was already standing at the hotel reception desk with a standard fake smile on her face.
Rong Yi didn't encounter anything strange on the rest of the journey, and he occasionally remarked that ghosts weren't everywhere.
Completely unaware that nearby players had already wiped out all the ghosts in the vicinity.
Arriving in the capital smoothly and passing through the checkpoints, the first thing I noticed was one of the characteristics of the capital's prosperity: traffic jams.
Looking at the long queue ahead, Rong Yi rested his chin on his hand and gazed at the scenery outside the window. Everywhere he looked, there were tall buildings. "If I had known I should have taken the subway, I would have stopped the car in public now."
Wei Yanqing scrolled through his phone. "It's alright. We're not far from where Yuan Tianyi mentioned. This place can't be blocked forever."
Yuan Tianyi provided them with a number to contact their allies in the capital and gave them an address where they could get the key to their temporary accommodation.
"Hey." Rong Yi patted his shoulder and pointed out the window, "Look over there, those are players."
In the direction she pointed, five players were standing by the roadside, observing their surroundings as they walked.
Wei Yanqing glanced in the direction she pointed and said, "There's one over there too." He also pointed to a location.
Not far ahead of that group of players was another team. Rong Yi put his index finger to his lips and said, "No wonder it's the capital city, there are so many players."
