Chapter 5 Survival of the Brave

Chapter 5 Survival of the Brave

The "paths" in the wild jungle are difficult to walk on. You not only have to watch your step, but also be careful of insects crawling on you.

Not long after Rong Yi left, he felt hungry. At first, he wanted to save food and eat only one meal a day to rest in Obsidian City for a few more days, but his body would get so hungry at mealtimes that he couldn't go without eating.

That's why she went into the dungeon on her own initiative; staying in Obsidian City would only waste the stored food.

There was no way to sit down and eat in this overgrown place, so she had to stand up and take out a pack of compressed biscuits. Although the food was dry, Rong Yi could eat it. She opened the bottle of purified water close to her chin, at least the brim of her fisherman's hat could slightly cover the mouth of the bottle.

After taking a few sips of water, Rong Yi swallowed an insect-repelling pill, still feeling uneasy.

The moisture in the forest grew heavier, and Rong Yi's hat brim dripped with water droplets from the trees. He had to shake his head to shake off the water after every few steps.

Luckily, this camouflage uniform is waterproof, otherwise it would be soaked by now.

Rong Yi's speed was not fast. In addition to the difficult terrain, he also had to be wary of ambushes from other players. After all, once you enter the dungeon, you can't access the shop, and everyone's resources are limited.

"Phew—" The system interface showed that she had spent two hours in this forest, and Rong Yi breathed a sigh of relief.

Suddenly, something fell onto her left shoulder with a snap. Rong Yi frowned, gripped the dagger in her backhand, and accurately struck her shoulder blade. Turning around, she saw a red, soft, wriggling worm, pointed at both ends and unusually fat in the middle, as thick as two of her fingers.

Red liquid seeped from the punctured part of the fat worm, meandering along the blade.

"Tsk." She wasn't afraid of the thing, but it looked disgusting.

He glanced around, broke off a blade of grass, pulled out the supple vein in the middle, and strung it on the blade while it was still wriggling.

Rong Yi wiped the liquid off the blade with a broad leaf covered in water droplets.

After walking for a while, she realized that she had entered an area with a large number of red worms. She glanced down and found that there were several red worms stuck to her trouser leg.

Half an hour later, she had several leaf veins on her hand, covered with red worms, and she seemed to have left the area.

Unaware that they were only a few kilometers away from her, many people were unknowingly drained of their blood by these red worms. When they bite their prey, they release anesthesia, making the prey unable to feel pain. In this way, the prey slowly felt their steps becoming heavier and heavier, the color of their bodies gradually disappearing, and finally their vision went black as they collapsed, forever remaining in this jungle.

After leaving the area with the red worms, the view opened up considerably, and at least the number of trees was sparser than before.

·

A river nearly three meters wide blocked their path, its rushing water flowing down the slope.

Fortunately, the river was not deep, only reaching mid-calf, so Rong Yi did not make any rash moves.

The river water looked clear, and you could see only stones on the riverbed at a glance, but we still had to test it out.

The red worms strung on the leaf veins are incredibly resilient; almost every one of them is wriggling.

Of course, she wouldn't just use her bare hands; she used a dagger to pick one out and casually tossed it into the river.

For the first few seconds, there was no movement as the red worm drifted with the current. But as the fluid inside the worm spread in the water, a strange change occurred on the riverbed. Where the water flowed, things that were thought to be just rocks moved, and two claws appeared on each side, moving toward the red worm.

When the red worms disappeared, these "stones" fell silent again, retracting their claws and nestling on the riverbed.

One red worm isn't enough to clear the area in front of you that's piled with stones, but these few worms with leaf veins should be enough.

She threw the bloodworms one by one into the river, and soon the stones rioted, swarming out to chase after the veins of the leaves with the bloodworms hanging on them.

After cleaning up, a "clean" path was cleared from the riverbed. Rong Yi seized the opportunity to quickly jump into the water and run across against the current.

The stone sensed something and wanted to chase after her, but fortunately, she quickly covered the three-meter distance and successfully crossed the shore.

Looking at the river, the stones made a lot of noise as they flowed along. Luckily, some insects were left behind, otherwise I would have had to go back to that area to collect them.

In this instance, everyone will encounter this river. Some people are not careful enough and go straight into the river to be devoured, while others, like Rong Yi, probe out the problem before daring to go any further.

Since the river water didn't reach above her knee-high boots, Rong Yi crossed the river with ease.

So far, he hasn't encountered a single person. Rong Yi doesn't know if it's because there aren't many participants or because the dungeon area is too large.

I didn't think about this problem for long, because it was getting dark and I needed to figure out how to rest tonight.

·

Rong Yi picked a large tree and was picking up branches when two rather disheveled people appeared.

The two people were a man and a woman. The man was holding the woman's arm, and the woman had an injury to her right leg.

When the two met, Rong Yi dropped the tree branch in his hand and quickly reached for the dagger, making the two men very nervous.

It was the woman with the pale face who spoke first: "It's getting dark, how about we cooperate tonight?"

Seeing that they didn't seem to have any ill intentions, Rong Yi nodded, "Okay, but you'll have to help me pick up the branches." Although she said that, she didn't take her hand off the dagger.

After crossing the river, the air was not so humid, so Rong Yi picked up some relatively dry branches and piled them all next to the big tree.

The man helped the woman to sit down by the tree, placed his storage backpack next to her, nodded to Rong Yi, and then went to the other side to pick up tree branches. This was a gesture of goodwill; placing the supplies next to his injured companion expressed his willingness to cooperate.

Even while picking up tree branches, Rong Yi didn't put down his backpack. Judging from his encounter with these two people, he could continue this behavior.

The branches beside the tree were piled up, enough for one night's consumption. The dry grass to start a fire was found by that man, which made Rong Yi's expression better.

As the fire blazed, the man tore open the woman's right trouser leg. Disinfectant bubbled as it washed the wound. The woman gritted her teeth, and in the firelight, the muscles on her face could be clearly seen trembling.

Rong Yi watched as the man skillfully stitched up the wound, sprinkled hemostatic powder on it, gave an injection, and then wrapped it with gauze. The whole process took less than ten minutes.

The blood-stained cloth was thrown into the fire by the man to prevent wild animals from smelling the blood and coming to find it.

"My name is Li Huanxin, and this is Ji Jianyuan. We've been running dungeons together." Li Huanxin's breathing was unsteady as she spoke, while Ji Jianyuan continued to work beside her.

"Rong Yi, that's my name." He didn't know what else to say.

Ji Jianyuan took out a large iron can from his storage backpack. Rong Yi heard a rustling sound coming from inside the can.

An iron frame was placed on the fire, and an iron can was placed on top of it. Soon, the commotion inside the can became even greater.

What's inside?

"Bloodsucking worms are red worms that crawl onto people and suck their blood, like leeches." Ji Jianyuan finally spoke, taking something out of his bag as he spoke—a stone mortar.

"You collect these too?" Judging by the size of this tin can, there must be quite a few.

Li Huanxin nodded, "Yes, this bug looks disgusting, but it can quickly stop bleeding when applied externally and replenish blood when taken internally. It has great medicinal value."

Rong Yi asked in confusion, "How do you know?" Could it be that she has lost her memory and doesn't remember these things?

Li Huanxin chuckled, "You'll know once you use the appraisal device; it's very useful." Then she asked, "You need to learn more about the products in the mall. The appraisal device is one of the commonly used tools. Collect more items and sell them in Obsidian City."
