Chapter 6 Survival of the Brave

Chapter 6 Survival of the Brave

Rong Yi glanced at the two of them. "I'm a newbie. I haven't been out of the newbie dungeon for long. This is my second dungeon."

Li Huanxin was slightly taken aback. "A second instance? Then you're not so lucky."

Ji Jianyuan also looked up, "You have to be careful."

Those captured are all people living modern lives; few of them are capable of surviving in the wild.

"Can everything from the dungeon be brought to Obsidian City?" Rong Yi stared at the iron can; there was no movement inside.

Li Huanxin nodded, "That's right, otherwise the points from dungeon rewards alone won't be enough. Although the items in the shop are complete, the prices are fixed and expensive, so we pay attention to collecting items when we run dungeons, of course, survival is the priority."

Rong Yi nodded thoughtfully. It seemed he needed to buy an appraisal device, but the system was really stingy, only giving him so few points that it was hard to even eat.

Seeing that most of the bloodsucking worms in the tin can were dead, Ji Jianyuan opened the lid and dumped all the worms onto the iron plate next to him to dry them.

The bloodsucking worms dried quickly. Ji Jianyuan picked out some, put them in a stone scoop, and ground them into powder. He mixed half of the powder with water and had Li Huanxin drink it. He wrapped the other half in paper and gave it to Rong Yi.

After Li Huanxin drank it, her expression relaxed a bit. "You chose this place, so consider the insect powder as our accommodation gift."

Rong Yi accepted it directly, "You guys also haven't been in this... real instance for long?"

“I’ve cleared five dungeons, and this is Ji Jianyuan’s seventh.” Li Huanxin said, seemingly recalling something. “Although I don’t know much, I can still tell you a few things.”

Ji Jianyuan silently boiled water, put in the compressed biscuits, cooked them into a paste, and then served it to Li Huanxin.

“For us who are clearing low-level dungeons, it’s best to have a companion, especially someone who hasn’t awakened any good talents yet,” Li Huanxin said. “You could consider that too.”

Rong Yi held a tree branch and poked around the fire. "How are dungeons graded? For example, you say this is low-end, but I didn't see any mention of dungeon levels in the system description."

Li Huanxin: "I won't go into details. The difficulty level is something that the people of Obsidian City have come up with. Generally speaking, the system will assign dungeons based on strength. Those who haven't unlocked their talents or haven't unlocked them for long will mostly be in low-end dungeons. Those who can skillfully use their talents after advancement will go to mid-end dungeons, and those who are strong will go to high-end dungeons."

"What if we maintain that level of strength?"

Li Huanxin didn't answer immediately, but stared blankly for a while before laughing and saying, "Then the system will directly throw you into a dungeon with increased difficulty, so everyone must not give up on improving their strength. If you slack off, you will die in the dungeon one day."

After she finished speaking, the scene fell silent for a while. "It's best to unlock your talent as soon as possible. Even if it only increases your strength, it's still better than the physique of an ordinary person." Li Huanxin was tired after saying this, and her eyelids trembled a few times before closing.

Rong Yi didn't say anything more. He finished a bag of compressed biscuits and lay down on the spot, using his backpack as a pillow to sleep.

As for Ji Jianyuan, he is still busy.

·

The vast land was desolate, and the spire seemed to tower into the sky. Standing at the top of the spire, a beastly roar came from behind. Turning around, a strange bird with a wingspan of three or four meters swooped down...

Rong Yi opened his eyes. The burnt-out pile of firewood was emitting white smoke. Across from him, Li Huanxin and Ji Jianyuan were still asleep, leaning against each other.

She got up, drank some water, and swallowed an anti-insect pill. Without disturbing the two of them, she silently picked up her bag and left.

I ate the compressed biscuits on the road, recalling the dream I had just had. The place in the dream seemed familiar, but I couldn't remember when I had been there before. It didn't seem like a normal world at all.

After walking a distance, a deafening roar came from behind, and the ground shook. Rong Yi immediately took out his dagger.

Unaware that this was a massive island, the edges of the island began to crumble, with cracks spreading towards the center until they reached the riverbank they had crossed the day before.

The tremors lasted for half a minute before stopping. Rong Yi didn't know what had happened, but he vaguely understood that being slow would definitely lead to a bad end.

Li Huanxin and Ji Jianyuan were awakened from their sleep by the shock. When they woke up, they found that Rong Yi was nowhere to be seen. They quickly got up and ran. After receiving injections to heal their wounds and drinking water mixed with insect powder, Li Huanxin's right leg had almost recovered and she could run normally again.

·

The further they went, the fewer trees there were, and the temperature rose accordingly. The previous humid and warm weather was gone, and today Rong Yi could clearly see the blue sky and white clouds.

The journey was relatively smooth, but Li Huanxin and Ji Jianyuan were not seen again afterward.

Suddenly Rong Yi stopped and looked around. She had a feeling that there was danger nearby, and it was aimed at her.

Along the way, she picked up a tree branch, trimmed off the twigs, and used it as a walking stick. Rong Yi slowed down and swept the branch over the path to make sure there was nothing unusual before walking on it.

Those secretly observing gritted their teeth. What's wrong with this woman? How could she be so perceptive!

After walking for more than ten meters like clearing minefields, Rong Yi felt increasingly strange. Looking around again, he saw that although there weren't many trees in the area, there were some, and the trunks were thick and the branches were lush.

There's something here!

This is Rong Yi's most direct feeling.

She drew her dagger and continued probing forward.

The two people hiding behind the tree trunk exchanged a glance. The woman was too cautious and lucky; she just missed several of the traps they had set.

"Let's just go for it, she's all alone."

Another hesitated, "Not a single person should be underestimated..."

"Tsk, she just has a bit too much intuition. We've run out of supplies. Do you really want to eat something from the forest?"

The two were kindred spirits. After using their points to buy items and a small amount of supplies, their favorite thing to do was eat, drink, and have fun in Obsidian City. They thought they could take a break and relax for a while, but they were sent here just two days after the last dungeon ended, without even having time to replenish their supplies.

After leaving the previous instance, I only had a little food and water left. I had to eat to get here after all the effort and stamina I had to travel. The little food I had was gone in two meals. After that, my first thought was to rob other people, not to try to eat the creatures in the instance.

Even if they could kill the wild animals, who knows how many parasites were inside, and they didn't have any deworming medication.

The other man was persuaded, "Alright, you go to the other side, we'll ambush from both sides..."

As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly shuddered, leaving his companion looking puzzled.

Soon their companions also realized something was wrong. They had been through several dungeons and weren't completely oblivious.

The two of them froze, then slowly turned their heads...

Its green-yellow eyes, each two palm-lengths long, stared at them. When the two turned around, it stuck out its long, thin tongue, and its thick, spotted scales reflected a cold light as it moved.

The two finally saw clearly that a giant snake had discovered them at some point, its body still hanging from the tree, its head drooping towards them.

"ah--!"

The piercing scream startled several birds resting on the treetops in the forest, and Rong Yi was also drawn back by the commotion.

A person ran out from behind the tree stump, stumbled a few steps, fell down, and immediately got up again, as if a ghost was chasing him.

Then another person appeared, but was being held in the mouth of the giant snake. This person was still alive and tried to call for help, but when he opened his mouth, he vomited blood.

Seemingly understanding the man's intention, the giant snake violently swung its head and bit, easily tearing a grown man apart like a rag doll. The severed torso was thrown far away with the force of the head-swinging motion.
