One thing that many people find troublesome and expensive when going to the hospital is that you have to have blood drawn, X-rays taken, and several other tests.
When the nurse saw the prominent veins on Xi Qingxu's forearm under her rolled-up sleeve, her eyes behind her glasses lit up instantly, almost as if she wanted to shout, "This vein is easy to puncture!"
After having my blood drawn and going through a series of procedures, I was finally taken to the ward to wait for my injection.
The infusion hall was crowded, and with Xi Qingxu having such a high fever, she would definitely fall asleep soon. The ward had a bed and was relatively quieter.
Lu Chuqing sat on the edge of the bed and saw Xi Qingxu sitting upright as well. She couldn't help but say, "You should lie down for a while. You have such a high fever."
Xi Qingxu looked at her without saying a word.
"Hmm? Is there something else?" Lu Chuqing had obviously forgotten that she was the one who told him to talk less.
Xi Qingxu shook his head.
Lu Chuqing was even more puzzled, "Then why didn't you say anything? I told you to lie down, but you didn't."
Xi Qingxu looked at her again, and then, under her questioning gaze, took off her shoes and lay down.
Immediately afterwards, Lu Ying led the nurse over to give him an injection. The boy stretched out his left hand, the rubber band tightly wrapped around his wrist, making the veins on the back of his hand more and more visible.
The nurse asked him to clench his fist, and Lu Chuqing noticed the bones at the joints were instantly visible.
After the IV drip was started, Lu Ying breathed a sigh of relief. Lu Chuqing pulled over a family chair for her to sit down and rest, but the woman couldn't sit still.
The doctor also told her to take a packet of fever reducer immediately, but Xi Qingxu didn't eat anything. She went to buy some food.
The woman had been running around without pausing for breath. Hearing this, Lu Chuqing said, "Mom, sit down and rest for a while. I'll go buy some food."
There were some small restaurants near the hospital entrance. Lu Ying, who spent all day at home writing and lacked exercise, was indeed feeling tired, so she didn't push herself. "Alright, then take care on your way."
"Okay, Mom."
After saying that, Lu Chuqing took her phone and left. Xi Qingxu, who was half-lying on the bed, moved her tongue, but in the end, she didn't say anything. She just stared at the girl's back as she left.
Seeing that Xi Qingxu was leaning against the headboard with nothing under her, Lu Ying picked up the blanket and pillow from the foot of the bed and carried them over. "Qingxu, it will be more comfortable to lean against the blanket."
Upon hearing this, the boy straightened up and thanked him in a hoarse voice, "Thank you."
Lu Yingci smiled and said, "No need to thank me, it's only right that I take care of you."
Not long after the IV drip started, the fever didn't subside quickly. The boy's face was still flushed, and his eyelashes were drooping. It was hard to tell whether he wanted to sleep or was lost in thought. He was completely silent and quiet.
As Lu Ying looked at it, she inexplicably recalled the time when Lu Chuqing had a high fever when she was a child.
Although she had a husband at that time, it was as if she didn't. She carried Lu Chuqing up and down the stairs, finally managing to lull her to sleep with an acupuncture needle. She was exhausted when she sat on the cold stool. But looking at the sleeping face of the little one in her arms, she was filled with strength again. She thought that since she hadn't been able to find a good father for her baby, she would love her baby even more.
Therefore, Lu Chuqing would tell her everything, what she wanted to eat or what she wanted, and as long as her conditions allowed, she would satisfy her.
Although some inexplicable things happened later, she and her daughter still talked about everything.
But she really didn't know how to get along with Xi Qingxu. She usually interacted with the boy in the same way she interacted with Lu Chuqing. Although she didn't see him showing any resistance, the result was that she and the boy were still not familiar with each other.
Just like today, the child had a fever but didn't say a word. When the doctor asked him about it, he said that he felt sleepy in the morning.
If she hadn't called the child a couple more times, he might have just fallen into a deep sleep, and no one knows when he would have been discovered.
She genuinely felt sorry for the child. Lu Chuqing could still talk to her, but Xi Qingxu couldn't get into anyone's heart.
Xi Jun already knew they were all at the hospital, so she rushed over as soon as she got off work, and just happened to run into Lu Chuqing who had just bought her dinner.
"Qingqing!"
"Uncle Xi."
Xi Jun saw her carrying the packed food before she even got out of the car. After getting out, she immediately went up to her and took the food. "Have your mother and the others finished cooking?"
"It's all done. Xi Qingxu has started the IV drip." Lu Chuqing rubbed her fingers, which were red from being bound. The two meals were still quite heavy, and her hands ached from being bound so tightly.
“My mother and Xi Qingxu haven’t eaten yet. My mother is very tired from running around, so I went out to buy food for her.”
The man noticed her little gesture, raised his hand and patted the little girl's head, "Our Qingqing is very sensible, thank you for your hard work, daughter."
Lu Chuqing smiled and said, "I'm not tired, Uncle and Mom are the ones who are tired the most."
They arrived at the ward quickly, and the commotion immediately caught Xi Qingxu's attention. Lu Chuqing looked up and met his staring gaze.
Perhaps because of the fever, the boy's dark eyes became wet, making her feel as if she had abandoned him and he was pitifully waiting for her to come back.
Lu Chuqing dismissed the thought; what nonsense was that?
The nearby restaurants were all pretty much the same, so Lu Chuqing bought some nutritious porridge, side dishes, and steamed buns.
Xi Jun had already laid out the food. Lu Ying took one of the bowls and placed it on the table next to Xi Qingxu, saying softly, "Qingxu, have some porridge first. Eat something whether you have an appetite or not. You still need to take your medicine later, and it's not good for your stomach if you don't eat something to line your stomach."
"Yes, thank you, Auntie." The boy's voice was very hoarse. When Lu Chuqing heard this, she quietly picked up the water glass that was placed aside and ran to get some water.
Xi Qingxu noticed her movements and watched her figure disappear again.
Fortunately, Lu Chuqing returned soon. Seeing her sitting at the foot of the bed resting, he picked up a spoon and ate the porridge spoonful by spoonful.
Originally worried that he wouldn't have an appetite, Xi Jun gave him some steamed buns, but Xi Qingxu really didn't have much of an appetite and shook his head to indicate that he wouldn't eat.
The two adults were eating on the other side of the bed, with Xi Qingxu sitting at the head of the bed and Lu Chuqing at the foot. The ward was quiet, with only their family present.
Feeling bored, Lu Chuqing took out her phone to play for a while, but when she glanced at it, she noticed that Xi Qingxu was staring at her again, and she finally couldn't resist.
He asked, "Xi Qingxu, didn't you take your phone?"
"…Um."
Although she didn't know why she asked that, Xi Qingxu still agreed.
When he got home, he went upstairs. He was so dizzy that all he wanted to do was sleep. When Lu Ying woke him up to go to the hospital, he forgot to bring his phone.
Having received a reply, Lu Chuqing moved her finger away from the match-3 game and landed on Penguin Video.
"Let's watch a movie together. I found a movie that's pretty good."
As she spoke, Lu Chuqing sat down next to Xi Qingxu. The movie she turned on was the one she had watched at Lu Linqi's house a while ago; she hadn't had a chance to watch the third one yet.
Xi Qingxu didn't say anything more, but moved her body to make room for her so that she wouldn't be so uncomfortable.
Lu Chuqing didn't stand on ceremony and found a relatively comfortable spot. She then had Xi Qingxu hold the phone, and the two of them watched the movie together.
The two adults nearby smiled at each other, seeing that the two children got along well.
