Before they had even watched half of the movie, Lu Chuqing and Lu Ying went home.
Since the IV drip would take a long time and it was late, Xi Jun told the two girls to go home first.
It happened to be Thursday, and Sunday would be over after class the next day, so Xi Jun asked Xi Qingxu for leave.
On Friday after school, Lu Chuqing was sitting in the car when Lu Linqi said to her, "Do you know the competitor I told you about before who's vying for first place?"
"I know, so what?" Lu Chuqing thought, I not only know, I also know him.
If her second brother knew that Xi Qingxu was the one who made him jealous, her cheap brother, she wondered how much he would question his existence.
Speaking of this person, Lu Linqi was very dissatisfied. "It is an indisputable fact that he is good at studying and is liked by teachers, but it is also an indisputable fact that he has no friends."
Lu Chuqing nodded in agreement. "So? What do you want to say?"
“I think he deserves to have no friends.” The boy’s face showed a sympathetic expression. “Yesterday morning I thought he probably had a fever, so I kindly asked him about it, but he didn’t appreciate it.”
"When I got to school today, I heard that he had a high fever and had to take leave. It's almost the end of the week, and the teacher wanted to find a classmate to help him with the homework, but everyone said they didn't know him well."
Lu Linqi sneered, "I've only ever met one person who could ruin a classmate relationship like this: Xi Qingxu."
After listening to him, Lu Chuqing wondered what this person had gone through that he couldn't even handle the most basic social interactions between classmates.
But then she thought back to her time with Xi Qingxu. Although the boy wasn't talkative, he always answered her questions and sometimes even started conversations on his own. Although their conversations never lasted very long, they weren't exactly strangers.
Lu Linqi was still thinking about sending the homework to Xi Qingxu. He hadn't added him on QQ, and he'd heard that Xi Qingxu wouldn't allow others to add him.
A girl's voice came from beside him, "Perhaps Xi Qingxu isn't that difficult to get along with. It's just that he gives the impression of being quiet, so people think he's hard to get along with."
Lu Linqi looked at her strangely, not understanding what was going on, why her younger sister was speaking to a complete stranger like that.
Noticing his gaze, Lu Chuqing wasn't afraid and continued, "Brother, why don't you try to talk to Xi Qingxu and get to know him like normal classmates? Maybe you'll find that he might be a good friend."
Lu Linqi finally couldn't hold back any longer and reached out to touch her forehead. "You don't have a fever either, do you?"
"Otherwise, why would you speak up for someone you don't even know? You used to never say much about things that didn't concern you."
Lu Chuqing raised her hand and slapped his hand away, then resumed her nonchalant tone, "Whatever, I was just saying. Whether we get along or not is your business."
After saying that, he looked out the car window, but Lu Linqi's words were still echoing in his mind.
Her brother is right.
She used to always stay out of things that didn't concern her, so why would she speak well of Xi Qingxu this time?
Suddenly, the image of the boy with a fever and wet eyes flashed before her eyes. She thought it was probably because Xi Qingxu was just too pitiful.
Xi Qingxu's fever subsided after his IV drip last night, but it hasn't completely gone away yet, which is related to the fact that he delayed seeing a doctor for a day.
After finishing his IV drip, he had nothing to do in the afternoon, so he went back to his old house. He told Lu Ying that he was going to get some warm clothes.
He moved in a hurry and didn't take more than two pieces of thick autumn and winter clothes with him, even though he didn't have many clothes to begin with.
Upon arriving at the destination, he gave the dusty house a quick cleaning and then looked for his belongings in his room.
In the innermost corner of the wardrobe, there was a storage box. Xi Qingxu took it out with both hands, opened the lid, and looked inside.
The items were neatly arranged, but they were a mixed bag. The most space was occupied by several notebooks, small notebooks with smaller pages. Xi Qingxu knew best what was written in them; they were all about Lu Chuqing.
The remaining items included empty lollipop wrappers and sticks, snack wrappers, and snack bags...
To some, this is simply collecting trash. But if you look closely, you'll notice that the wrapping paper and other items are all flattened, clean, and clipped together with small clips, categorized and placed together.
He stared at these things, remaining in that position for a very long time.
Something was calling out in his heart, but he couldn't hear it clearly and didn't know what the voice was saying.
It started raining again outside sometime during the day. The rain was pattering, not a downpour, but it was more disheartening than a heavy rain.
It started raining shortly after Lu Chuqing returned home. She changed out of her school uniform to wash it and took a shower. While drying her hair, she heard Lu Ying say that Xi Qingxu hadn't returned yet.
When she got back, Lu Ying told her that Xi Qingxu had gone back to the old house to get some warm clothes. Judging from what she said, he must have been gone for a while. It was raining outside again, and she hadn't seen him come back yet.
Lu Chuqing turned off the hairdryer and asked Lu Ying, "Mom, can't you get through to him on the phone?"
Lu Ying looked worried. "I don't know if the child had their phone on silent or if it was out of battery. I called twice but they didn't answer."
“His fever hasn’t completely gone down yet, and the fever reducers he takes make him sleepy. I’m worried he’ll fall asleep in the old house.”
"No one has lived there for a long time, and the blankets and other things haven't been aired out. If you actually sleep there, you might catch a cold."
Lu Chuqing took out her phone and called Xi Qingxu, but no one answered after the phone rang.
Seeing Lu Ying return to her room to change her clothes, she said, "Mom, should I go look for it?"
Lu Ying refused without even thinking, "It's raining outside, and the area around your Uncle Xi's old house is an old neighborhood with bad security. I'm worried about you going. I'll go instead."
But Lu Chuqing was worried about Lu Ying going alone, and insisted, "I'm also worried about Mom going alone, I'll go with Mom."
Upon hearing this, Lu Ying stopped insisting and said, "Okay, then Qingqing will stay with her mother."
The old house is a bit far away. Lu Ying has a car, but she doesn't drive it often because she lives at home, and her driving skills aren't very good.
As Lu Ying's car couldn't pick up speed, she became increasingly anxious. She rushed to her destination, but the neighborhood was too cramped, so she had to park the car on the roadside outside the gate.
The mother and daughter each held an umbrella, and Lu Chuqing also carried a long-handled umbrella. As they entered the residential area, a rustic and old-fashioned atmosphere greeted them.
This was Lu Chuqing's first time here. She felt that the place had a nostalgic atmosphere, but as Lu Ying had said, the security here was not very good, and anyone could come in at will.
As they went upstairs, several eccentric thugs with dyed hair, cigarettes, and bizarre clothes came downstairs noisily, shouting, "Damn it, that brat actually dared to come back! I'm going to beat him to death!"
