Chapter 49 Well, who told your son to be so disappointing?

Chapter 49 Well, who told your son to be so disappointing?

Zhang Chunxue replied casually, "Secretary Song found her a job as a cleaner at the town hospital. She went to report for duty at dawn."

"Huh?" Zhong Chengren was stunned, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

His shifty eyes widened as he sized Zhang Chunxue up and down, his tone filled with disbelief and suspicion: "Song Xingzhi? Could he really be that kind? Mom, he... he wouldn't have ulterior motives, would he?"

Zhang Chunxue was about to say a few words to explain, to say how good Song Xingzhi was, and to say that he was genuinely helping.

Before she could speak, Zhong Chengren lowered his voice and said mysteriously, "He wouldn't... have taken a liking to Zhou Mingli, would he? After all, even though Zhou Mingli has had a child, she's still one of the most beautiful women in our village!"

"Bang!"

The warmth Zhang Chunxue felt from Song Xingzhi, mixed with her disappointment and anger towards her son, was completely ignited by Zhong Chengren's outrageous words!

Her chest heaved with anger. She whirled around and began rummaging in the corner again: "Where's my rolling pin! I'm going to give you a good spanking today!"

When Zhong Chengren saw his mother's posture, he was so frightened that his soul almost flew away.

He jumped back with a "whoosh," standing three zhang away from Zhang Chunxue, and raised his hand to slap himself twice in the mouth.

"Mom! Mom! Please calm down! Look at my foul mouth! I'm talking nonsense! I'm just rambling! Please don't take it seriously!"

The ingratiating smile on his face was more unsightly than a cry.

Unable to find a suitable opponent, Zhang Chunxue was so angry that she was panting heavily. Pointing her finger at Zhong Chengren's nose, she cursed, "You're a rotten piece of pus in your own belly, you're no good, but you think everyone is as filthy as you!"

“Secretary Song is an upright man! He is a great benefactor to our family! If you dare to spout nonsense and ruin his reputation again, I will tear your mouth apart!”

Zhong Chengren nodded and bowed repeatedly: "Yes, yes, Mom is right! I was wrong, I was just being mean!"

"I... I just said it casually. After all... after all, everyone in the village says that Song Xingzhi is over thirty and still not married, so he probably... has some kind of problem..."

His voice trailed off as he spoke, clearly aware that what he was saying was unpleasant to hear.

"You still dare to talk!" Zhang Chunxue's eyes widened, and the anger that had just subsided was about to flare up again, as if she was about to rush over again.

Zhong Chengren was startled and quickly changed the subject, pointing to the two figures, one big and one small, in the corner of the yard: "Mom, Mom! Don't be angry! Look at what happened to my brother, it's one thing to be angry with my brother and sister-in-law, but Hongqing is so pitiful!"

"That's your own grandson! These days, which family doesn't cherish their grandson like the apple of their eye? It's only because you're so kind-hearted, Mom, that you still value your granddaughter so much!"

His words, ostensibly meant to persuade, actually carried a hint of disdain for Zhong Yuanyuan.

Zhang Chunxue's face instantly turned cold, as if covered with a layer of frost.

She spoke slowly and deliberately, her voice not loud, yet it carried immense force, striking Zhong Chengren's heart: "That is also your daughter, your own daughter, Zhong Yuanyuan."

Zhong Chengren felt uneasy under her gaze. He had originally wanted to say, "She's just a little girl, how can she compare to a guy?" But when he met Zhang Chunxue's cold gaze, he swallowed the words back.

He gave an awkward laugh and didn't dare to say anything more.

Listening to Zhong Chengren's dry explanation, Zhang Chunxue's anger not only didn't subside, but instead, due to the frustration of not finding a tricycle and her disappointment in this good-for-nothing son, it burned even brighter.

She was too lazy to waste any more words on Zhong Chengren; talking to that bastard was like casting pearls before swine.

"Get out!" Zhang Chunxue suddenly turned her head and pointed to the kitchen door. "Don't get in my way! I still need to make lunch for Xiaoxiao and the children!"

Zhong Chengren, holding Zhong Yuanyuan, was startled by his mother's sudden outburst.

He grinned sheepishly, not daring to say another word, and with the child in his arms, slunk out of the kitchen.

Once out of Zhang Chunxue's sight, Zhong Yuanyuan in Zhong Chengren's arms seemed to become a hot potato.

He glanced down at the little girl, a hint of impatience flashing between his brows.

Zhong Chengren didn't have the patience to take care of a child, especially a girl.

His eyes darted around, and he picked up Zhong Yuanyuan and headed towards Zhong Xiaoxiao's house in the courtyard, thinking of passing the little burden to his sister.

As soon as I stepped into the courtyard, I saw Zhong Chengfa squatting under the eaves, scratching something on the ground with a small twig, while Zhong Hongqing was playing with mud next to him. Both of them looked listless.

Zhong Chengfa, with his sharp eyes, caught sight of Zhong Chengren carrying Zhong Yuanyuan over. His lips immediately curled into a sneer, and he said sarcastically, "Oh, second brother, your daughter is quite precious these days!"

"Look how you're holding it, like it's your precious treasure, you don't want to let go of it, do you?"

"After all, you are the apple of my eye right now!"

Zhong Chengren sensed the barb in his older brother's words, paused, and curled his lip: "A little girl, I don't know what Mom cares about her so much."

Upon hearing this, Zhong Chengfa snorted coldly, stood up from the ground, and patted the dirt off his trouser legs.

"What's wrong with you being a little girl?" He glanced at Zhong Chengren sideways. "In my heart, you, this little girl, are much more precious than my big, chubby son!"

"If you treat Yuanyuan with more care, do you think your mother will mistreat you in the future?"

“Unlike me,” Zhong Chengfa said, his voice filled with resentment, “Mom doesn’t like Hongjuan, and as a result, Hongqing has become a thorn in her side. As her father, I naturally become superfluous!”

Zhong Chengren frowned, tightened his grip on Zhong Yuanyuan, and casually comforted her, "Big brother, Mom was just saying that in a fit of anger. Hongqing is her own grandson after all, how could she not love him?"

"Talking in anger?" Zhong Chengfa seemed to have heard the biggest joke in the world. "When she kicked Hongqing out, it didn't sound like she was talking in anger! And when she made me write down my divorce papers with Hongjuan, it didn't sound like she was talking in anger either!"

"No matter what, my son is still the eldest grandson of the Zhong family! And now, he's not even as well-received as this baby in your arms!"

His tone turned sarcastic again: "It's still better to have a daughter after all. You're not even grown up yet, and you're already enjoying the benefits."

Zhong Chengren finally realized what was going on.

After all that fuss, it turns out that Zhong Chengfa got a cold shoulder from the old lady, and now she's taking out her anger on him!

Zhong Chengren is not someone who can be easily manipulated.

He curled his lips into a roguish smile, his eyes turning menacing: "Well, that's because your son is so useless! He can't even compare to a baby girl who's still breastfeeding!"

His tone was even more sarcastic than Zhong Chengfa's: "Tell me, what good is having a boy? In the end, he'll just be a good-for-nothing!"
