Chapter 4 The night before departure

She angrily picked up the firewood stick in the corner and rushed into the kitchen, "You rascal, how dare you go to Li Lan to do things without telling your mother, and you call me godmother all the time. If you treat me as your real mother, I'll die!"

When Wang Shuning heard the door open, she thought it was Aunt Li coming to give her good news. However, as soon as she put down the spatula, her mother rushed in with a stick.

That look, the black-faced Rakshasa, was particularly terrifying.

She must have known that I went to see Aunt Li to get something done.

Wang Shuning dodged quickly, "Mom, isn't that just a sweet way of asking for favors? You taught me that."

The two chased each other around the yard for several rounds, but Song's mother didn't catch up. Instead, she ran herself to death. "Tell me, where did you get the money to buy the apples?"

Wang Shuning: "That was my lucky money since I was a child."

"Nonsense, I have been the one who received all your New Year's money since you were a child. After you turned ten, you followed your older brother and sister out to buy food on New Year's Eve. Where did your New Year's money come from?"

"Did you hide the eggs laid by your old hens and sell them? I said they seemed to lay less eggs in the past two days. Did you break the soy sauce yesterday or did you not buy it?"

Wang Shuning felt that he was really wronged, and could only loudly defend himself: "Mom, it's normal for the chickens not to lay eggs in such a hot weather. The soy sauce was really broken yesterday. I have never had the problem of spending money recklessly. I just wanted to go to the countryside, so I saved some private money in advance."

"The conditions in City D are even worse than those in City B, and it's far away from home. You're so heartless, you're going to piss your mom off to death so that your dad can find a new one." Song Guiying threw the stick in her hand to the ground, put her hands on her waist and began to feel sad.

"Why are you so unwilling to listen to advice, kid?"

As soon as Wang Jianguo walked to the door of his house, he heard Song's mother say to find a new one, so he didn't push the door open, but turned around and stood aside to eavesdrop. The mother and daughter were arguing, and he really didn't know who to help if he went back.

Anyway, my wife's anger will subside quickly, so I just wait a little longer.

So when Wang Jianjun and Zhang Xiuzhen came back, they saw their father standing at the door from afar, but the door was closed.

Could it be that my younger sister is not at home and the door is locked? This shouldn't be the case at this hour.

Wang Shuning saw that Song's mother had stopped beating her. She glanced at the chicken coop in the corner of the yard and said, "Mom, when I was out this morning, my eldest sister came back. She wanted to take our old hen back to her husband's house and asked me to give her the kitchen key."

Song's mother's eyes immediately stood up, and she glared and yelled, "What? That damn girl came back to beg for money again."

She hurried to the kitchen to check things.

Wang Shuning chased after her and shouted, "Mom, don't worry, I didn't give her the kitchen key. My eldest sister left empty-handed."

But Song's mother was still worried. After thoroughly checking the things in the cupboard, she breathed a sigh of relief and said, "The soup is almost dry. Come in."

Wang Jianguo pushed open the door only after he heard no movement in the yard.

Wang Jianjun and his wife were almost there, wondering, "It's not locked? Then why didn't they go in just now?"

When Zhang Xiuzhen went to the kitchen to help, she discovered that things were not going well between her sister-in-law and mother-in-law.

The sister-in-law's expression was not right, as if she was a little guilty, and she kept finding fault with Song's mother.

During the meal, Song Guiying said in front of the whole family: "Ning girl has moved from City B to City D."

Wang Jianjun frowned and blurted out: "Isn't that a lot farther from home?"

Wang Jianguo saw that his wife was silent. She clearly didn't agree last night, but why did she change it tonight? Something must have happened. "As long as Ningning is willing, it's fine."

Wang Shuning immediately picked up a portion of food with chopsticks and placed it in the bowls of Wang Jianguo and Song's mother respectively, "Yes, yes."

In the evening, Wang Jianguo asked Song's mother what was going on.

Song's mother told him about her little daughter's self-willed behavior. Now that the proof has been issued, it has finally gone her way.

Wang Jianguo placed the large water jar on the table beside the kang and said, "This child is smarter than before."

Song's mother curled her lips, still feeling angry. She didn't want to go to City B, where the conditions in City D were even worse. Isn't this suffering? "I think you are not thinking straight, you are too stubborn."

In the next few days, Wang Shuning packed up his things at home.

City D is located in the south. The temperature there is higher than that in Beijing in winter, and people there don’t sleep on a kang.

But there are also many disadvantages. There is a lot of farm work to do and it has to be done all year round. Droughts and floods occur every year and the harvest is not very good. It is just a hard place.

The night before leaving, Song's mother came to Wang Shuning's room with a small cloth bag.

"Here is a hundred yuan, and some food coupons, meat coupons, and industrial coupons. Keep them safe, don't lose them, and don't let pickpockets steal them. When you get to your destination, write me a letter and write down your address. I'll send you some more next year when we're a little more financially comfortable."

Song's mother sat by the bed and looked at her little daughter, who had no idea of the hardships she would face in the future. She was only worried. "When you get there, don't get involved in anything. Stay away from quarrels or fights. Medical conditions in the countryside are poor, and a minor illness or pain could cost you your life."

Song's mother continued to remind him, "Don't look for a partner in the countryside. If you really want to find one, remember to write back. Don't be like your sister and find someone with bad conditions."

It is impossible for the younger daughter to return to the city in a short period of time. The elder daughter's matter is in the way and the government will not agree.

Song Guiying held Wang Shuning's hand and gave her instructions for three or four hours, wishing she could pass on her half-life experience to her.

I was afraid that she would suffer alone in the countryside.

Wang Shuning looked at Song's mother patiently, nodding in response from time to time, without feeling annoyed.
