Chapter 94 School Starts

Aunt Ding sat down quickly and said, "I know. I saw it when Xiaogang walked you in the day before yesterday. Teacher Chen and her mother-in-law were still there, so I didn't come."

Wang Shuning nodded in response.

Ding Hui glanced around the room. Only a few days had passed, but the furnishings in the room had changed. That must be the radio in the corner.

"Teacher Wang looks so young. Is he married?" Ding Hui asked, looking at Wang Shuning.

Wang Shuning denied, "Not yet."

Ding Hui felt relieved. If another newlywed were to live apart from their husbands, they might not be able to stay for long and would have to leave again.

Look at this face, you can almost squeeze water out of it if you pinch it. Could the new teacher be less than 20 years old?

"When you came over the day before yesterday, I wanted to say hello, but Grandma Chen Yan was there, so I didn't come in. You don't know how difficult that old woman is."

Seeing Wang Shuning's eyes wide open and an expression of wanting to know, Ding Hui quickly continued to complain, "Originally, Teacher Chen's body didn't react much after she became pregnant, but after her mother-in-law came to the island to take care of her, she started vomiting all the bitterness. During the daytime break, the noises from the neighbors were particularly loud, complaining about this and that, and saying that Teacher Chen was too weak and couldn't give birth to a healthy grandson."

"I have wanted to speak up for Teacher Chen several times, but after all, this is someone else's family matter. They are willing to fight and be beaten. If I say more, I will offend them."

Wang Shuning was listening attentively. What she had seen and heard in the past two days matched what Aunt Ding said. She didn't know what kind of personality Chen Yan's husband had.

Then Ding Hui told Wang Shuning about the situation on the island and enthusiastically invited Wang Shuning to go to the market to buy vegetables in the afternoon.

"Okay, I don't know where the island market is."

There are a lot of vegetables in the yard, all planted by Chen Yan. Now that she is gone, they are all left to herself.

But Wang Shuning is a carnivore and can’t get enough of seafood. Now that he’s on the island, it’s natural for him to eat some.

In the afternoon, on the way to the market, Ding Hui said: "It only takes 20 minutes to walk there. They sell seafood and fruits, which are all produced and sold on the island. If you want to buy things from outside, you have to go to the supply and marketing cooperative, which is just in front. The place is not big, and you can buy oil, salt, sauce and vinegar there."

Wang Shuning: "That's convenient. Do I need a ticket to buy seafood on the island?"

Ding Hui shook her head. "No, they sell it at a very cheap price. The indigenous people on the island are relatively poor. If they sell it here, they can only support their families."

Soon Wang Shuning saw several people squatting on the roadside ahead.

When she got closer, she saw small wooden basins on the ground, filled with fish, shrimp, snails, crabs, and fruits that were common on the island. However, Wang Shuning already had all of these in her space, so she didn't buy any.

With Ding Hui next to them, Wang Shuning didn't dare to buy too much. After all, seafood is very easy to spoil, and most people only buy what they need that day.

Although Wang Shuning has space and is not afraid of it going bad, after all, there are outsiders around, so he has to pretend that nothing exists and wait until tomorrow to buy more.

The market and school are in opposite directions, and it takes nearly an hour to go back and forth. After school starts, it is always possible to save time by buying things for two or three days at a time and storing them in the space.

A pound of shrimp and a pound of snails cost only nine cents, which is really cheap.

Wang Shuning went home and dug two potatoes from the yard, cut them into strips, fried them, and used them to make dry-pot shrimps.

The school notified that registration will start the day after tomorrow, and school will start the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow Wang Shuning will go to school to make preparations and meet the principal and several other teachers.

During dinner, Ding Hui's child stood outside the yard and peeked at the new teacher. Wang Shuning then learned that she had a pair of twins, a boy and a girl, who would be in the fourth grade at the beginning of the school year and would be in his class.

The principal of the elementary school was a female teacher in her fifties whose home was on the island. When she saw Wang Shuning, she had a kind face and spoke in a very soft voice.

I don't know if this is true for everyone or just for myself.

Among the other four teachers, one, like Wang Shuning, was transferred from other places to provide support, and the other three were military family members.

Su Fangmei is a Chinese teacher for third and fourth graders. She also serves as a substitute teacher for seven subjects: nature, history, geography, morality, music, art, and physical education.

Wang Shuning almost couldn't close his mouth when he heard her say so many things in a row. Isn't this just treating people like cattle?

Seeing her so shocked, Su Fangmei raised her lips and joked, "Actually, these seven subjects should have been divided between Chen Yan and me, but she was pregnant and weak, so she assigned them all to me. I heard from the principal that you are a newcomer. If you have a strong ability to adapt, I guess I will have to let you take on a few subjects in a month."

Wang Shuning's neck was stiff, but he knew there was nothing he could do. Su Fangmei had so many subjects to teach, and if he didn't share the burden with her, the principal would doubt her teaching ability.

After all, she wasn't pregnant like Chen Yan.

As a result, less than a month later, on the third day of school, the principal called Wang Shuning over and said that he wanted her to teach history, geography, and ideology and morality classes to third and fourth graders.

The principal stood outside the classroom and watched Wang Shuning's class these two days. He said that she handled the class with ease. In order to avoid the children having to change new teachers after a month of classes, he simply let Wang Shuning start from the beginning. After all, these three courses only have one class a week and don't take much time.

"Okay, I will live up to the principal's expectations of me." After all, the monthly salary and various subsidies for this position add up to forty-three yuan. If I attend fewer classes than others, I will feel uneasy holding this money in my hands.

At dinner on Friday night, Captain Feng and his family of four sat around the table. Ding Hui asked the two children, "How is the class of the new teacher next door, Mr. Wang?"

Feng Guoqiang smacked his lips and replied, "Teacher Wang always asks us questions in class. Many students are afraid that she will ask them questions, and I am the same."

Feng Lili felt that her brother was wrong. "I think Teacher Wang is very gentle and has a very pleasant voice. I like Teacher Wang the most."

Seeing her daughter say this, Ding Hui happily turned her head and said to Feng Yunhao, "Teacher Wang will be off tomorrow, the weekend, so I want to take her to the beach."

Feng Guoqiang immediately asked: "Mom, I want to go too. Can you take me and my sister with you?"

"Aren't you afraid of Teacher Wang? Mommy will be with Teacher Wang tomorrow."

Feng Guoqiang stammered, "When Teacher Wang doesn't ask me questions, I like her very much."

Feng Yunhao asked Feng Guoqiang, "Did you answer the question that Teacher Wang asked?"

Feng Guoqiang lowered his head, put his mouth to the bowl and began to eat in silence.

Feng Lili raised her chin and said loudly: "My brother dozed off in class and didn't even know what question Teacher Wang asked. Then he was punished by Teacher Wang to copy math problems."

Feng Yunhao raised his eyes and glared at Feng Guoqiang, "You're sleeping in class and not studying hard. I think you're asking for a beating."

"Mom, Dad is going to beat me, and I don't know how to sleep." Feng Guoqiang put down his dishes and chopsticks and ran out of the house in an instant.

Feng Yunhao grabbed a feather duster and chased after him, "Don't run, stop right there."
