Chapter 53 The Headless Bride

These words shattered our worldview.

But what I'm most concerned about now is whether that bride is Bai Su.

I asked, "Was the bride's name Bai Su?"

Liu Junming didn't know why I asked that, but he still said, "I saw in the post that her name is Xiaoying, and it seems she is a master's student at a medical university."

Not Bai Su? Just how many people died in this village?

Liu Junming lit a cigarette and continued speaking.

Yingzi thought she had married the right person and, ignoring her family's advice, happily followed her husband here. Little did she know that this was just the beginning of her nightmare.

On her wedding day, Xiao Ying, wearing a red veil, waited happily for her husband to lift it, but instead, it was her father-in-law who appeared.

The groom's family tried their best to persuade Xiaoying, saying that if she did not follow the local customs, she would surely bring disaster upon herself.

But Xiao Ying was strong-willed and refused to give in. She even threatened to sue them.

With no other option, several relatives from the groom's family helped hold Xiaoying down, completely ignoring her cries and resistance.

The man's family showed no remorse or unease afterward.

In their distorted understanding, this was nothing out of the ordinary.

Because there were once several women with strong personalities like Xiaoying.

After enduring inhumane treatment and spending long hours locked in that foul-smelling, dark, and damp cowshed, they were ultimately overwhelmed by fear and had no choice but to compromise.

Once Xiaoying gives birth, she will be worn down like those other women, losing all her edges and becoming obedient, a tool for them to continue their lineage.

But who knew that Xiao Ying would jump from the third floor that very night.

His neck hit the wire used for drying clothes in the yard, and the impact cleanly severed his head.

"Scumbag!"

Su Meng was so angry she was grinding her teeth.

"So her husband tacitly agreed? How despicable is that! I wouldn't even dare write something like that in a novel!" The long-haired woman found it hard to believe.

Liu Junming said, "The post said that her husband was also scammed. He was drunk and only found out the next day. But I think he definitely knew, but he was unwilling to face it or dared not fight back."

"Didn't you call the police?" Attorney Zhou asked, frowning.

Liu Junming sneered: "Why wasn't it reported? They took Xiaoying to the mountain and buried her that very day. Then the whole village gave the same story: Xiaoying went up the mountain alone and disappeared. In the mountains like this, if you just bury someone anywhere, finding her is like looking for a needle in a haystack."

"Later, the police searched for two whole days, but in the end they could only treat the case as a missing person. Soon after, Xiaoying's parents also rushed over. They thought that Xiaoying had gone to the mountain to play, which led to her disappearance. They apologized to the man's family with a guilty look on their faces, saying that they had caused them a lot of trouble."

I asked, "And then what happened?"

Liu Junming stubbed out his cigarette: "Since then, strange things have been happening to the man's family. First, the livestock would go crazy at night, with the cattle and sheep running around in the pen, and some even crashing into the wall and dying."

"Later, one night, Xiaoying's father-in-law suddenly got up in the middle of the night. Xiaoying's mother-in-law was still half asleep and thought he was just going to the toilet, so she didn't think much of it. After waiting for a long time and not seeing him come back, she decided to go and check on him."

"When she got to the kitchen, she heard a strange noise. In the dim light, she saw her man lying in the oil pan, his body being fried until his skin was torn and bleeding. She was so frightened that she fainted."

Gao Qian took a big gulp of wine and said, "That's great! This kind of beast should be thrown into a frying pan."

Liu Junming paused, seemingly still shaken.

Not long after, Xiaoying's mother-in-law also met with misfortune; she was found smelling terrible.

Her face was contorted, her whole body was covered in scratches, some so deep that the bone was visible, and her tongue had been forcibly torn out by herself with her own hands in extreme fear and despair.

And those relatives who had helped hold Xiaoying down also died one after another in bizarre ways, each death more gruesome than the last.

Some were found hanged from the rafters of their own houses, their tongues sticking out long and their eyes bulging out; it's unknown what they saw before they died.

Some were covered in dense black spots all over their bodies, as if they had been eroded by some kind of deadly poison, and died in agony, curled up in a corner.

In the end, almost the entire man's family suffered a terrible fate, leaving only Xiaoying's husband.

But he also became insane, often wandering around the village, constantly shouting, "I didn't kill you."

He would be so frightened by the sight of a woman that his legs would go weak and he would immediately kneel down and kowtow.

This incident terrified everyone else in the village, and they sought out various experts to perform rituals, but to no avail.

Many people have seen a woman dressed in red floating around the village at night, accompanied by a mournful cry.

More than half a month later, a master suddenly came to the village.

After surveying the village, the master told the villagers that they must dig up Xiao Ying's remains and rebury them, and perform a series of rituals according to his instructions.

After the villagers did as instructed, the village finally returned to some peace.

Su Meng asked in a low voice, terrified, "Then why are we still afraid to go out? Didn't you say the master had already taken care of it? I... I need to go to the toilet, what should I do?"

Liu Junming sighed: "The master has dealt with part of it, but he said that Xiaoying's resentment is too strong and it will take ten years to completely dissipate. Right now, her abilities are only temporarily suppressed. As long as she doesn't go out at night, she can't harm anyone."

"So every night, no one dares to step out of their house easily. So it's best if we don't go out at night. If you need to go to the toilet, find something to do it inside the house. Be careful not to bump into Xiaoying if you go out."

"Clap clap clap!"

Gao Qian stood up and clapped: "The ghost story was good. I'm going to the restroom!"

Liu Junming immediately became anxious: "I'm telling the truth. I've met people who have been to this village, and they all say it's haunted and that you'll get into trouble if you go out at night."

Gao Qian sneered: "If ghosts really exist in this world, what's the point of the police? Ghosts can just take their revenge. What's the point of Attorney Zhou? Just have a Taoist priest perform a ritual and have the victim come forward to say who killed him. Why bother seeking justice?"

She then turned to me and said, "Handsome, you work at a funeral home, so you're the most qualified to answer whether ghosts exist or not. Do you think ghosts exist in this world?"

I glanced at her and said, "I believe him!"

Gao Qian looked astonished: "Aren't you an atheist? You believe in ghosts?"

I said, "I've seen that beggar before; he even threw stones at me today!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the entire room fell into a deathly silence.

However, at that moment, a loud knocking sound suddenly rang out.

"Bang bang bang bang"

No more, no less, exactly four.
