Chapter 1379 Better to live a wretched life than to die a good death

"Don't let them touch you! The Yin energy on the Tomb Children carries aged corpse poison and the evil aura of the tomb. If a living person comes into contact with them, their flesh will immediately rot!"

I shouted, then stepped into the Seven Star Steps, chanted incantations, and threw out three talismans made of black dog blood mixed with cinnabar like lightning.

"Heaven and earth are boundless, the universe borrows their power! The five stars suppress the brilliance, their light illuminates the dark abyss! Thousands of gods and saints protect my true spirit! Fierce evil and filth dare not offend me! Break! Break! Break!"

As I uttered the three "break" sounds, the three specially made talismans instantly transformed into raging flames!

The flames were no ordinary fire, but rather the most yang and intense fire that could ward off evil, instantly turning the dim corridor as bright as day.

The tomb children touched by the flames all let out shrill screams that were inhuman.

At the same time, their thin bodies were directly ignited, turning into clumps of bluish-gray.

"Damn, that's awesome, Brother Yan!"

Li Huai was stunned by the sight.

"Chen Yan, that was a brilliant move!"

Luo Tianhe patted me on the shoulder, and his ashen face from before was gone.

"You're nothing! Run!"

I said those words and then ran away.

As I passed by Xiaobin, I casually pulled him up and shouted something in his ear:

"If you don't want to become a dead man, get up and run!"

If he hadn't witnessed my display of power earlier, his fear would have dissipated considerably, and his legs would no longer be as weak as noodles.

He might not even be able to run!

"No, we were fighting perfectly fine, why did you suddenly run away!"

Luo Tianhe, being physically strong, quickly caught up with me and asked in my ear.

"Damn it, these tomb children are just the front-line monsters. The real source is what's below. That thing has the advantage of terrain, and there are countless cannon fodder like these. Let's not get entangled with these weaklings and get out of here first!"

I finished speaking in a hurried tone, and because I was running too fast, I was choked by the cold wind.

"Xiao Bin, how do I get downstairs?"

I turned to look at Xiaobing; after all, he was a resident here and knew the layout better than we did.

"The stairwell is over there!"

I really didn't expect that Xiao Bin, although he looked weak, could run quite fast.

He was panting heavily as he pointed to an inconspicuous green fire door next to the fire escape ahead.

"Holy crap, this is over twenty stories high, isn't there an elevator?"

As Li Huai ran off at breakneck speed, he asked with wide eyes.

"You fucking idiot, even if there's an elevator, would you dare to ride it?"

I couldn't help but shout angrily.

Li Huai immediately shrank back, thinking about taking the elevator, pressing buttons, and waiting for it to move slowly. He couldn't help but shudder and gave an awkward smile.

“This man is right, and we missed the elevator a long time ago.”

Xiao Bin added that he looks much better now than before.

We soon arrived at the stairwell. Luo Tianhe took the lead and smashed open the fire door, and we filed in.

"Run downstairs first," I shouted, then pulled a cinnabar thread to block the stairwell and pasted a few yellow talismans on it.

Although the setup was hastily arranged, it was able to hold them off for a moment.

Apart from the sounds of us running and eerie laughter, there was no other sound in the stairwell.

The cinnabar lines I left were quickly triggered, and my face immediately darkened. These tomb children were running much faster than us in the stairwell.

Sure enough, we hadn't even run a few floors when we could already see the tomb children chasing after us from above.

"Wait a minute, Chen Yan, they can jump right down, they're much faster than us!"

Luo Tianhe glanced back and suddenly shouted at me.

I gritted my teeth and forced out a few words:

"I know, I see it, do you have a better idea?!"

"Let's go downstairs, let's go in first, close the door, and then try to hold them off for a while. I'm fucking exhausted."

Li Huai, panting heavily, interjected, saying that he was really about to collapse; his legs were so weak from running.

I was dizzy and my mouth was dry from running, and my throat was very sore from the cold air.

"Alright, let's go straight to the next floor. Maybe there are people on that floor. When there are many people, the yang energy will be strong, and this thing won't dare to keep chasing it!"

I spoke quickly, a faint glimmer of hope still lingering in my heart.

When we pushed open the door to the next floor, we were immediately struck by the sign for 2F - the kitchen and logistics area.

Li Huai, who was at the back, slammed the door shut. Leaning against it, he panted heavily. Seeing us all staring blankly at the sign, he paused for a moment, scratched his head, and said:

"They've all run up to the second floor, do we still need to run that fast? It seems people's potential is truly brought out when they're forced to!"

"What the hell are you talking about? We've only gone up a dozen or so floors, the top floor is over twenty, do you think it's possible to get down to the second floor?"

I was almost laughing in exasperation at Li Huai, and couldn't help but curse.

This guy is outrageously stupid, and he even said that people's potential is only brought out when they are forced to.

"This is indeed the second floor where I work, but how come there's no one here in broad daylight?"

Xiao Bin swallowed hard, his voice trembling as he spoke. In truth, he already knew the answer in his heart, but he just didn't dare to say it aloud.

My heart sank. Although the yin energy here wasn't as strong as upstairs, a sense of resentment lingered here.

"Be careful, something's not right here."

I lowered my voice and warned him.

"By the way, are there any other stairs here? The kind that lead down?"

I looked at Xiaobin.

Although it seems the tomb boy has given up the chase, I still hope to get down there as soon as possible if possible.

"Yes, there is another staircase on the other side of the corridor."

Xiao Bin's voice was somewhat numb, as if he had been terrified.

Seeing this, I patted him on the shoulder.

"Cheer up, think of your uncle. He went to great lengths to save you, and even brought the three of us into this mess."

"That's right, stop looking like you're doomed. You may want to die, but the three of us don't!"

Luo Tianhe also offered words of comfort, though his words were not very pleasant.

"That's right, the words may be crude, but the principle is sound; it's better to live a wretched life than to die a good death."

Li Huai had calmed down enough, so he stepped away from the door he was leaning against and stood on tiptoe to look at the other end of the corridor.

After our persuasion, his eyes regained some vitality, and he led the way without saying a word.

We walked carefully down the corridor. There was something sticky on the ground, and our feet made a splattering, sticky sound.

The corridor was lined with closed iron gates with faded signs that read "Cold Storage", "Preliminary Processing Room", and "Waste Disposal".
