Chapter 1380 Fried Dough Sticks

Suddenly, I sniffed and smelled a rather peculiar odor.

Li Huai was the first to react.

I work at a funeral home, but I haven't had as much experience with cremation as Li Huai has.

After all, I'm just a cobbler, usually responsible for making the corpse look decent. But why would someone who wants the corpse to look decent choose cremation?

But Li Huai was different.

Although he was nominally a caregiver at Aoyama Mental Hospital, he was actually responsible for carrying corpses and cremation.

So in this respect, he is indeed much more perceptive than I am.

Li Huai stopped, swallowed hard, and looked at me:

"Yan, Brother Yan, why do I smell the burnt smell that's unique to burnt human flesh?"

I frowned.

"I smell it too. It does smell like a burnt corpse, but why does it smell so strange? It's very different from what I remember!"

Hearing me say that, Li Huai nodded like a chicken pecking at rice.

"I'm pretty sure it smells like burnt human flesh, but like you, I sensed something was wrong. What's wrong with this smell?"

After hesitating for a long time, Li Huai finally expressed his feelings.

"Why does this smell so good?"

Noticing the strange look in Luo Tianhe and Xiao Bin's eyes, Li Huai quickly waved his hand.

"Don't look at me like that. I'm not a pervert. Can't you smell it?"

After a long silence, Luo Tianhe finally nodded.

"This is the kitchen, so it's normal to smell some aromas here."

At that moment, I suddenly noticed that Xiao Bin, who had just calmed down, was now trembling like a leaf. If he hadn't been leaning against the wall, he would have collapsed to the ground by now.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

I couldn't help but ask, puzzled.

Xiao Bin didn't dare take another step forward. His face was deathly pale, his lips trembled as he pointed to the room ahead, and he hesitated for a long time before finally speaking:

"That's the deep frying room!"

"What happened to the deep frying room?"

I was completely confused for a moment, but then I suddenly remembered the rumors they had mentioned before.

There was once a chef who fell into a vat of boiling oil and was fried alive!

Suddenly, a chill crept up my spine.

Li Huai and Luo Tianhe reacted instantly, and Li Huai was on the verge of tears.

He said, "Why does it smell so good?!"

No matter what it is, the aroma always gets a boost after being deep-fried.

But if that thing is a corpse, then it's a bit strange!

"I didn't mean to disturb you, please don't be offended!"

Li Huai clasped his hands together and muttered to himself.

Just then, a sizzling sound came from behind the half-closed iron door, as if something was being fried in boiling oil.

At the same time, an even stronger, nauseating aroma of burnt meat mixed with the smell of hot oil wafted out from the crack in the door!

"Holy crap! What the hell?!"

Li Huai was so frightened that his face turned pale and he took several steps back.

"They're blowing something up inside!"

Li Huai's voice trembled as he spoke.

Suddenly I understood why those things stopped chasing: they were also afraid of what was here.

We were frozen in place, not knowing what to do, caught in a dilemma!

"Sizzle, sizzle,"

Meanwhile, the sound of something exploding could still be heard coming from the room, and I could also faintly hear extremely shrill screams.

Suddenly, the sound stopped abruptly.

Suddenly, an eerie silence fell over the room.

None of us dared to speak; we could all hear the heavy pounding of our own hearts.

"Crunch,"

To our astonishment, the door suddenly creaked open and was then pushed open.

In an instant, a wave of heat hit me, carrying with it an indescribable, eerie aroma of burnt meat.

Amidst the sweltering heat, a large, overweight figure dressed in a white chef's uniform slowly emerged.

Its skin has an extremely abnormal, overcooked, golden-yellow color with a hint of charred black, like crispy skin that has been repeatedly fried at high temperatures!

His face and arms were covered with huge, ruptured blisters, some of which were still oozing yellowish, oily pus.

Upon seeing this scene, we all felt a sudden nausea and vomiting.

In the end, Luo Tianhe couldn't hold it in any longer and turned around to vomit, almost throwing up his dinner from the night before.

Fortunately, the strange thing didn't react much to Luo Tianhe's actions.

He squinted—no, those things could no longer be called eyes. His eyelids had either melted from the high temperature or been burned off, and his eyeballs had vanished, leaving only two charred holes.

Although I don't know if this thing can actually be seen, it seems to be observing us.

Suddenly, he dragged his large body toward us.

With each step he took, the charred, cracked skin on his body would rustle and fall to the ground.

Yellowish, greasy fluid mixed with pus seeped from the crack, dripping onto the tiles and making a sticky sound.

I couldn't help but gag again. Now I finally understood why the ground was so sticky and difficult to walk on.

"Shouldn't we run away?"

Li Huai asked, trembling.

I was panting heavily when I glanced at Luo Tianhe, who was still vomiting.

"I'm too tired to run anymore, and are you going to leave my brother here to face this thing alone? We might as well see what tricks he's going to pull."

This damn thing didn't make a move for a while, so I'm happy to catch my breath.

After all, I was so tired that I was dizzy and couldn't even draw the talisman accurately.

After hearing what I said, Li Huai decided not to run away anymore. After all, even if the sky fell, there would always be someone taller to hold it up.

So he leaned against the wall, ignoring how dirty the ground was, and slowly slumped down.

The fried dough stick eventually stopped three meters in front of me.

I could clearly smell the eerie odor emanating from him, a mixture of the smell of fried food and the stench of a corpse.

Fortunately, I've gotten used to it. I survived the first wave and now I don't feel nauseous anymore.

Now I'm standing at the very front, and Xiao Bin and the others are either slumped over or standing motionless behind me.

The fried dough stick's swollen tongue slid out from the corner of its mouth, the tip of which was charred and cracked, like a piece of burnt tree bark.

Its tongue surface is covered with ruptured blisters filled with thick, yellow pus, making it look like the back of a toad at first glance.

It slowly licked its lips with its remaining half-tongue, leaving a shiny trail, and then the skin of its lips peeled off, revealing the tender red flesh underneath.
