Chapter 1464 Piles of Corpses

The steps were incredibly steep and covered in moss.

It's quite normal to break bones or fracture tendons if you're not careful.

Hearing my reminder, the three of them nodded solemnly.

I gripped the powerful lightning bolt and the yellow talisman in my hand, took a deep breath, and was the first to step onto the stairs.

My foot slipped on my first step and I almost fell.

The moss was more slippery than I had imagined.

I had to move slowly, afraid that I would fall if I wasn't careful.

After walking for a while, I finally saw the rusty iron gate and couldn't help but frown.

There was indeed a blurry raised pattern on the sheet metal, but it was so badly rusted that all you could make out was an inverted, somewhat distorted gourd shape.

But I always felt that the thing was less like a gourd and more like a stretched and deformed human figure.

This iron gate is so rusty that its protective ability is about the same as that of a thin wooden board.

I took two steps back to help him, then kicked him away and shone my flashlight into the space behind me.

We seemed to have arrived at a platform. The ground was a pitted concrete floor covered with a layer of thick, black sewage that emitted an even more unpleasant odor.

"Ugh, is this place a sewer?"

Zhang Qiang gagged and pinched his nose as he guessed.

"The sewers can't be that big, can they?"

I casually replied to him and then scanned the area with my flashlight.

The platform is about ten square meters in size and is completely empty.

But my gaze was quickly drawn to what was directly in front of me.

Right in front of the exit of the steps was a huge, heavy iron gate!

The door was tightly closed, and the door panel and frame were covered with thick, layered dark red rust.

On the walls on both sides of the iron gate, as far as the eye could see, there were countless broken mirrors piled up in layers!

The large ones are the size of washbasins, while the small ones are only the size of a fingernail. Many of the mirrors are covered with a thick layer of dust and grime, but some still reflect a faint, cold light when illuminated by a flashlight.

As Luo Lin and Li Huai's eyes gradually became unfocused, I looked at the jade talismans hanging from their waists, which were already turning murky.

There's something wrong with this mirror. If we let them keep looking at it, they might get controlled!

Thinking of this, I immediately shouted coldly:

"Look down, don't look in the mirror!"

Li Huai and Luo Tianhe shivered, as if waking from a nightmare, and quickly looked down at their toes.

I looked at Zhang Qiang, who was also staring at the mirror, but he seemed unaffected.

Is being a police officer really that useful?

He was upright and righteous, and had no fear of such petty tricks.

Of course, being a second-rate cobbler is fine too. These mirrors that could shake Luo Tianhe and Li Huai are perfectly normal to me.

"Wait, there seems to be something in the water?"

Li Huai, who had lowered his head, suddenly let out a terrified scream.

What could have scared him like that?!

I shone my flashlight into the thick, black sewage at Li Huai's feet.

The next moment, I froze.

There appeared to be human bones in the sewage!

I carefully parted the mud with my toes, revealing a small section of human finger bone, blackened by the sewage.

Not only that, as I kept sweeping the flashlight across the mud, more tiny fragments of human bones emerged from the mud—finger bones, ribs, and even skulls!

I couldn't help but feel a chill run down my spine; the ground here seemed to be made up of shattered human bones.

I was just thinking that the mastermind behind this might not have harmed many people, but now it seems that he has probably killed hundreds!

"These, these must be bone fragments dug out of the ground a long time ago, otherwise how could there be so many?"

Luo Tianhe's jaw trembled as he guessed.

I crouched down, ignoring how stinky the sewage was, picked up a bone, pressed it with two fingers, and rubbed the surface texture. Then I stood up and said:

"These bones are no more than twenty years old; this guy must have killed them."

At this point, I couldn't help but look at Zhang Qiang.

These dead people were probably not normal residents; they were likely homeless or similar individuals.

After all, no matter how incompetent the police are, they can't just let him kill so many normal people!

Even if those homeless people die, no one will report it to the police.

Some police officers may have even noticed that the number of homeless people in the city is decreasing, but they haven't done anything about it.

They didn't even think about delving into the reasons behind it; they probably even thought it was better this way!

After all, the presence of these homeless people only affects the appearance of the city.

Zhang Qiang lowered his head when he saw my scrutinizing gaze.

He was smart and understood what I meant.

He also felt ashamed of his identity.

After all, even if they are homeless, they are still citizens, and they just disappeared without any police concern.

They were left to die a gruesome death, without even a complete body; their bone fragments were scattered on the ground.

Just then, we heard a tooth-grinding scraping sound.

The rusty iron gate was now shedding iron filings in a steady stream, as if it were about to open.

As the iron filings continued to fall, the iron door slowly opened a crack.

A cold, damp wind blew by, and a stench ten times stronger than before, mixed with the smell of blood and formaldehyde, howled out from the crack in the door.

This time, Luo Tianhe and Zhang Qiang couldn't hold back and started vomiting profusely, bending over.

My face turned deathly pale, and I clenched the yellow talisman in my hand.

Soon, the iron gate was fully opened, revealing a dark area inside, like the entrance to hell, waiting for us to enter.

I didn't move, but stood still and observed.

Behind the rusty door, on the wall, there were some unrecognizable talismans crookedly carved with dark red, dried, and blackened bloodstains, looking extremely sinister.

After Luo Tianhe and Zhang Qiang finished vomiting, I whispered:

"The real person should be inside. Once we pass through this door, we will be able to see the truth."

Luo Tianhe cleared his throat; his face was pale from vomiting so hard. He gritted his teeth:

"Damn it, I want to see what other disgusting things are behind the door. Anyway, I've already thrown up!"

“That’s right! I even threw up my leftovers, so I’m fearless now.”

Zhang Qiang wiped his mouth and said fiercely.

Li Huai shrugged and spread his hands, indicating that he was fine with anything.

Seeing this, I took the lead and squeezed through the door.

Suddenly, the view opened up, only to be filled with an indescribable darkness and a complex interplay of reflections.

Just like in front of me, the room is full of mirrors, all kinds of mirrors, including a complete old dressing mirror, made of pear wood.

There are also modern full-length mirrors, leaning diagonally against the stone wall.

These mirrors, though seemingly arranged haphazardly, subtly follow a certain pattern.
