Chapter 474 The Oriole Stalks the Cicada

If Iwai nosuke hadn't held a higher position than them and hadn't received the support of Captain Akita Akihito, they wouldn't have agreed to let their comrades and colleagues take such a risk!

Meanwhile, the two unfortunate souls who were used as bait, Yuki Morita and his colleague Yosuke Mitani, were preparing to leave the department store.

"Damn it, Iwai, that bastard, I'll kill him one day, I swear!" Morita Yuki muttered under his breath.

He was dressed as a lieutenant-level officer, walking in front of him. The Japanese officer wearing the rank of colonel and a crisp uniform was none other than his colleague, Yosuke Mitani.

When Yosuke Mitani heard Yuki Morita's complaint, he chuckled bitterly in a low voice, "You're still complaining? I'm the one who's really in the worst situation. If someone makes a move, I'll be the first target!"

Morita Yuki rolled his eyes and said, "Who told me I'm so unremarkable-looking? Even in your uniform, I don't look like a colonel!"

Both of them were considered trash by Iwai nosuke. They were chosen to act as bait in this operation. Japan's intelligence agencies are highly disciplined, and although they were unwilling, they had to carry out this mission.

However, Iwai nosuke's previous order was for Morita Yuki to disguise himself as a colonel and for Mitani Yosuke to be his bodyguard. But Morita Yuki was not good-looking and even looked somewhat sleazy. When he put on the colonel's uniform, he was full of flaws. In the end, he had no choice but to choose Mitani Yosuke.

As everyone knows, this was Iwai nosuke's malicious act of settling a personal score. But as long as they didn't act as bait, they wouldn't want to offend Iwai nosuke.

“We need to be careful today. We used to have two guards, but today we’ve assigned you alone. That guy Ishii is deliberately trying to lure them into making a move. We need to keep a close eye on things!” Yosuke Mitani said, while cautiously observing his surroundings and occasionally reaching for the gun holster at his waist.

"Don't be so tense. You're making me nervous too. We've been pretending for so many days, and nothing's happened, right? Don't worry, I'll protect you!" Morita Yuki comforted her.

"It's precisely because of you that I'm worried!"

"You bastard! You don't appreciate kindness!"

As the two were talking, three men walked over from the other end of Huaizheng Street. The one in the lead was Takeshita Shinya, who was wearing a suit.

The two men behind him were also dressed in suits. One was in his forties, not tall, and had an ordinary appearance, but his eyes were clear and deep, and he had an elegant demeanor.

Another young man, strong and slightly tall, looked around warily.

Shinya Takeshita walked ahead and turned to the middle-aged man, saying, "Mr. Otani, this is called Huaizheng Street. It's a famous street in Shanghai. It's a hub for small commodities, with many exquisite handicrafts. If you like them, you can buy some to send back to Japan for your family and children to see. They're quite interesting!"

Looking at the crowds on the street, Hitoshi Otani exclaimed, "Shanghai truly lives up to its reputation as the largest metropolis in the Far East. We've been traveling for so long, and the streets here are still so prosperous. It's truly astonishing!"

Shinya Takeshita quickly smiled and said, "The most prosperous place in Shanghai is actually the French Concession, which is known as the Bund. The Huangpu River is lined with high-rise buildings and ferries are constantly flowing on the river. That's what you call a prosperous and splendid place!"

“Takeshita-kun, you’re talking too much. The French Concession is not under our jurisdiction. Mr. Otani’s safety is our top priority!” the young man beside him said coldly.

"Abe, you're being incredibly rude!" Hitoshi Otani said in a deep, displeased voice without turning his head.

"Hey, please forgive me!" Abe Yoshiaki quickly bowed and apologized to Takeshita Shinya.

"Abe-kun, you flatter me, you're too kind!" Takeshita Shinya quickly returned the greeting. He knew that even this bodyguard, Abe Yoshiaki, was a believer of the Japanese samurai class, and not someone a lowly intelligence agent like himself could afford to offend!
