Chapter 984 Changing Medicine on a Rainy Night

Bi Wenxiang had changed into clean clothes and leather shoes, looking refreshed, and walked in.

Luo Xingchao quickly stepped forward and asked, "How did it go? Was it successful?"

Bi Wenxiang smiled and nodded, saying, "Everything went smoothly, except for some noise during the operation. I observed for a while longer, and luckily the weather cooperated. The heavy rain today provided cover for the operation. Apart from the patrol team, there wasn't a single guard outside."

Luo Xingchao was relieved and continued, "Clean up all your belongings from when you were on the move and bring them here to me."

Bi Wenxiang was taken aback and replied, "That's too dangerous!"

“It’s more dangerous to leave it with you. Regardless of whether the operation succeeds or not tomorrow, Li Zhiqun will definitely find out that someone has entered the infirmary. He will likely search everywhere. If it’s left with me, no one will dare to search it. Even Li Zhiqun won’t dare to force it.”

Luo Xingchao was telling the truth. At the No. 76 Special Agent Headquarters, his status was exceptional. Unless he was caught on the spot during an operation, no one could trace him back to him in the aftermath. It was precisely because of this that Ning Zhiheng did not allow him to participate in operations personally. He was always the one who searched other people's offices. Even Li Zhiqun did not dare to search his office.

Bi Wenxiang thought about it and realized that made sense. He immediately turned around and left. Before long, he brought back the raincoat and rain boots that had been wiped clean, as well as the keys, towel, and the small medicine bottle.

He dared not discard these things carelessly. There were many shrewd agents in the 76th Special Agent Headquarters, and if they fell into their hands, the consequences would be unpredictable.

Luo Xingchao gestured for him to go back and rest, then put all his belongings into a suitcase, locked it in a filing cabinet, and only after everything was tidied up did he feel a little more at ease.

The next morning, the heavy rain that had fallen all night finally stopped, and the air was filled with a fresh scent. Wu Zhenming, the captain of the Second Action Team of the Special Agent Headquarters, walked out of his residence under the protection of a group of guards.

The situation had been very tense for some time. The night before last, Wu Zhenming's Second Action Team also participated in the retaliatory operation, and both sides suffered casualties. Fortunately, yesterday he heard Li Zhiqun's order to bring the conflict between Ding and Li to an end and stop all retaliatory operations, which made him feel relieved.

However, he remained vigilant and took ten guards with him as he headed from his residence to the base of the Second Action Team.

The car slowly drove out of the courtyard gate, escorted by two other cars, one in front and one behind. His residence was not far from the encampment, only about a ten-minute drive away. The main problem was that there were too many people in downtown Shanghai, and vehicles could hardly move on the streets. Otherwise, it would only take a few minutes.

The vehicle quickly turned onto a street, the only way to the Kangjiaqiao post station. However, there were many pedestrians, so the driver had to slow down. No one seemed to mind, as this was the usual way when they came here.

But at that moment, a burst of gunfire suddenly rang out, and all the windows of Wu Zhenming's car were shattered at the same time. Because the shots were fired at the same time, it seemed as if there was only a loud bang. The driver and a bodyguard were hit at the same time and slumped into their seats.

Almost simultaneously, several pedestrians on the roadside suddenly threw several hand grenades from their hands, accurately throwing them into the car through the broken window. Several loud explosions rang out, and the car was violently shaken, swaying back and forth on the street before crashing into a utility pole and coming to a stop.

Everything happened extremely suddenly. The gunman and the pedestrians coordinated perfectly. Just as Wu Zhenming's car passed by these pedestrians, the gunman suddenly attacked, and the pedestrians immediately threw grenades and fired shots. All the actions were as smooth as water, as if the whole process had been rehearsed hundreds of times. The attack was completed in a short moment.

The guards in the two cars were so startled by this sudden change that they immediately stopped their cars, drew their guns, opened the car doors, and tried to find the attacker and rescue their captain.

However, gunmen had already ambushed them on both sides of the street. They fired first, trapping the guards inside the car and rendering them unable to move. Moreover, the gunmen's marksmanship was terrifyingly accurate. The bullets were fired in rapid succession, and as soon as they made contact, the guards were hit one after another, covered in blood, and collapsed in their seats.

The bullets struck the car's exterior with a series of loud thuds, then stopped after a moment. Just then, someone shouted, "Instructor, there are still survivors inside!"

"Never mind them. Minister Ding said we'll only kill the ringleaders to avenge our brothers; we'll spare the lives of the others!"

Then came the sound of footsteps, which quickly faded into the distance, leaving the street deserted. All the pedestrians had been frightened by this sudden turn of events and scattered in all directions, disappearing without a trace. Only the three cars remained, standing alone in the middle of the street.

After a long while, two heads slowly rose from the lead escort car. These were the only two remaining guards who had narrowly escaped the attack. They were terrified as they listened to the commotion in the car, keeping their heads down and waiting quietly for a long time. Only when they realized there was no more movement outside did they dare to peek out.

They got out of the car, trembling, and staggered to Wu Zhenming's car, looking out through the window.

All that could be seen inside the car was scattered blood and pieces of clothing. The driver, the bodyguard, and Wu Zhenming in the back seat had all been blown up, covered in blood and blurred beyond recognition, and had been dead for some time!
