At the headquarters of Special Agent No. 76, Luo Xingchao looked out the window at the torrential rain, secretly plotting something.
Today, Li Zhiqun returned to the Special Agent Headquarters from the Shadow Agency and immediately ordered all action teams to cease their attacks on Ding Mo's forces. As the Chief had predicted, the revenge plan was halted after only one day due to the premature intervention of the Japanese.
This result was indeed extremely disappointing to Luo Xingchao; a good show had just begun when it was abruptly stopped.
However, what he is more concerned about now is Bi Wenxiang's actions tonight. Everything is ready, and they must act today.
Because it was a rainy night, the guards in the compound stayed inside their rooms and didn't come out. The compound was a gray, watery mess, and everything in the distance looked blurry.
Before long, Bi Wenxiang knocked on the door and entered. He came to Luo Xingchao and reported, "Chief, there are far fewer guards in the courtyard now, and several battalion commanders have returned to their posts. It seems that the two sides have truly reached a ceasefire."
Previously, in order to deal with the tense situation, the five action teams stationed in various parts of Shanghai had sent people to guard the compound at No. 76 Jesfield Road, fearing that Ding Mo might push them too far and make a desperate attack. Now that the ceasefire has been reached, they have all withdrawn back to their respective posts.
Luo Xingchao didn't turn around, his gaze still fixed on the view outside the window, and slowly said, "I know, these guys got off easy!"
Bi Wenxiang continued, "However, Wu Shicai doesn't seem to be in his office."
Luo Xingchao frowned. Wu Shicai's First Action Team was stationed at the headquarters of Special Agent No. 76. Where would they be at this time?
After he returned, following Ning Zhiheng's instructions, he sent people to keep a close eye on the whereabouts of these key cadres. However, Wu Shicai had not shown up, which made Luo Xingchao feel a little regretful. He knew that the director must be looking for a target to take action against. Now it seemed that Wu Shicai's whereabouts could not be grasped for the time being, so he had no choice but to let him go for the time being.
He turned to look at Bi Wenxiang and asked, "Is everything ready?"
"It's all arranged. I've been making excuses to stay on duty at headquarters for the past two days, and today is no different. I plan to wait until late at night, until the staff on duty are sound asleep, before making my move."
"Okay, don't push yourself. If there's a problem, stop immediately and we'll find another opportunity."
"Yes, I will be careful!"
Around 2 a.m., the rain was even heavier than in the first half of the night. There was already a lot of water in the yard. The heavy rain fell from the sky like beads falling from a broken string, hitting the ground and creating bubbles.
Wearing a raincoat and rain boots, with a rain hat covering his entire face, Bi Wenxiang appeared at the door of the special agent headquarters' medical room, looked around, and then gently pushed the door open and entered.
He had already observed that the door to the infirmary was not locked at night, in order to deal with emergencies.
However, all the rooms inside were locked. He found himself at the door of a room where Chen Zhaohua was seeing patients.
He took out a key from his pocket. It was a key he had specially made after stealing the impression from Chen Zhaohua's key when he made an excuse to see a doctor a couple of days ago.
He had been preparing for this operation for a long time, and all the details had been taken into consideration. He inserted the key, gave it a gentle turn, and the lock snapped open.
But just then, the sound of tables and chairs being moved came from the doctor's duty room next door. Bi Wenxiang reacted quickly, his fingers gently snapping the lock back on, and then he quickly retreated to the corner of the corridor, quietly waiting. But after a long time, the sounds inside quieted down again.
Bi Wenxiang breathed a sigh of relief, guessing that the doctor on duty had woken up in the middle of the night to drink water or for some other reason. However, Bi Wenxiang waited for nearly twenty minutes to make sure there was no problem before quietly returning to the door of the examination room.
I unlocked the door again with the key, gently pushed the door open and went in, then turned around and closed the door tightly. Because it was a rainy night, there was no moonlight, and the room was pitch black.
He took out a flashlight, turned it on, and the beam swept across the room, allowing him to clearly see Cheng She. He quickly went to the medicine cabinet, gently opened it, and found Chen Zhaohua's usual medicine box for house calls.
Bi Wenxiang didn't move the medicine box. Instead, he unfastened the leather buckle, opened the lid, and quickly found a large glass bottle containing more than half a bottle of topical white powder. He unscrewed the cap and took out a small glass bottle from his pocket, which also contained some white powder.
He carefully poured the white powder into the white medicine bottle, but he dared not pour too much. If he added too much medicine, it would attract Chen Zhaohua's attention. Medicines were extremely precious in this era, even in the Special Agent Headquarters. Everyone had a general idea of how much medicine they had in their medicine box.
Seeing the two powders mixed together, Bi Wenxiang was still worried that others might notice something amiss, so he used a cotton swab to stir the white powder evenly to make sure no one could spot the secret before gently screwing the cap on.
Next came the step-by-step reconstruction. Bi Wenxiang was a seasoned special agent, so these tasks were not difficult for him. He reconstructed all the traces from memory, then took out a towel and wiped away the footprints and water stains on the ground where he had stepped. He walked backwards to the doorway, making sure there were no loopholes, before opening the door and leaving.
He locked the door again, and just like before, wiped away the footprints and water stains backwards until he reached the door of the infirmary. Only then did he put away the towel, turn around and look around. It was still pouring rain, and the surroundings were pitch black and confusing. He pulled up his rain hat and rushed into the rain and mist, quickly disappearing from sight.
In the office, Luo Xingchao paced anxiously back and forth. Bi Wenxiang's departure had taken much longer than expected, which made Luo Xingchao extremely anxious. Fortunately, at that moment, the door was pushed open.
