Chapter Five: Unexpected Changes

The two talked for more than half an hour before ending their conversation. When Ning Zhiheng returned to his office, Liang Deyou said to him, "Zhiheng, did you know Team Leader Wei before?"

Ning Zhiheng immediately knew that Liang Deyou had figured something out; after all, with a few more years of experience, one can usually discern certain things.

"Not at all, Team Leader Wei is my senior from school, we were just catching up." Ning Zhiheng had no intention of hiding his relationship with Wei Liangbi, so there was nothing to worry about. Besides, it was necessary for them to know that he had connections, so that others could better understand how to treat him, which was good for everyone.

Hiding things will only make things worse. As for the so-called "pretending to be weak to take advantage of others," it is a very foolish behavior in real society.

If you usually act weak and vulnerable, someone will definitely try to bully you. Then, when you reveal your background and connections, conflict has already occurred, and enmity has been formed.

Those who cannot defeat you have already sown the seeds of hatred. Even if they swallow their anger for now, they will seek revenge sooner or later.

People with similar backgrounds are now in a difficult position, so they might as well escalate the conflict and fight each other to the death.

If you happen to run into someone with a more powerful background than you, then don't say anything, just consider yourself unlucky!

It's better for everyone to be open and honest, with no connections to give way and those with connections to be wary. This way, everyone can get along and things will be fine!

Having been a seasoned veteran in the workplace for many years in his previous life, he understood this principle.

Wang Shucheng was simple-minded and didn't think much of it.

Shi Hong wasn't surprised at all. He was originally a confidant of Wei Liangbi, and Wei Liangbi had already mentioned Ning Zhiheng and Wang Shucheng's situation to him before. Otherwise, do you think he was really such an easy person to talk to?

However, it is obvious that Ning Zhiheng has a closer relationship with the team leader, otherwise he would not have spoken to Ning Zhiheng alone.

Although Liang Deyou was usually reserved and didn't smile much, he was still good at social etiquette. He smiled and said, "Since you're the team leader's little brother, then you're no stranger to us. From now on, let's cooperate sincerely and get along well. Don't be shy!"

Ning Zhiheng showed no arrogance whatsoever, and said respectfully, "Captain Liang and Brother Hong are both my seniors and mentors. Please guide me if there is anything I cannot do!"

This attitude pleased the two greatly, and they immediately felt much better about Ning Zhiheng. He was sensible and knew how to behave, which made him easier to get along with in the future.

The atmosphere immediately became much more harmonious, and everyone chatted for a while, feeling that their relationship had improved considerably.

After get off work that day, Ning Zhiheng and Wang Shucheng rented two small houses nearby and settled down temporarily.

That evening, Liang Deyou and Shi Hong hosted a welcome dinner for the two at a tavern. Wei Liangbi also attended, and the group enjoyed drinks and conversation in a harmonious atmosphere.

The next day, Liang Deyou gathered all the members of the First Action Team and introduced Ning Zhiheng and his companion to everyone.

Ning Zhiheng carefully observed these team members and could tell that they were all capable and strong young soldiers, agile and well-trained! They were no less than graduates of regular military academies. He couldn't help but nod in approval. Compared to the current quality of the National Revolutionary Army, these people were definitely elite.

The work of the Military Intelligence Bureau is sometimes urgent and sometimes relaxed. Most of the daily tasks are notified by the Intelligence Section to the Operations Section, and then the officers of the Intelligence Section lead the operations teams to carry out field missions.

Ning Zhiheng had only enjoyed two days of relaxation when he was about to embark on his first field mission.

On this day, Wei Liangbi pushed open the door and entered, his face serious, and ordered: "Immediate notification from the intelligence department: all plainclothes officers of the Third Action Team, assemble immediately and prepare to depart!"

Upon receiving the order, the four officers of the Third Action Team did not dare to delay and notified the waiting team members to assemble at the drill ground downstairs.

Also arriving at the same time was a young captain from the intelligence department. Liang Deyou introduced him as Huang Taoguang.

The operatives boarded military trucks, while several officers sat in a military jeep. Huang Taoguang gave a brief overview of the situation.

Just a month ago, a rickshaw driver accidentally fell while pulling his rickshaw, and his passenger also fell to the ground. The passenger angrily cursed at the driver and left without paying.

This was supposed to be a very ordinary thing, but in his haste, he blurted out a very short sentence of Japanese, so short that it was almost inaudible if you weren't paying attention. The rickshaw driver had made a wasted trip, didn't receive a penny, and left, resigned to his bad luck.

At that moment, a patrol officer nearby witnessed the scene. Coincidentally, this officer knew a little Japanese and, upon returning to the police station, reported the incident to his superior. The police chief, keenly aware that something was amiss, and given the extremely tense relations between China and Japan, everyone was highly sensitive to any topics or situations concerning Japan. He immediately reported the matter to his superiors, and the report eventually reached the Military Intelligence Department.

The intelligence unit immediately mobilized and, through the patrol officer, quickly located the rickshaw driver. They discovered that he had picked up the passenger on Beihua Street, and after staking out the area for two days, they finally found him. The driver identified the man, confirming his identity.

The middle-aged man named Fu Cheng was an ordinary clerk at a trading company. He lived alone in a house on Beihua Street. His social connections had no connection with Japan, and the investigation records did not indicate that he spoke Japanese. Therefore, the Japanese sentence he suddenly uttered was very strange, especially since it came out so naturally in that situation, leading to the conclusion that this person was likely a hidden Japanese spy.

Based on this information, the intelligence department placed this person under surveillance. Meanwhile, the telecommunications department also monitored the radio stations on Beihua Street.

Nanjing, as the capital and the nation's political and economic center, boasts numerous government agencies and countless well-connected commercial companies. The sheer number of military and commercial radio stations is overwhelming, making management extremely difficult.
