Chapter Five: Unexpected Changes

However, if a specific location is designated and targeted monitoring of a particular area is conducted, it is still possible to uncover some information.

The telecommunications department quickly discovered three frequently used radio stations on Beihua Street, two of which were registered commercial stations. The third station, however, was unregistered.

Therefore, the intelligence department suspected that the radio station was connected to this suspicious person named Fu Cheng. After monitoring the target for several days, the intelligence department found that his movements were very regular. He only went back and forth between his business and residence every day and never went anywhere else. They also did not find anything unusual in his social interactions.

After so many days without progress, the intelligence department finally lost patience and decided to carry out an arrest, resorting to torture to extract a confession, which led to today's arrest operation.

Huang Taoguang took out a photo from the folder. The photo was taken from a distance. The person in the photo had his face half-turned, was of medium build, and was wearing a slightly worn suit.

"This is a photo taken from a distance during surveillance; it's not very clear!"

Ning Zhiheng and the others took a look and could make out the general features. Liang Deyou said, "Let the team members take a look later, so there won't be any mistakes!"

With the cause and effect explained, and the vehicle nearing Beihua Street, Liang Deyou ordered all members to disembark beforehand and, in order not to alert the target, to quickly enter the Beihua Street area on foot in batches.

Fu Cheng lived in a secluded alleyway in the neighborhood. There weren't many pedestrians around. At that moment, an undercover officer from the intelligence department, responsible for surveillance, approached him.

Huang Taoguang asked, "Is there any movement from the target right now?"

"No, as usual, once I entered my residence, I didn't come out again."

Huang Taoguang nodded to Liang Deyou, who waved his hand: "Shi Hong and Shu Cheng each take ten men to block off the front and back alleys. No one is allowed to enter. Remember, they must be alive! Try not to use guns, and if you do, don't shoot vital organs. Understand?"

Liang Deyou, along with Ning Zhiheng and the remaining team members, quietly arrived at Fu Cheng's courtyard gate. With a gentle wave, a nimble team member leaped over the wall and quickly opened the gate.

The group filed in quietly, reaching the door. At Liang Deyou's signal, several team members kicked the door open and rushed inside.

Ning Zhiheng wanted to rush in too, but Liang Deyou stopped him. Ning Zhiheng looked at Liang Deyou in confusion, and Liang Deyou shook his head slightly.

In front of his team members, Liang Deyou couldn't say it outright. In dangerous operations, it was natural to arrange for these foot soldiers to rush to the front, as the officers didn't need to take such risks.

Moreover, Ning Zhiheng clearly has connections within the Military Intelligence Bureau. If something really goes wrong, how could Wei Liangbi possibly allow it!

In his conversations with Liang Deyou, Wei Liangbi made no secret of his intention to protect his junior brother, fearing that Liang Deyou might be naive and cause an accident to Ning Zhiheng. He would then have no way to explain himself to his teacher!

Therefore, Liang Deyou had long ago decided that he must take Ning Zhiheng with him when he took action, and keep an eye on him to ensure his safety to the greatest extent possible.

The operation went smoothly. The team members rushed into the room, and the people inside were subdued before they could even react.

"Bang, bang, bang!" Suddenly, several gunshots rang out, followed by several low, hoarse cries of pain. It was clear that some members of the operation had been shot and wounded. Everyone still in the courtyard was startled.

"There are still people inside!" came the voice of an action team member from inside the house. At the same time, the team members returned fire, and gunfire erupted.

What's going on? The intelligence said Fu Cheng lives alone, so how could he have accomplices?

Liang Deyou shouted, "What's going on inside?"

A team member shouted from inside the room, "Captain, there are still accomplices in the bedroom. We've injured a few brothers, but we also shot him, and he can't move!"

Liang Deyou felt a little relieved. Although there had been an accident and several team members had been injured, it was all over in the end, and he could explain things back home.

Just as he was pondering this, two loud explosions rang out inside the room. They were all well-trained soldiers, and everyone reacted quickly, immediately dropping to the ground.

The violent shockwave shattered the windows, and the flying shards scratched the hands and faces of many people in the yard. The explosion also shattered the doors in two, causing them to crash to the ground.

Ning Zhiheng also quickly lay down after hearing the explosion. It was the sound of an American-made hand grenade, which had been used in live ammunition at the military academy. These grenades were small in size but incredibly powerful.

Oh no! With such a massive explosion, the team members inside must have suffered heavy casualties. The situation has changed beyond recognition.

After a moment, everyone recovered from the sudden explosion. Liang Deyou's usual calm expression was gone; the mission had undoubtedly failed, and by a huge margin. Even if the target, Fu Cheng, hadn't escaped, his chances of survival were slim.

Not to mention his own team members; even if he were ruthless, he still had some compassion for his men. Losing several at once had already made him lose his composure.
