Chapter Forty-Five: Interrogation of the Puppet

The two acted immediately, heading straight to the interrogation department. On duty was Jiang Wende, the team leader of the interrogation department, who was handling this case and responsible for guarding Huang Xiansheng.

Upon hearing that Wei Liangbi and his companion wanted to interrogate Huang Xiansheng, he said with some difficulty, "It's not that I'm deliberately making things difficult, but Chief Qian of the Intelligence Section said that no one is allowed to interrogate Huang Xiansheng without his permission."

Wei Liangbi didn't take these prison guards seriously and sneered, "Don't you know that this case was solved jointly by our Action Section and Intelligence Section? We were the ones who arrested him first. What right does Qian Zhong have to prevent our Action Section from interrogating him?"

Moreover, the case has taken a new turn; Huang Xiansheng has concealed significant details. We must get to the bottom of this. If you insist on obstructing us now, can you bear the serious consequences?

"No, no! I was just a messenger, Team Leader Wei, don't try to pin this on me!" Jiang Wende quickly waved his hand and said.

He knew, of course, that the case was initially handled by the Operations Section, but was later transferred to the Intelligence Section.

Besides, to put it bluntly, these people were just prison guards, and he didn't want to get involved in the mess between the action section and the intelligence section.

Seeing Wei Liangbi's displeasure, he really couldn't take it anymore. Every one of these Whampoa Military Academy graduates had a stronger backing than him. If they really clashed, he would definitely be the one to suffer.

He quickly added, "Team Leader Wei, I'm just doing my job. I'll take you there right away."

After saying this, he got up and led Wei Liangbi and Ning Zhiheng to the cell where Huang Xiansheng was imprisoned.

As he left, he subtly winked at the clerk beside him. This man was shrewd and quickly understood his meaning.

The moment Wei Liangbi and his team stepped out the door, he immediately picked up the phone: "Intelligence Section? I'm looking for Team Leader Qian!"

The two men quickly arrived at the cell and opened the door. They saw Huang Xiansheng lying on the bed.

At this moment, Huang Xiansheng was already in a semi-conscious state. His whole body was wrapped in gauze, his face was flushed, his chapped lips were frothing at the corners, and he was muttering something incoherently.

Hearing someone come in, he opened his eyes with difficulty. His pupils, which were already slightly dilated, moved twice before closing weakly again.

Ning Zhiheng could tell that Huang Xiansheng was on the verge of death, his consciousness was gradually fading, and a faint stench was emanating from his body. Judging from the current situation, he wouldn't last much longer.

"Officer Huang, can you hear me now?" Ning Zhiheng walked to the bedside and asked, leaning close to his ear.

Huang Xiansheng still had a sliver of consciousness left. He opened his eyes with difficulty, and his chapped lips moved slightly.

"Officer Huang, you are aware of the current situation. You concealed information in your confession. Tell me, did you also recruit subordinates?"

Did you know? A suspicious person has been spotted at your residence. This person knows your address, so they must be someone you know.

If you tell us the whole story honestly, we might still be able to save your life.

Ning Zhiheng carefully observed the changes in his eyes. When asked the question, Huang Xiansheng seemed to have a secret pricked, revealing a hint of surprise and wariness. But his consciousness quickly began to fade, and he returned to a near-death state.

Something's wrong! Ning Zhiheng's nerves immediately tensed up, and he actually managed to bluff out a slight flaw!

As Huang Xiansheng's will to resist gradually waned, he could no longer conceal his true emotions in subtle ways, and eventually revealed his weakness.

He must have recruited others! This hidden mole must be found. Now, Ning Zhiheng's task is to keep asking questions about this, forcing Huang Xiansheng to think about it.

This way, he would have the greatest chance of revealing his memories about this issue before he dies. Ning Zhiheng could then intercept this secret and find this so-called downstream contact.

He did this in order to ensure that the memories he received would be as helpful as possible to him!

This was also an experiment. Ning Zhiheng had already secretly considered this possibility when he first intercepted Yanagida Yuki's memories.

He felt that doing so would allow him to extract as much useful information as possible from his limited memory.

After repeating the same question several times, Ning Zhiheng continued, "Staff Officer Huang, I need to confirm your true identity. As far as we know, you've been hiding your true identity. Are you Japanese or Chinese?"

Did you know? We've already gone to Shandong to pick up your mother and brother. They'll be coming soon to identify you in person. Then we'll compare your blood types to confirm your true identity.

The truth will out, and falsehood will never become truth. No one can cover things up perfectly. I think you'd better tell the truth.

In fact, Ning Zhiheng had always had doubts about Huang Xiansheng's true identity. He did not believe that a teenager could completely change his worldview and sense of right and wrong after a few years of brainwashing.

Moreover, the idea that a traitor, without any religious faith, could endure over a decade of hardship in the army, remaining loyal to his organization and serving the command of a Japanese foreigner, seemed unrealistic and somewhat presumptuous to him.

Humans are born with seven emotions and six desires, including love, hate, greed, and anger. Especially in this chaotic world, humanity and greed are put to the test. How could a traitor possibly have such perseverance?

Sure enough, this question also brought a flash of surprise and fear to Huang Xianxian's eyes!

He clearly hadn't expected that, despite his best efforts to conceal and hide it, his secret would still be exposed and unearthed by his young adversary.
