Chapter Thirty: Preparing for the Interrogation

Some things still require the leadership to step in and coordinate; I am of low rank and have little influence, so I cannot handle the situation!

Unexpectedly, Wei Liangbi dismissed the matter, saying, "You don't need to worry about this. What kind of unit are we? The Military Intelligence Investigation Department!"

It's a military intelligence department that reports directly to the leader. Its job is to catch corrupt elements within the military!

I will report this to the section chief immediately. We will follow the proper procedures to notify the military. Don't worry, this is our job. No one will dare to say anything!

"Don't even mention a major; even a colonel, if he falls into the hands of our military intelligence department, we'll interrogate him however we see fit, without any hesitation!"

Ning Zhiheng was secretly astonished upon hearing this. Wei Liangbi spoke with such confidence, clearly indicating he had done this kind of thing many times before.

The arrogance of the military intelligence department is evident.

"What if, what if we can't find any evidence?" Ning Zhiheng asked tentatively, sounding somewhat guilty.

Wei Liangbi glared at him: "Womanly compassion! If there's no evidence, find it. As for how to find it, that's up to us. There must be a reason for arresting him. How could our military intelligence department arrest the wrong person?"

The implication was crystal clear! Damn, the real ruthless character is here! Ning Zhiheng rolled his eyes inwardly; this was exactly what he and Wang Shucheng had said. Sure enough, anyone sitting in this position was no pushover.

"I want to search Huang Xiansheng's office. And his detailed file. What procedures are required?" Ning Zhiheng hadn't found anything at his residence, so he focused his attention on Huang Xiansheng's office.

Detailed archival materials are only available to the military.

"I'll handle this. There's no time to lose; send people to search now. I think we should send Shi Hong. He needs to contribute something and share the workload. Otherwise, it won't look good after the case is over," Wei Liangbi decided.

Shi Hong was, after all, Wei Liangbi's man. He would definitely get a share of the credit later. Letting him do more now would give him a reason to share the spoils later. It's clear that Wei Liangbi still cared for Shi Hong.

"How do you plan to interrogate Huang Xiansheng? According to procedure, he should be handed over to the interrogation department. Important criminals must be detained by the interrogation department. That's the rule! Besides, they have all the necessary equipment there, and it's convenient to keep an eye on him," Wei Liangbi said.

“Last time we interrogated Fu Cheng, we used excessive force and it all ended in disaster. This time, I'll lead the interrogation and supervise them to make sure they don't cause any trouble,” Ning Zhiheng nodded and said.

The interrogation section of the military intelligence department has two functions: one is to cooperate with the intelligence section or the operations section to interrogate arrested criminals.

Another important function was to detain important and serious criminals. The basement was heavily guarded with multiple layers of security, making it impossible for anyone to escape.

During interrogations, officers from the intelligence or operations sections led the proceedings, with the intelligence officers making up the majority. After all, they were the ones who captured the people, and they knew the specifics best.

The torture was carried out by personnel from a specialized interrogation department.

Sometimes, problems arise in the coordination between these departments. Just like in the Fu Cheng case, Huang Taoguang of the intelligence section failed to supervise effectively, resulting in excessive torture by the interrogation department, leading to his death. After the incident, both sides were held responsible and received reprimands from their superiors.

Ning Zhiheng decided to supervise the entire interrogation process, fearing that the interrogation department might use excessive force, leading to Huang Xiansheng's death. He had to remain on site to ensure he could extract Huang Xiansheng's last memories at any time.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door, and Wei Liangbi called out, "Come in!"

It was Shi Hong who rushed in; he had been staking out Beihua Street. He hadn't gone home at all last night, prepared for a protracted battle.

But just one day later, I received a notification that the criminal had been apprehended. I couldn't help but feel a pang of regret.

They initially thought Ning Zhiheng and his team were searching for a needle in a haystack, and it would take at least ten days to half a month to identify the suspect. They believed that waiting patiently would give them the best chance of catching the suspect.

Unexpectedly, just one day later, Ning Zhiheng had already led his team to arrest the man. All their efforts had been in vain.

There was a sense of disappointment, but I knew I had to be actively involved in this case and demonstrate my value.

Otherwise, when it comes time to write the report, if you haven't accomplished anything, it will be difficult to put pen to paper.

"Shi Hong, there's something urgent that requires your immediate attention. Go to the 2nd Regiment of the 11th Division right away, find Huang Xiansheng's office, and bring back all his belongings. Don't delay, in case someone gets wind of it and moves the items. Then go and retrieve his officer's file. Don't get the order wrong; search first, then take the file. I will report to the section chief and notify them to cooperate with you through proper procedures," Wei Liangbi ordered.

Shi Hong's spirits lifted. Now he was not afraid of doing things, but he was afraid of doing too little. He immediately accepted the order and left!
