The interrogation was conducted immediately, and Ning Zhiheng took Huang Xiansheng and the other man to the interrogation department for handover without delay.
After the formalities were completed, Huang Hui was placed in a separate cell. Ning Zhiheng specifically instructed that the interrogation department could not conduct the interrogation without the action team's intervention.
This can be considered special treatment, and it's the best Ning Zhiheng can do. He can only be released after the case is over.
As for Huang Xiansheng, Ning Zhiheng decided to treat him well, using all sorts of torture instruments, since he wasn't afraid of exhausting him.
They brought the man into the interrogation room. Ning Zhiheng had been here once before; it was terrifying and eerie, with a bloody smell permeating the air.
Shortly after, the interrogation team arrived. There were two burly interrogators and two lieutenants.
"Jiang Wende!"
"Zhang Ping!"
"Ning Zhiheng!"
After a brief handover between the three, Ning Zhiheng handed over the file folder he was holding.
Jiang Wende, a middle-aged military officer in his early forties, had some prematurely gray hair and looked older than his actual age. He seemed listless.
Zhang Ping, in his thirties, was a burly man with a fierce and ruthless demeanor.
But for some reason, Ning Zhiheng, with his keen senses, could clearly feel the strong smell of blood emanating from Jiang Wende. From Zhang Ping's respectful attitude towards him, he knew that the two of them were led by Jiang Wende.
"Captain Ning looks unfamiliar. I wonder what case this is about?" Jiang Wende asked. He clearly knew something about Ning Zhiheng before coming.
He took the file folder from Ning Zhiheng, placed it on the table without even glancing at it, his expression indifferent. The Military Intelligence Department handled only major cases; he'd seen so many that he'd become somewhat numb to them.
"Japanese spies!" Ning Zhiheng stated bluntly. Before he arrived, Wei Liangbi had instructed that the interrogation team members were all transferred from the military.
These people were unruly and looked down on the Whampoa Military Academy graduates, always considering themselves to be senior and experienced.
They felt that these graduates of the Whampoa Military Academy relied on being favored by the emperor to rise through the ranks at a rapid pace, climbing above them at a young age.
He always felt unbalanced, and inevitably became sarcastic and unpleasant when handling cases.
Ning Zhiheng knew that these people were just doing dirty work, and no one with connections or influence would send them here.
"Heh, Japanese spies! They arrest one person and call them a Japanese spy, arrest two and call them Japanese spies too. How many have they arrested this year? Is there even one that's real?" Zhang Ping sneered from the side.
"We'll find out once we investigate! I'll just stand here and see what you two are capable of, so don't let me down!" Ning Zhiheng retorted coldly, seeing Zhang Ping's hostile attitude and not one to tolerate his behavior.
Zhang Ping was speechless after being choked by a single sentence. He was a rough man and verbal sparring was his weakness. Usually, he could intimidate people just by showing his fierce face. He never expected that this young man in front of him would not take him seriously.
"Alright, let's get down to business! Captain Ning, this is the man." Jiang Wende glared at Zhang Ping, pointed at Huang Xiansheng, who was handcuffed to the interrogation chair, eyes closed and silent, and turned to Ning Zhiheng to ask.
"Is he a soldier?" Jiang Wende frowned as he looked at Huang Xiansheng's posture.
“Yes, he’s an active-duty soldier, a major staff officer. He’s suspected of being a Japanese spy, and he’s very dangerous. One of our brothers was injured when we arrested him,” Ning Zhiheng explained.
Jiang Wende gestured to Ning Zhiheng, who knew this meant he was to speak first. This was the first step in the interrogation process.
“Huang Xiansheng, let me introduce myself first. I am Ning Zhiheng, the action captain of the Military Intelligence Department. I believe you understand why you have been brought here. Confess everything to avoid further physical punishment.” Ning Zhiheng slowly walked up to Huang Xiansheng with his hands behind his back and began to speak.
Huang Xiansheng slowly opened his eyes and looked at Ning Zhiheng. As for how to resist torture, he had received special training.
He had already prepared himself mentally from the moment he went into hiding. The only question is whether he can weather the storm when the time comes.
"I don't know why you arrested me. I don't understand what you're saying! But you should know my identity. I am a soldier of the Party and the State, a major operations staff officer of the 2nd Regiment of the 11th Division of the Central Army. You have no right to arrest active-duty soldiers without authorization. Can you bear the consequences?" Huang Xiansheng said angrily.
He has no idea where the problem lies or where the loophole is.
Everything was peaceful and normal until he was suddenly captured on his way home. Only now did he realize that the people who captured him were the notorious military intelligence agency.
As a mid-level military officer, he knew exactly what kind of unit the military intelligence department was. His heart sank lower and lower; all hope was lost! He knew he couldn't possibly get out alive, unless...
He dared not think about the following things, nor did he want to think about them!
"See, I knew it would be like this. People always hold onto a sliver of hope until they're facing death." Ning Zhiheng spread his hands and said helplessly, "Captain Jiang, it's all yours now!"
Huang Xiansheng's reaction was exactly what he expected; it was just a routine inquiry. He was too lazy to waste his breath! He could just hand it over to the interrogation department for torture!
As long as he stayed by Huang Xiansheng's side and never left his side, he was confident that he could pry out Huang Xiansheng's secrets from his mind.
Seeing Ning Zhiheng's swift and decisive attempt to shift the blame, Jiang Wende and his men didn't waste any words. They turned around and shouted at their two burly subordinates, "What are you all standing there for? Get your act together, or people will laugh at you."
With that, he waved his hand, and two burly men stepped forward and dragged Huang Xiansheng up from his chair. They dragged him a few steps back and tied him to a large cross. His hands and feet were handcuffed.
