Chapter Thirty-One: A Brief Clash

Huang Xiansheng's outer garment had been removed during his arrest, leaving him only in a white shirt underneath. Two wounds on his left shoulder were still bleeding.

"I was injured during the arrest, but it's nothing serious, the bleeding will stop soon," Ning Zhiheng explained the origin of the wound, then stepped forward and tore open his shirt to reveal the injury.

He took two more steps to the red-hot charcoal brazier, carefully reached in and took out the red-hot branding iron. He slowly walked up to Huang Xiansheng and suddenly pressed it onto the wound on his left shoulder.

The stench of charred skin immediately filled the air, and a plume of white smoke rose from it.

"Aaaaah!" Huang Xiansheng screamed in agony. The sudden, intense pain caused his body to convulse violently.

"Alright, high temperatures help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation. Serious illnesses require strong medicine. Staff Officer Huang, that's all I can do to help you!" Ning Zhiheng said with a smile and a kind expression.

Everyone in the interrogation room had a visor contraction. Although Jiang Wende and Zhang Ping were used to this scene, what surprised them was Ning Zhiheng's calm and composed demeanor.

Looking at the still somewhat youthful-looking team leader, everyone put away their contempt.

"With Captain Ning's excellent example, let's not hold back and use all our methods!" Jiang Wende said with a gloomy face.

Having lived two lives, Ning Zhiheng had never witnessed a real interrogation or torture firsthand. When he experienced it firsthand, he realized that the shock it brought him far exceeded his expectations.

But with immense willpower, he controlled his facial expression; he couldn't give anyone the impression of weakness. Neither Huang Xiansheng nor anyone else! He had to maintain a strong presence, to intimidate them!

The barbed leather whip, soaked in salt water, tore away a piece of flesh with each lash, and the screams of pain were incessant.

The long bamboo skewer was driven deep into the spaces between the fingers, prying each fingernail off. Then came the toes! At this point, only low, hoarse screams could be heard!

After two hours of continuous torture, Ning Zhiheng felt it was enough. He signaled to stop and returned to Huang Xiansheng.

At this moment, Huang Xiansheng's face was convulsing and trembling due to the intense pain, his hands and feet were covered with bamboo skewers, and his body was covered in blood.

"Tsk tsk tsk, Staff Officer Huang, why bother! It was bound to happen sooner or later, why make it like this!" Ning Zhiheng said with feigned regret. "Just tell me, why did you rent room 402 on Beihua Street? What's the meaning of that rose bush by the window? Where is the dead letter box for transmitting intelligence? How were instructions received? What radio channel was used? What time? What's the codebook...?"

"I don't know what you're talking about!" Huang Xiansheng replied in a hoarse voice before Ning Zhiheng could finish his question.

My God! So that's where the loophole was! Huang Xiansheng was filled with shock and disbelief. 402 Beihua Street! The roses in the window!

These creatures with their keen sense of smell had already extended their reach so close to him, yet he remained completely unaware.

The signal transmission point had already been exposed, which suggests that it had been heavily fortified with numerous traps and guns pointed at it.

It's fair to say that even if they don't arrest him, it won't be long before he walks right into their trap.

What to do? My capture will definitely threaten the safety of the windmills and radio stations.

We were careless! So careless! How terrible! Has the long-term peaceful and comfortable life eroded our once keen sense of smell? Or have the claws and teeth of these Chinese hunting dogs become so sharp?

At this time, Huang Xiansheng had no idea that Yanagida Yukiki, the most important figure in the organization and a messenger pigeon, had already been captured and killed before him.

And it was because of Ning Zhiheng, the action team leader in front of him, that he was exposed.

"Alright! What a pity! We could have been friends! But you rejected my outstretched hand of friendship! But it's okay, you still have a chance." Ning Zhiheng said no more.

Huang Xiansheng is a seasoned spy; he won't give in so easily. But he has plenty of time to play along with him.

“Let’s continue! Captain Jiang, it looks like we’ll have to make up for your dinner time!” Ning Zhiheng said to Jiang Wende.

Jiang Wende remained silent, his face cold, and signaled Zhang Ping to begin the torture again.

Next came the fiery red iron, branding the flesh and skin, followed by scalding hot water poured onto the wounds that covered the body.

Then the soldering iron! Boiling water! Repeat once! Twice!

Soon Huang Xiansheng was unable to utter a sound!

His lips twitched, his whole body was hanging on the cross, his body was shaking violently, his vision was blurry, and his blood felt like it was about to explode from the pain.

He prided himself on being a warrior of unwavering will, and before the trial, he believed that no pain in the world could break him. But now, his confidence was beginning to waver!
