Chapter Twenty-Seven: Catching the Mole

Ning Zhiheng waved for everyone to be quiet, and then had Zhao Jiang take Huang Hui aside so he could question him personally!

Huang Hui was completely paralyzed with fear at this point, but he still didn't utter a word and refused to explain what had happened.

Seeing his stubbornness, Ning Zhiheng didn't waste any words. He pulled out a pistol and pointed it at his head: "I don't have the patience to talk nonsense with you. I'll count to ten, and if you still refuse to confess, I'll shoot!"

After saying that, he started counting: "One, two, three~"

Huang Hui initially kept his head down and remained silent, but his trembling hands and pale lips were enough to show the fear in his heart.

"Eight, nine~" When Ning Zhiheng counted to nine, he released the safety of the Browning pistol with his thumb. The crisp click of the mechanism finally made Huang Hui completely break down!

"I'll talk!"

He did not continue to hide it and quickly explained the truth.

It turns out that Huang Hui is a local, but he lost both his parents when he was young and was left with a house to live in, where he lived a very difficult life.

Four years ago, a man bought a house next to his and became his neighbor. The man's name was Huang Xiansheng.

Huang Xiansheng was in his thirties and a soldier. He saw Huang Rong, a sixteen or seventeen-year-old boy, struggling to make ends meet and living a hard life.

He often provided financial assistance to him, and later, because they shared the same surname, he even recognized him as his nephew, and the two addressed each other as uncle and nephew.

With Huang Xiansheng's help, Huang Hui's life improved, and he even learned to make desserts and got a job at Shunxinzhai. Therefore, he was very grateful to Huang Xiansheng.

When he saw the sketch, he immediately recognized the person in the photo as his uncle, Huang Xiansheng.

Huang Xiansheng loved sweets, so he often brought some pastries home. However, he rarely bought pastries from bakeries. This was precisely why Ning Zhiheng hadn't recognized him despite checking so many bakeries.

Despite Chief Inspector Cui's warning that harboring a suspect would be treated as an accomplice, he suppressed his fear and refused to betray Huang Xiansheng.

"Huang Xiansheng is a soldier. Which unit does he serve in?" Ning Zhiheng asked.

"The operations staff officer of the 2nd Regiment of the 11th Division."

"Military rank?"

"Major."

Do you have family?

No, I've always been single.

"Huang Xiansheng's address?"

No. 32 Zhangma Lane.

Are you home at noon?

"I usually go home for lunch, but I only eat lunch at the military base when I'm busy with work, and then I go home in the evening."

Under Ning Zhiheng's persistent questioning, Huang Hui completely gave up resisting and told him everything.

After recording Huang Hui's statement, Ning Zhiheng called the shopkeeper over and asked, "Does the shop have a telephone?"

The shopkeeper, feeling extremely uneasy, quickly replied, "Yes, yes, it's specially installed for regular customers who order pastries."

Small shops usually can't afford to install telephone lines, as it's a significant expense. However, Shunxinzhai's business is very good, so they're willing to spend the money.

"Alright, cease operations now. All shop staff are strictly prohibited from leaving and are not allowed to have any contact with the outside world. Phone calls can only be received, not made. Don't worry, you'll be able to go home soon," Ning Zhiheng instructed.

The shopkeeper dared not refuse and repeatedly agreed, but inwardly he was groaning, wondering when these fierce-looking men would finally release the people.

Ning Zhiheng called Wang Shucheng, who was still checking files at the police station, and they found Huang Xiansheng's household registration card.

With the specific address provided by Huang Hui, the search became much faster.

Huang Xiansheng is an active-duty soldier, and his file should be registered with the military. However, since he bought property in Nanjing, it should also be recorded in the local household registration file.

After Wang Shucheng found the file, he led the team to Shunxinzhai to assemble. At the same time, he arranged for the action team members to drive to Beihua Street to pick up Liu Molin.

Soon, Wang Shucheng arrived with his team members and the files. After waiting a while, Liu Molin was also brought over.

Liu Molin looked helpless; he hadn't expected the trouble to come back to him. However, the team members didn't explain anything to him, simply taking their men and leaving with a firm attitude, leaving him speechless.

He relaxed a bit after seeing Ning Zhiheng, since he got along well with Ning Zhiheng and knew that he had a gentle personality and was very kind to people.

Seeing his trembling appearance, Ning Zhiheng knew that the team members were not very polite to him.

He quickly said in a friendly tone, "Mr. Liu, I'm very sorry. I asked you to come here because of Wang Yunfeng's matter. I just want you to recognize him from a distance; it won't do you any harm."

After saying that, he glared at the team member and explained, "My men acted rashly, and I didn't give them proper instructions. I'm sorry you were frightened!"

Ning Zhiheng is usually very polite to people and tries his best not to offend anyone with his words; this is his way of doing things.

Moreover, he had a good impression of Liu Molin, and they got along quite well.

Seeing Ning Zhiheng's amiable attitude, Liu Molin felt relieved and repeatedly said it was alright.

Handing Huang Xiansheng's file to Liu Molin, Liu Molin examined the photo on the household registration card for a long time before saying, "The photo looks very similar, but I can't be sure until I see the real person!"

The information in the household registration file is simple, and the photo is just a simple black and white photo of the shoulders and above. I really can't guarantee that it's 100% accurate.

Other factors such as height, demeanor, and movements are also important confirmatory evidence.

For more detailed archival information, one can only consult the military.

Although the Military Intelligence Service also has the right to access the files of active-duty military personnel, it must report and go through procedures before it can do so.

Ning Zhiheng didn't want to go through all that trouble right now, because his first priority was to confirm whether Huang Xiansheng was the tenant of No. 402 Beihua Street.

Without solid evidence, it's not appropriate to report it.

Once Liu Molin confirms the information, then there will be no problem with reporting, arresting, or using torture to extract confessions!
